A/N: I
realize this has probably been done before, but I had to take a stab at it
myself. I heard the song, the rest is history. The song is The Dance, written
by Tony Arata, and sung by Garth Brooks. Roswell characters belong to JK and MM
and whoever else owns them, which isn't me.
*********
Looking back on the memory of the dance we shared
'neath the stars alone,
For a moment all the world was right,
how could I have known that you'd ever say goodbye.
Alex pulled Isabel close to him. "You look amazing tonight," he
whispered into her ear. "I'm so glad you asked me to the prom."
"Who else would I want to go with," she responded, a smile playing on
her lips. Alex quickly closed the distance, enveloping her mouth with a kiss,
as the world around them faded.
Holding you I held everything, for a moment wasn't
I a king.
But if I'd only known how the king would fall,
hey who's to say, you know I might have chanced it all.
It was a clear night, every star could be seen. Alex and Isabel lay on the
blanket, quietly reminiscing.
"I still have the star-gazing book, you know." Isabel smiled. Alex
propped himself up on one elbow and looked at her.
"I thought you'd like it," he replied. His finger traced a trail down
the side of her face. Isabel shivered in delight as his fingers continued their
caress down her neck. Alex leaned over and trailed soft kisses down the path
his fingers had made. Isabel pulled him closer and their mouths found each
other. They stayed together the rest of the night.
And now I'm glad I didn't know the way it all
would end,
the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance, I could have missed the pain,
but I'd of had to miss the dance.
Isabel sat at the foot of Alex's grave. So much had happened in such a short
time. She sat there and tried to say goodbye, but the words wouldn't come. She
laid her head in hands and sobbed and as she recalled memories of Alex in the
Crashdown, stargazing with him, sneaking into his room to ask him to the prom
the tears flowed freely. The tears helped cleanse the pain Isabel felt, and as
she looked back, she realized that she wouldn't change anything about her time
with Alex, unless it was to spend more of it with him. She wiped the tears away
and stood. She stooped to lay a rose on the grave, and whispered a goodbye.
Yes my life is better left to chance,
I could have missed the pain,
but I'd of had to miss the dance.
