Title: None, this is a ficlet.
Rating: PG-ish, just because it's too angsty for a G. In my opinion, at least.
Synopsis: After helping Jack escape from Snyder and the Refuge, David learns a painful lesson.
Category: Slash (I refuse to put this as a warning), angst, ficlet
Warnings: It's really short. I don't write well. For those of you who like Jack/David, this is sad.
Feedback: I thrive on the stuff. Constructive criticism welcome. Exclamations of "Eww, that's gross" or the like will result in having your comment picked apart, proved wrong, and put up for public ridicule.
Note: I decided to post this while feeling especially defiant and pissy about the abundance of Mary Sues living in my beloved Newsies world. Plus, the chemistry between Jack and David is strong enough to fuel all of Brooklyn for as long as they keep looking at and touching each other. This is my response to what David must have been feeling when Jack told him to leave during that scene in the alley. I have a feeling this fandom will be hearing more from me in the future: I can't leave m'boys like this.

Newsies Ficlet 1: David P.O.V.
It was real.
He hadn't seen it coming. Not really. Not even after the scene in the courtroom, when he had finally learned the truth about his friend.
It was happening.
But, now, with Jack's hands rough on his shoulders, pushing him away, he saw it all too clearly: Jack had never felt the same way he did. He'd thought, maybe . . . but, no, it seemed he was wrong. And that was a regret felt all the way to his bones.
It hurt.
