A.N.: Yes, I am quite aware that some characters, like Eagle, died. But this is MY fic, damnit! So there!

Hikaru looked down at her daughter, who was barely two years old, and sleeping in her arms. She couldn't help but smile as she brushed back some obsidian black hair to the side of her child's forehead, careful so as not to wake her up. She was a healthy child, although naturally pale, and she had eyes that were deep amethyst purple. She was clearly the image of her father, Lantis.
Hikaru smiled sadly at the memory of her husband, still alive in Cephiro, the magical land she'd brought hell to once, and saved the next. There she'd met Lantis, the son of the High Priest Zagato, who she'd helped to kill the first time she and her friend Umi and Fuu had been summoned. Somehow, in the strange mixes of war, hatred, and guilt, they had fallen in love. Umi and Fuu had fallen in love as well while they were in the strange and magical land. Umi with the master mage magician, Clef, and Fuu with the prince of Cephiro, Ferio.
Then, once they'd grown up and gotten out of collage, they went back. They went back to Cephiro, the land of magic and wonders. The land where the loves of their life lived. They'd traveled back and forth, through the two worlds together, keeping up with their lives in both places. Finally, they confessed to their families the magic of Cephiro, the secret they'd kept hidden since the 8th grade. Their parents were shocked, but they understood when they revealed that they were going to live in Cephiro, and wouldn't be visiting as often. It was a group decision. They couldn't travel through two worlds forever. They had to stay put somewhere, and none of them could see Clef, Lantis, and Ferio in their world. It would be a disaster.
They were wed, and had their children. Hikaru with a girl, Umi with twins, a boy and a girl, and Fuu with one boy. They all resigned in the Grand Palace in Cephiro, but one day something happened that changed Hikaru's life forever. Lantis was Captain of the Special Guards, under Ferio's command, and one of his jobs was to hunt down and destroy monsters if they ever appeared. That job had led to Hikaru's love's death. Hikaru resigned her position as Diplomat of the People at the palace, and with her daughter, returned to the Earth. Staying in the palace, in the world, where everything reminded her of her lost love was too much for her heart to bear.
Even a heart strong enough to become a Pillar could be shattered when it came to love.
Looking down on her child, her little girl, her beloved Koiku (1), her little Memory. She forced herself to hold back tears, and turned to put her daughter in her crib for the night.
'No use bringing up sad memories now. I have a lifetime to give our child. And I want it to be the happiest life possible.'
As Hikaru put her little girl to bed that night, she had no clue as to just how unhappy that same girl's life would be.

(1) Koiku: Japanese word for 'memory'
Okay, please don't bitch because this is so short, okay?! It's a prologue! They're meant to be short! I promise I'll have the next part up soon.
