I stood there, watching her.  Her hair glowed golden-red in the light of the sun. She was the picture of perfection in her beautiful gown of white silk and lace. My heart leapt in my chest as I saw her radiant, bride-to-be smile. In all the years I'd known her, I'd never seen her glow so much. I sighed, contently, imagining that she was glowing for me, that she was my radiant bride.

Yes, I was simply going to watch the wedding of the girl, no woman I've secretly loved since before I left for the War. I came back, four months ago, to discover that she's engaged, to him.  Why didn't I speak up? Say anything? I can't lose her like this. I won't.

A bridesmaid's head popped through the partially opened door.

"Twenty minutes Gin."  She says, happily.

My heart was slowly, being slit into pieces. I couldn't even act happy anymore. Ginny noticed. The euphoric expression dropped on her face to be replaced with one of concern.

"Are you alright?" She asks quietly. She steps closer, resting a delicate, beautiful hand on my forehead.  "Are you sick?"

Her sweet concern is to much. This is concern for me. Not HIM. There's still hope. I can sweep her off her feet. Carry her away with me.

I press my mouth to hers. Her hand drops from my head to her sides. I'm kissing her. I love her. Everything will be perfect. Except, She's not kissing back. My heart, totally shattered at the realization. I pull back. She backs away.

"Why?" She whispers, numbly. I reach for her. She Cringes away.

"Ginny." I start. Her beautiful face is painted with confusion.

"Why Now? I'm getting married in fifteen minutes!" Her soft, beautiful voice becoming a deadly whisper. "What do you expect to do? Seduce me, and expect me to run away with you?"

"I love you Gin." I blurt out, but I know, now its to late. I don't dare to meet her gaze. I turn to leave, determined not to humiliate myself anymore, by letting her see me cry.

I feel her soft hand on my shoulder. I stand, but do not turn. That damn bridesmaid's back.

"Time to go to the ceremony Gin."  She calls through the door.

"I'll always love you Harry." She says sadly. "Just not the way you want me to."

She left. So much for sweeping her off her feet. I walk the four blocks to the church, but can't inside. I can't watch her get married, to him. I love her too much. Instead I sit outside and wait.

While I wait, I think about what could have been. How this could happen. From the beginning everyone said that we belonged together. Her family hates him. I hate him. So why the hell is she inside that church, willingly becoming his wife, taking his name? It should be me in there, but I was too damn late. He beat me to her. He lived a spoiled, rich life, always going out of his way to flaunt what he had, that no one else did.  Everything I had, everything I wanted, he had to have. Always had to be better than me. So of course he had to have Ginny.

He can't possibly love her more than I do.

Can he?

Seemingly hours later I watch the crowd leave the church, led by the newly wed Draco and Virginia Malfoy.
