It'd been a long, hard day. No, a long hard week. 2 murder cases, each involving multiple victims and to top it all off, his own apartment was broken in to. However, Gil Grissom wasn't too worried. Instead, he had arranged to go to Catherine's for a night of music, wine and companionship. While he wanted to take it further, Catherine always pushed herself away and this troubled him. He locked his apartment and got into his Tahoe, headed for Cath's. Little did he know that his entire life was about to change.
As he headed for the door, he noticed something was wrong. Something just didn't seem right and it was only when he when to knock on the door and it opened, that his worst fears were confirmed. He cautiously walked in, "Hello?". No-one answered. For some unknown reason, his instincts told him to go to the kitchen. His heart leapt into his throat when he saw Catherine, unconscious on the floor, in a pool of blood. He ran over, "Oh my God", eh said as he dug out his cell phone and called for an ambulance. "Catherine, sweetheart, can you hear me?", he said as he carefully turned her over, and lay her in his lap. She was just breathing and had a pulse so weak he could barely feel it. She was bleeding badly and from what he could tell, had approximately 6 stab wounds to her chest and stomach area. He head was swimming - this all felt like a dream, a horrible night mere. "Cath please, give me a sign here" Her eyelids fluttered and she murmured, "Gil?" Her breath was coming in short, shallow and infrequent gasps. She seemed to have to concentrate before speaking and the words seemed to take effort. "Lindsey - lo...look after her". She coughed as her mouth began to fill in love. She looked him in the eye, "I. I love you". Those last words seemed to cause her pain and she sounded so far away. Gris became more focused, "No, Cath, no". "You can't leave me here. This isn't what's supposed to happen". But her eyes had closed. Suddenly, the paramedics came in and Gil stepped back as they began to work to save her. "BP's 20/10" "Come on people, we're loosing her!". Everything was happening so fast and Gil couldn't think. "Intubate", one paramedic said , as he carefully slid the tube down her throat. "Vitals?" "Barely stable, but enough to go, "let's go!"

Preview for next time: "You have to understand - she's not breathing on her own and the blood loss alone nearly killed her, le alone shock. For now, our main concern is getting through the night"
"She's not going to wake up,is she?" "No, I'm afraid not" "I don't want it to end like this. Turn off the machines"
"Gris, you know that you're not allowed to take this case!" "I don't care - I'm gonna get the bastard who did this"
