At this point in time, the three Bauldelaire orphans were very depressed. Sunny was trapped in a car with evil villains and Klaus and Violet were pretty much just rolling down a hill, leaving fate ahead of them. They now realized how foolish they had been.
"Quick, Violet, think! You must invent something!" Klaus cried, desperately.
"If Madame Lulu was only alive, we would be at the Mortmain Mountains in the Valley of Four Drafts," his sister replied sadly.
"How about we jump out and run after the car?" Klaus asked, pointing out the obvious.
"Good Idea!" Violet exclaimed, completely forgetting any sense whatsoever.
