Prologue
Serena started her long day like she started all her others. She woke at five in the morning to get ready for work. Dr. Serena Hollinger, that was her name, finally. After six long hard years at the best veterinary university in Canada. Now fresh out of school she had landed a job in an emergency veterinary hospital almost instantly. Twenty-six years old, she had done it, she had made her dream, her dream that she had been dreaming since she was five years old come true at last. If only that had made her life complete like it should have.
For you see when Serena woke up at five in the morning to get ready for work, there was supposed to be someone beside her. When she left for work, there was supposed to be someone to kiss good-bye . . . besides her cat I mean. Not just because most people do, because she always had. For Serena didn't have to wait half her life to find her soul mate like most people she found him when she was twelve and briefly lost him for things were not quite right for them to be together yet. Then when she was almost fifth-teen she found him again and decided to never let him go, ever. Are so she thought. She wasn't stupid, not blinded by love like most said she was. She just knew from the very bottom of her heart that it was right for her to be with him. She just knew, that's all.
