The Legacy Lives On

(Or some other crappy & cheesy title like that)

I stood in our bathroom. My light linen nightgown had fallen off a few seconds earlier. I was starring at my stomach, wondering why it was torturing me so. That was the third morning I had woken before Radames to throw up. What was going on?

Suddenly two arms reached around my stomach and I heard Radames whisper in my ear. "I love you," he said. He kissed my neck softly, "What's wrong? Why are you up with the sun?" he asked.

"Nothing," I said, turning and embracing him, hoping that he would lead me back to our bed without seeing the pot. I planned to empty it later before he could see.

"Aida, what's wrong?" he let go of me and walked to the pot, looking down he said, "Are you sick?" I shook my head, I guess in hopes that he would think someone else did it. "Yes you are, I can tell. Why didn't you tell me? When did-" A silent tear slid down his face as he walked to me, picked me up and carried me to our bed.

A few days later the Nubian palace doctors came. They didn't know what was wrong either. Finding this out left Radames and I bewildered. If they didn't know what it was, how would I survive? Radames treated me like I would break if he kissed me too hard.

The funny thing was, I only felt sick in the mornings.

Radames was unable to contain his excitement as he held our sleeping newborn child in his arms.

"Amneris. We will call her Amneris."

He looked up, his eyes smiling and full of love. "It's a beautiful name for a beautiful girl. But why?" His face showed his confusion. He was wondering why I would want to name a child after a women who I had been jealous of such a long time ago.

"Because with out her love for you, we would not live here in this wonderful house on this beautiful island. With out her, this child would not be here. She risked her life for our love, she paid for that but didn't mind because she knew that you would be happy. That we would be together."

His face changed from a look of confusion to one of bewilderment, love and thanks.

He carefully laid Amneris onto her bed, then leaned down and kissed me. "I love you so much." he whispered into my neck then sat down and watched as I fell asleep.
