Meet Joe Black
The two walked down to watch the fireworks. So much was reeling through Susan's mind that she did not even notice the confused stares she was recieving from the man beside her- the man she still thought of as Joe Black. But he was clearly not Joe Black anymore. He had gone away, taken her father and gone away forever. A tear rolled down her cheek. The man turned to face her, concern and confusion evident from his expression. He reached up running his hand through her hair.
"H-He past away just recently, my father." Susan tried to explain. He brought Susan into a comforting hug and he was shocked by how right it felt, to be so close to her.
To. her. He still did not know the name of this beautiful woman in his arms. He pulled away to look at her and asked, "I know this is an inoppurtune question, but I felt a pressing need to know the name of the beautiful woman that is currently gracing me with her presence." His voice danced with humor and she laughed and replied plainly, "Susan." His face lit up with a triumphant smile. He stepped back to shake her hand formally, retaining the grin on his face. "I'm Michael, Michael Hearting." She smiled at this and kept his hand in hers. Turning her glance from him to stare off into space. She closed her eyes, her face stricken with some sort of inner struggle. She looked at him as they started to walk back to the house.
