"What the-?!" Yukino exclaimed, stopping upon upon feeling something small and wet hit the back of her neck. She quickly rubbed it away. "Don't tell me it's starting to rain!"

It certainly was. The sky had been eaten away by thick dark clouds. They let loose the heavy drops of water they were carrying. Rain began to pour over the neighbourhood, saturating everything in sight.

"Great!" Yukino muttered as she quickly ducked under the shelter of a nearby bus stop. "Looks like I'll have to turn up for school, all smoking wet!"

"Not if I can help it!"

Yukino's eyes widened upon hearing a familiar voice speak to her. She turned around to see that she was not alone in the bus stop shelter. A familiar figure which she recognised all too well was standing beside.

With a look of determination crossing his face, Hachiman took hold of something, holding it above the girl's head.

"What are you doing?!" Yukino exclaimed.

"Making sure you stay dry!" Hachiman answered. "You don't want to be dripping wet while stepping into class."

"But what about you?" Yukino asked, looked over Hachiman to see he had nothing to protect him from the rain.

"Don't worry about me! If we don't get moving now, we'll be late!" Hachiman turned towards the rain hammering down outside the shelter, not afraid of it drenching him in the slightest. "You ready?"

Yukino stared, then nodded. "Ready!"

Together, the teenagers stepped out of the bus stop shelter. The rain pounded down on Hachiman, but was blocked from soaking Yukino by what he was holding above her. The boy kept it in place above the girl's head as they ran side-by-side towards the school.

As she raced alongside the boy protecting her from the cold wet weather, Yukino subtly glanced at him. She could see he was getting very sodden from the rain he was shielding her from. The falling drops of water saturated his hair and uniform, but they could not wash his determined expression. It was clear he didn't care how soaked he became as long as he kept her dry.

Yukino's lips curled into a smile. She had realised she had been wrong to be so icy and distant towards Hachiman. She felt proud to have such a helpful, selfless person join her club.

As the rain continued to fall, the pair reached the school just as the bell for their first class of the day rang. They darted through the puddles which flooded the grounds before disappearing into the buildings to get into the dry warmth inside. Both were grateful to be out of the damp, wet weather as Hachiman pulled away what he had been using to keep Yukino sheltered.

"Well…" The girl gazed gratefully at the boy as they came to a stop outside the classroom. "Thank you. You really saved me back there."

"Don't mention it." Hachiman smiled humbly before placing what he had been using to keep Yukino dry into her hands. "Here's your homework back!"

"Wha-"

Yukino's smile faded. Her jaw dropped upon seeing the damp, cold, wet object in her hands which Hachiman had been holding over her head so that the rain would hit it over her.

It was an open handwriting book. The pages had become all soggy from absorbing the rain. All of the hard work she had penned into it during the night before was now nothing more than large smudges of ink.

"You used my homework to shield me from the rain?!" she cried.

"Of course! I knew when I saw it sticking out of your bag at the bus stop that it would be perfect to keep you dry!" Hachiman was still smiling cheerfully in his ignorance of what he had done. "Better take your seat! That's homework's gonna be marked today!"

Hachiman headed off, not noticing the scowl he was receiving from the girl whose homework he had ruined. To say Yukino was annoyed with him was an understatement. After all the hours of hard work she had put into writing up her homework, it had been ruined within minutes by the dumb rain - and even dumber boy.

"Why did I agree to let that idiot into my club?" Yukino muttered. "Things were so much easier when I was the only member there - before he came along…"

The end.
