Kender Affliction

There was once a time long ago,

When kender would not pocket, an elven spoon

Nor pick the lock to others' homes,

Or cause any mischief.

Once kender were then virtuous,

Like clerics of Paladine they were,

Aiding with no avail in themselves,

Nor any taunts of 'moo' to an angry minotaur,

Until one fated day,

Ah! That cursed day,

That horrible day,

The day of the fates,

That led them to that door.

When the moon was up, the Dark Queen came,

Whispering words of promises of glory and power

And in her radiance she seduced the kender,

To her own as machines, the kender were.

Shocked to their being,

The kender sank to their knees in worship,

To the one god of evil, they cheered,

And donning robes of blackest velvet,

They performed the rites of unholy evil.

The gods of good foresaw this,

They planned to put a stop to this monstrosity,

But the damage was already done,

For thievery and evil was part of their life,

Which left the gods one choice.

They would change the minds of the kender,

So they would only believe that they were doing right,

That they were innocent as children stealing candy,

But the evil minds of the subverted kender lingered.

Only after the Chaos War, this was,

That the true kender broke free,

And the great dragon Malys broke the kenders' chain,

That bonds their true selves after the burning of Kendermore,

To be known as affliction to kender.
