This transpires 200 years before she glimpses herself.

Buttercup tried to evoke her best friend, the Countess Scarlozsse. Scarlozsse had been a dazzling woman, she recalled. An exalted sorceress, she had protected the world from the Dark wizards and witches. When finally she had vanquished them, she created seven Amulets. She then… (A/N: I am switching to 1st person P.O.V.)

I was called from my sword-practice to her castle. She looked upon me and said, "Lady Buttercup, I have prophesied that a horrendous malevolence will, on the next millennium, arise and torture the world. I have created seven Amulets to combat it. However, the other youths to wield them will not be born before I depart this life. I am dying and desire to let you live, keep your youthfulness and vivacity evermore. I will cast an enchantment on you to make you an immortal, so you may defend the Amulets and wield one alongside the other youths. You will guard the Amulets until the first youth to truthfully answer one of your enigmas comes.

"She will bring with her the other five youths. When at last you have conquered the malevolence, you will become thirteen again, and live, as a normal child will in those times."

She then began the ritual.

Initially, I felt afraid but slowly I began to understand. But as I gazed into the ethereal sea green blaze, I gradually fell dead to the world.

When I awoke, I was clothed in an emerald mantle, and a jade robe. I was sprawled in front of a shrine. I realized that this was the sanctuary that I was intended to defend. She had given me my blade, javelin, bow and arrows, axe, staff, hammer, nun-chucks, dart-blower, chained mace, trident, slingshot, dagger, scimitar, boomerang, ninja stars, novas, whip, dark novas, supernovas, ultra novas, and gauntlets, along with my shield, armor and curative potions.

I knew that Countess Scarlozsse wished for me to persist with my training, and moreover to create riddles for questing youths to decipher. I set to work with my scimitar, knowing that since I did not need food and drink but could call for it whenever I chose, I would not have much else to do.
