The Play of Light and Darkness

Warnings: Shounen-ai implications, Spoilers (episode 48), Hotohori death-fic
Timeline Note: Takes place during "Episode 48: Even At The Risk Of This Life", just before Hotohori died.
A/N: Well, this is new. Usually I just write Nuriko death-fics. But I was reading this episode summary for the episode where Hotohori died, and I thought, what if someone came to get his spirit and bring it back to Mt. Taikyoku (I believe that in one of the OVA's the seishi were all there).. anyway, guess who that seishi would be? Forgive me if I screw anything up. ^_^;;;
"Hotohori-sama??"
He heard that voice, he could see the figure standing just behind Tasuki, shimmering with an other-worldly light.
"Hotohori-sama... it's time now.."
He sounds so sad, Hotohori thought as he lay there, Tasuki and Chichiri on either side of him. They were speaking but he could not understand their words.
"Nuriko..?" He asked the spirit, looking directly at the ghost, who nodded.
Chichiri turned to see the ghost as well, as did Tasuki, but they could not see him.
"Is he seeing the ghost?" Chichiri wondered, and Tasuki nodded.
"That's what I'm betting.. does that mean that he's gonna..." Tasuki trailed off, tears running down his face.
"Hai."
"Hotohori-sama, Tai Yi-Jun sent me to come get you, it's time to go home.. time to start the next step of life... presumably death." Nuriko said, smiling a little and reaching down to touch his hand. "Come on, time's a-wasting, and Tai Yi-Jun is very impatient with me already! She thinks perhaps I'll possess Tasuki-kun and terrorize him.. which now that I think of it isn't such a bad idea.. anou, I need to get you back first, though!"
"Back?"
"To Mt. Taikyoku, Hotohori-sama.. we need to go back to Tai Yi-Jun quick or she won't let me go out again.. it's not fair, though, Chiriko and Mitsukake both get to go out whenever they want and... oh well. Come on, Hotohori-sama, let's go!" He grabbed the emperor's hand and pulled him up-- and out of his body.
There was a momentary pain, and he thought, so this is what death feels like..
He saw Tasuki and Chichiri realize that he was dead, saw the tears on both of their faces, and felt tears trail down his own face.
"Hotohori-sama..? We have to go," Nuriko said, tears shining in his own eyes. "As much as we want to stay, we have to go.."
"Hai," Hotohori said, but neither of them moved.
"Gods," Nuriko said, "I missed you guys so much.. but I've been watching over you, you know.. but still.. still... Gods I missed you all.."
The tears fell from Nuriko's eyes and the spirit crumpled on the ground in grief, sobbing.
Hotohori knelt next to Nuriko and put an arm around him.
"Don't cry, we'll be together again someday, all of us.." He comforted his friend.
"Stop that.." Nuriko shrugged off Hotohori's arm. "I'm not crying because I'm sad, Hotohori-sama.. I'm crying because I'm happy.. I'm happy to see you again.. but I guess I'm also sad that you had to die so soon. I wanted to see you, but I didn't want to be the one to collect you up again, Hotohori-sama! I didn't!"
The seishi finally gave up and clung to Hotohori, burying his face in his shoulder, crying. Hotohori held the other seishi, and neither of them said a thing. Words weren't necessary.
After a long while, Nuriko looked up at Hotohori, his eyes still shining with tears.
"Hotohori-sama... you have no idea how long I've waited.."
