Author's Note:Playing with the idea of the boy Saeko liked but never told her feelings to. Also decided to throw in the American and Japanese Clandestine military aspect supporting their adventures. They won't exactly meet up right away now but they will be close by. The information on military terminology, jargon, etc is accurate as far as I remember, looked up, or asked about.
I do have a prequel plan for them and their adventures on how they survived and obtained their gear throughout the time till their faithful meet-up with HOTD characters.
The story leaves off of the manga where they just left the East Police Station.
A blacked-out Toyota Hilux pickup truck modified with off-road capabilities rolls down the cold rainy streets near a large shopping district. The three passengers, 2 males and 1 female all wore balaclava and ballistic transition sunglasses covering their faces, unable to be identified. All equipped with Ops core helmets equipped with GPNVG-18 fusion night vision goggles and Comtac headsets they were able to keep their eyes peeled on all sides of the streets for 'them' and any other hostile opposition they may face in the city as the sun starts to set for the country of the rising sun. With the EMP blasts disabling their long-range communications with their allies they rely on their discretion to make their next move.
In the back seat, a large man named Ryu continues to stare behind the rear of the truck making sure no one was tailing them through the streets gripping a suppressed HK416 with an EOTech and magnifier. Luckily the gear they 'allocated' were emp shielded by their previous user giving them an extremely large advantage in the night.
"I think we lost them…so what now spook?" Ryu asked, putting down his rifle next to a large duffel bag filled with various weapons and ordnance. Then proceeds to take off his helmet and glasses to wipe off the sweat dripping into his eyes. His short black hair shines brightly from the lighting of the sun setting in the background making the large number of gray hairs mixed in more noticeable. With a large scar on his left eye being exposed after taking off his glasses.
"Can you please stop calling me that? Also, we're currently on our way to East Police Station to see if they still have the articles they confiscated from Maresato-san" Sophie aka 'spook', the woman in the passenger seat said. While messing with a GPS computer that was installed into the dash.
"You sure it's not going to be like last time? Higashi Police Station was a shit show when we found you in it." Kou, the driver said as he continues to drive down the empty wet streets avoiding the debris and obstacles in their way.
"We are more than equipped enough to handle anything now. If you two were able to last this long with the bare minimum I look forward to seeing what you two can do being 'properly' equipped now." Sophie said now checking on her equipment and her suppressed Mp5sd fitted with a flashlight, laser, and Aimpoint patrol red dot.
"Now she appreciates our company", Ryu said, chuckling in the back. Causing everyone in the truck to lightly laugh as well.
As they continue to make their way through the city they finally reach their destination. East Police Station, abandoned with half-eaten corpses and their blood being washed away by the heavy rain. The three disembarked from their vehicle and made their way toward the precinct.
"The storm should be able to mask any noise we make", Ryu said, taking the lead for the group. Slinging his rifle to his side and pulling an MK23 pistol with a suppressor fitted onto it.
"Even so, that doesn't give you permission to go wild just so you know," Sophie said following right behind with her Mp5 at the ready. With Kou following up in the rear with a SR25 with a nightforce scope with a tritium RMR as an offset for close quarters and a peq 15 to use in conjunction with his nods.
"Also Ryu, did you make sure to put your phone on silent this time?" Kou said mockingly.
Ryu with his back turn simply responded with a middle finger. Remembering how they almost got killed when his phone went off unexpectedly while they were sneaking around some zombies.
Kou chuckles after teasing his teammate as they slowly make their way through the parking lot. He watches the blood from the infected get swept away with the water into the sewer systems. "Shouldn't we worry about the water system getting infected?" Kou calling over his radio link to his headset as the other two were way ahead of them and he didn't want to yell out that may attract unwanted attention.
"The virus as far as we know can only be transported through the infected saliva or direct insertion to the bloodstream. Animals seem to be unaffected by the virus which is good for us." Sophie radioing back.
The group enters the police station to find multiple infected to be killed. Upon inspection, many of them seem to be killed by some type of blade as they found large clean lacerations into the body or deep piercing wounds into the head that can be only done with something extremely sharp and long.
"Looks like someone was here ahead of us and they know their way around a blade." Ryu investigating the corpses all around.
"Do you think any survivors got out? Or do you think 'they' beat us to this place?" Sophie asked covering Ryu as he focuses on the multiple corpses in the building.
"I don't-'' Before the masked man could finish his sentence multiple shots rang out in the distance causing them all to jump up with their weapons aiming up.
"Shots sound pretty close to you?" Kou asked, aiming his rifle up the stairs.
"Looks like this will be a quick stop. Kou, upstairs scope out the area and see where those shots are. Sophie on me we're going to clear out the armory and evidence locker."
"Copy!" Both of them said simultaneously.
The group of armed individuals moves out to do their respective objectives. Kou, running upstairs, finds a few stragglers of undead in the building. He quickly drops them while on the move putting precise shots in each of their heads. The rifle, despite being suppressed, rattled the room from its shockwave with the rounds cutting through the air till they hit their prey, ripping away flesh and shattering bone.
While Ryu and Sophie ran through the corridors taking out any infected leftovers in the building quickly and efficiently. Ryu with his size and strength simply throwing most of them out of the way to the side finishing them off with the massive hand cannon in his hand not stopping their momentum as they move while Sophie fires controlled semi-automatic shots in all their heads finishing off any stragglers that may survive from Ryu's melee.
As they were moving Ryu noticed a door labeled as 'Armory' with its lock drilled out and opened. "Shit, someone cleared out the armory already…Well, that sucks." he thought, completely blowing past the door and moving on to their objective.
They eventually found a room labeled as 'Evidence' already opened but that didn't stop them from entering. They found multiple evidence bags once filled with guns, ammo, and other paraphernalia laid out all around the room.
"Ah fuck! Someone beat us here." Ryu said, looking around the room. Where he found an Ithaca 37 with a dead red dot leaning on a table. Picking it up he notices there were still some shells in it as he racks the action and finds a round of buckshot in the chamber. "Well, I always wanted one of these ." Taking off his backpack to strap the shotgun to the side of it.
"Let's look around to see if we find anything useful," Sophie said, rummaging through the evidence boxes on the shelves.
"Copy," Ryu said joining Sophie in her endeavor to find something useful in the evidence locker.
"Kou, we made it to the evidence locker. What's your pause?" Ryu, calls into the radio. While he rummages through the shelves with Sophie. Finding some black powder, ammonium nitrate, and other chemicals that made Ryu very excited. Giving Sophie a nervous look knowing full well of his background and 'specialties' on what he plans to do with that.
"Almost to the roof. I made a small detour to one of the offices and found our next destination." Kou calling back. With some light gunfire in the background.
"Copy. Brief us when we are back in the truck." As he continues to load his bag with various amounts of ammo and material they may find useful later on. Then he noticed a large blade on one of the evidence tables. It was an Odachi, a katana with a longer blade compared to your average blade but was not widely used due to the difficulty to draw from their scabbard and it took a large, powerful man to use them effectively such as Sasaki Kojiro a well-known swordsman who dueled Miyamoto Musashi.
"Hey Kou, guess what I found?" Ryu radioing in. Delighted to share the loot he found with his teammate.
"Tell me later. I found the sources of gunshots coming from civilians and I think you should come up and see what I'm looking at. " Kou said with an eager tone.
Ryu and Sophie looked at each other unsure what their sniper may have found. But Sophie gave him the nod to go ahead as she continues her search through evidence faster than she was before.
"Copy Kou, I'm Oscar Mike."
Up on the roof, Ryu found Kou in the prone aiming his rifle toward the suburb across the highway. Firing off slow and precise shots due to the rain and distance he has to compensate for the ballistics a lot more than usual.
"What do you got for me?" Ryu aiming down his own rifle in the same direction he was, flipping the magnifiers to see a little further.
"A VERY interesting group of survivors," Kou said, reloading his rifle.
Looking down his scope he manages to see 8 individuals surrounded on both sides of the street of a suburb. 2 males, 5 females, and 1 one child with them with multiple firearms and close-range weapons.
The heftier man of the two seems to be very adept with firearms as he sees multiple zombies getting downed by him on his side. While he sees 3 of the females engaging close in quarters with a rifle, sword, and spear on the other side making quick work of the infected horde. While the rest seem to be amateurs or intermediate at best in terms of combat proficiency or noncombatants.
With a nod of approval Ryu was impressed by what he saw. "They ain't bad. Compared to the rest of the civies and thugs we've met so far."
"Well, I think I know one reason why. They are doing so well." Kou eagerly passing his rifle off to Ryu to get a better look at the group.
With the long-range scope Ryu was able to see further compared to the red dot+magnifier combo on his rifle and what he saw was a group mostly composed of teenagers. He noticed the 'kid' with black hair seemed to be the leader as he looks like he was giving out orders to everyone from his gestures. Along with him, he noticed a brown-haired beauty not using her rifle properly as she should be. However, she was still getting some. Using the bayonet on the rifle as some type of spear. But the main person he believes Kou was referring to was the purple-haired swordswoman a little farther from the group cutting away at the undead in such a manner it can be described as an elegant dance of blood and guts.
Watching the girl fight reminded Ryu of a small girl in a kendo gi crying at the dojo he and Kou used to go to when he lived in Japan for a period of his life.
"Is that who I think it is?" Ryu said with enthusiasm.
"I think it is brother. Master is going to owe us one for this."
The static of the radio screamed as it ended the two's conversation. "Guys, I hit the jackpot. Maresato has a lot of info we can use. Now we just need to get a hold of anyone on comms."
"Copy all. We found our own little jackpot." Kou calling over the radio.
"What does that mean?"
"It means we're going to go save some high schoolers," Ryu said, passing the rifle back to Kou.
XXXX
Very short chapter with very little detail and introduction to the characters I know. Will go more in-depth when they finally meet with small glimpses of their past as the story goes on. Let me know if it's good. Mainly if it's bad or ideas you may have.
