Forgiveness

Chapter 1
Captain's log Stardate 23314.2
We had a most surprising addition to the ship today. Riker's daughter, Anelda, who has been residing on earth for the past eleven years, reunited with her father today. We also discovered that Ms. Riker joined the ship because her mother died, so she may not be willing to communicate with us for some time. Riker seems to be taking his wife's death very well, though Troi and I are very worried about him.
*************************************************************** (Earlier that same day)
As Troi and Riker were about to head to their quarters for the night, Troi said,
"I sense you're very upset, Will."
"I've always wondered,", Riker said. "Halt.", he commanded the elevator. He continued. "I've always wondered whether Annie was angry at me for leaving."
"What led you to leave them on earth, Will?"
"Annie's mom and I had a nasty fight one night. She said, 'Starfleet or us.' How could I have been so stupid!"
"Will, what were you planning to do tommorrow?"
"Spend the day with her."
"I don't think that's a good idea."
"Why not?"
"Will, she's very angry. Mostly at herself. I sense some guilt, like she thinks she's responsible for her mother's death. When she touches that anger, it will lash out in all directions, including yours. She's not ready to accept you right now. Let her spend some time with me. Maybe if I get her to release some of that anger, she'll be a little more willing to accept you."
"Okay."
Reluctantly, Riker left to go to his quarters. Alone.
