"Here." offered the child holding out a sticky pastry.

Harry Potter's eyes flickered around warily, the offer ringing in his ears. He didn't know where he was... He stood in darkness, a darkness broken by thin strands of light that sloped lazily from the blackened canopy above. The child stood just beyond the boundary of light, his outlined figure ethereal. The boy's clothes were torn, filthy. His hair was a sandy brown mess of mats and tangles. Harry struggled to see his face, but his eyes couldn't pierce through the dim haze.

"Here." the child insisted.

As Harry looked more closely at the gooey pastry his stomach growled. He grew hungry.

Harry reached out eagerly to take the offered food, but his hands fell short. He tried to step forward and snatch it up, but his feet were leaden. Panic crept up Harry's spine as he realized he couldn't move. Feelings of helplessness and frustration overwhelmed him. The child's hand drooped slowly as his shadowed eyes watched Harry struggle in vain.

A . He disappeared as if by magic while the place in which Harry stood melted away.
