Chapter 2

The next day Susan woke up to bright rays of sun flooding her room. It was later in the morning, but her excuse was valid. Joe err.. Michael had gone home in the early hours of the night once the party started to wind down. Michael...he was so real. It seemed no one could make her smile as well as he could.

The situation last night had been a bit awkward since Michael still did not truly understand where he was; he accepted the offer of staying in a spare room in the house where the party was held. Susan dressed and found herself smiling at the sight of Michael chatting with her sister on the patio. She grabbed a croissant from the buffet table and joined them.

With a laugh she said, "What have you two found to gossip about?" As she sat down by her sister, she saw that Allison had been crying in the midst of her laughter and guessed that Michael had comforted her mourning heart with humor as he had done for Susan the night before. Susan touched her sister's shoulder and gave her a comforting glance as Quince arrived all smiles as always. Giving Allison a quick peck on the cheek things seemed as though they might be looking up. Susan turned to Michael smiling but was startled to see he was staring at her with seemingly entranced eyes.
