Chapter One – Hidden

Seaside Island, also known as Bygone island, was an island on Mobius that features various regions with climates and environments different from one another, such as a region of ice and snow neighbouring a tropical forest. Generations ago on Seaside Island, Badgerville was founded by the evil Jebediah Badger, who eventually got chased out of his village due to his greedy and corrupt ways. Afterwards, the villagers rid their home of any trace of Jebediah. Nowadays, it was Hedgehog Village, the main settlement on Seaside Island, and most of the local residents either live in or around it. The village itself was powered by a source of clean electricity known as the Meroke Crystal.

The village was frequently attacked by Dr. Eggman, who wanted to turn it into his personal amusement park, as the starting point on his road towards global conquest with the help of his robot minions. As such, the village was under the constant threat of certain doom. Every time a danger had surfaced though, Team Sonic had come to save the village. Hedgehog Village was a spacious village surrounded by high stone walls. It consists of several rustic wooden huts with thatched roofs, some of which are located within fenced courtyards with stairs leading up to them. There are also several buildings with tin roofs. The focal point was the Village Centre where most of the public buildings and meeting places are located.

Sonic The Hedgehog was relaxing by his Shack. Nothing and no one seemed to be bothering him today. Described as having rugged good looks, he was a Hedgehog with Blue fur covering most of his body, and peach skin that covers his muzzle, insides of his ears and front torso. He was rather slim, with reasonably long arms and legs, along with visible shoulders, giving him a lanky appearance. He had a fairly round head with six thick quills protruding from the back of his head and small, triangular ears on top of his head. He also had cowlick-like spikes that sticks out from his top and lower head quills, two spines protruding from his back behind his shoulders, and a short tail.

He had green eyes and a fairly long black nose. He also had a visible neck, although it was usually covered. He wore a pair of white gloves with cuffs and a pair of red shoes with white cuffs, grey soles, and a rectangular gold buckle on top. He also had white sports tape wrapped around the palms of his gloves, the heels of his sneakers (to reinforce his shoes) and his lower forearms and legs. Finally, he sports a brown neckerchief. He also occasionally wore his Communicator, built for him by Tails. He heaved, now somewhat bored, and heading to the Shack, wondering of there was any food in there. Usually there was, but whether it was edible, that was another matter.

Sonic's Shack was a round, single-room wooden hut located close to the beach. It had a porch surrounding it, a front entrance without a door and large windows across the walls with wooden blinds. The Shack possesses a round straw roof, with a strong tree (stripped of most branches and leaves) holding the roof centre and smaller pillars holding up the edges, forming a roof over the porch. The Shack had very little furniture, only a hammock, a small TV set, a coffee table, a small stow, two rugs and a ceiling fan. It also contains some more novel items such as a land-line with an answering-machine (in spite of its rather isolated location) and a dartboard fashioned from a turtle shell. Sonic keeps a coconut husk collection here and the Shack itself was far from up to code. Dilapidated, it had been deemed a dangerous and pathetic place to live in. Despite this, Sonic claims his Shack was kept completely spotless. Outside the Shack was a set of beach-chairs and an umbrella. Sonic's Shack lies in a very lovely location, a beach front paradise with a majestic view of the sun setting over the sea. Every wall also had a window, allowing Sonic to see the view wherever he stands.

He found some food. It looked gross, but he ate it anyway and leant on one of this constantly open windows, and stared out onto the beautiful, clear blue ocean. He sighed, but then suddenly the side of his neck began to deeply ache, causing him to instinctively pull his neckerchief more tightly around it. He turned away, panting heavily. This always happened when his mind wondered towards the sea, but he knew he couldn't. He didn't like water anyway, and he just couldn't bare the thought of his friends finding out the truth. Tails, Amy, Knuckles and Sticks. He was so frightened, and scared, that they would reject him, or worse kill him. He heaved, desperate to find something else to do. Suddenly, Tails called, wanting a hand in his workshop. Perfect, time to leave.

Shadow The Hedgehog was grumpy as hell, hating absolutely everyone and everything. He found a small fortress of solitude, a small cleared area in the deep forests of Seaside Island, with a open fronted hut, and was trying to meditate in an attempt to calm his anger. He was a Black-furred Hedgehog. Like Sonic, Shadow was rather slim with relatively long arms and legs and pronounced shoulders that give him a tall and slightly lanky appearance. Unlike Sonic, however, Shadow appears to be more barrel-chested with broad shoulders.

He had red eyes, a small patch of white fur on his chest, a tan-skinned muzzle, and tan-skinned ear canals. He also had six quills on his head, four of which curve upwards while the other two curve downwards, two spines on his back, and a small tail. He had red stripes on each of his head quills, around the edges of his eyes, and on his arms and legs. He also had a single cowlick-like spike that sticks out from underneath each of the top side quills on his head.

Shadow wore white gloves with red backs which have long red and black cuffs with fasteners and golden ring bands around his wrists. His shoes were mainly white and smooth with black heel regions. Above the top-line, each shoe had a long red tongue and black cuff encircled by a single golden ring band. Around the rim of the soles, Shadow's shoes have red strips of metal on the rear and front of the bottom, broken below the in-steps. On the bottom of each sole was also an orange-yellow line of four small jets, three up front and one on the heel.

But right now, he was sat crossed legged, on the floor, trying to calm the high emotions within. His intense aggression. He been duped again by Eggman, and now he wanted revenge. But he realised, taking on the Human, this worked up, wasn't going to help anyone. He needed to calm himself first. He heaved. He hated this island and everything on it, but he'd been forced here, as he was very unwelcome everywhere else. He didn't fancy taking on, yet another, mob with pitch folks and sticks. He been chased off one island to another, like that, and even here, he wasn't particularly welcome either, at least he wasn't ganged up on.

Yes, Sonic and his friends had faced him together, but it wasn't an entire island. Even he, with his incredible powers, couldn't stand up to a crowd that large, not without getting seriously injured. Better to take the hint and leave. He deeply sighed, as his thoughts turned to Sonic. A Blue Hedgehog who could match in speed, and yet there was something very bizarre about him. Never in fifty years, had be met a rival so powerful, but where did he get his abilities from? He was mortal, yes, but mortals aren't just born with superpowers. Only him. Not even his friends. The two girls had nothing, the Fox was just weird with his flying two tails, and the Echidna, well, his almighty strength largely came down to his species, the strongest on Mobius, and his physical size in muscle. Only the Blue Blur's appeared other worldly. Shadow was created in a laboratory, which was where he obtained his gifts, so where did Sonic get his? There had to be some supernatural reason, somewhere.

He was certain the Blue Blur was hiding something, and he had the suspicions that his so-called friends didn't know. But what really got to Shadow was Sonic's scent. He definitely was a Hedgehog, what wasn't up for debate, but he smelled like no Hedgehog he'd ever encountered before. Again, he suspected that only he knew, as his sense of smell being the best on the entire island. He didn't understand, hence his jibe at Sonic being a utter disgrace to Hedgehog-kind, and what was with the intense smell of seaweed on his breathe?

Shadow growled. That stunk, as he got a good lung full of it during their previous battle, and it just wound him up horrendously. But the more the Ultimate Lifeform thought about it, the more he suspected that the ocean had the answers he sought, especially with the aroma of seaweed. Which made no sense, because the the Blue Blur was famous for not liking water. Shadow smirked. Or so he says. Suddenly, the Ultimate Lifeform opens his eyes, and growled, as someone approached him from behind. Their footsteps sounded timid, and the shuffling indicated fear, of which Shadow just lapped up. He smirked. He knew exactly who it was. He turned his head slightly, but didn't bother to stand up and greet his visitor. He scowled.

"What do you want?" He hissed, extremely coldly. The on-comer bowed slightly out of respect, knowing the exact power and the incredibly aggressive anger Shadow was capable of. He heaved, as if he was just finding his confidence to speak to the mighty Black Hedgehog. He gulped.

"I have a proposition for you." He stammered. Shadow growled, quickly getting to his feet, making the Human jump. He smirked again, feeling the fear, and he turned back, see him shiver slightly. He gritted his teeth.

"Not interested." He spat. Eggman heaved, not at all surprised at the response. He was a rotund Human whose name implied, his torso was shaped like an egg, albeit an upside-down egg. He possesses pale peach skin and was overweight. He also possesses a dome-shaped head and no visible neck, a bald head, a bright red and big nose, small round ears, and a very smooth, yet wide, brown moustache. He also had smooth, yet still broad shoulder, and thick arms. He also had slightly short legs by comparison to the rest of his body and relatively small feet.

Supposedly, Eggman's head was once full of hair, but he had since gone bald over the years. His usual wore different types of militaristic garments. He wore a red jacket with yellow cuffs, a front flap attached to one of the buttons and two flap hanging from the back, blue pince-nez glasses, white gloves, a set of grey goggles with flappable green lenses, grey trousers and a pair of black boots with high rims. On his right wrist he had his wrist controller. Orbot and Cubot were either side of him. His fumbled with his hands, for a few seconds, desperately not wanting to anger the Black Hedgehog as he had practically almost destroyed his base, on his own. He heaved.

"I suspected you would say that, but I promise this one's his right up your alley, especially considering the Blue Pin-cushion can't swim." He sniggered. Suddenly, Shadow smirked, the word 'swim' catching his interest greatly, to Eggman's complete surprise. The Black Hedgehog rounded on him wanting to hear more. Then he'd decide if he was going to cooperate. Eggman gulped. "I have secretly building an deep underwater base for years, and now it was finally at completion. Unfortunately, as soon as it goes online, that dam Fox with detect it, and sent in the demolition squad. I need someone to hold them at bay, until I can get the security and alarm system installed and fully functioning. I suspected you might be interested as there was the potential of drowning an certain Blue Hedgehog we both know." He sniggered. Then Eggman frowned. "That is. Er? You can swim, can't you?" He asked, genuinely having no idea. Shadow sneered at the Human, extremely harshly, at the mere thought of him not being able to do something. Granted, swimming wasn't his greatest of skills. His enormous weight did cause problems, as he just tended to just sink then walk along the bottom, rather then swim but was just about strong enough to propel himself through the water, certainly for this task, and he could hold his breathe for far longer then anyone. He leered at the Human.

"Well, enough." He hissed, to a delighted Human. The Black Hedgehog himself smirked. Drowning the Blue Blur. Yes, now that did seriously appeal, especially since his humiliation by his hand at their last missing. All Shadow had to do was grab Sonic, allow his almighty weight to drop him like a stone, under the water, to the ocean floor, and hold the Blue Blur there until he drowned. Let him go and then swim back to the surface. Could he hold his breath that long? Yes, he done it before. People drowned far sooner then Shadow ever ran out of air.

He smirked, evilly at the thought. Maybe this might answer his ocean questions about the Blue Blur. Regardless, the troublesome Hedgehog was dying today.

Tails was happily working in his Workshop. It was a two-story tall, rectangular wooden barn with a curved black tin roof. It had several entrances, including sliding doors and a first-story door on the front and doorways on the side, each with a tin overhang. These doors were clearly built for people around the height of Tails and his friends, as Eggman had to bend over in order to fit through them. On the side was an annex that appears to be a garage. On top of the roof was a platform with a large windmill and a chimney. Supposedly, the workshop also had a defence system consisting of cages and lasers.

The interior of Tails' Workshop houses a number of things, including a workbench, a forge, shelves with different mechanical parts and video games, panels with tools, a dryer, an industrial strength lab kiln, and a small toilet. It was large enough to host Tail's plane should it need maintenance, which currently it was. The workshop also had a security camera for surveillance. Because of all the tools lying around, the workshop can be a pretty dangerous place.

Regardless, Tails was humming away, making his Super Sonic friend do all the work. Mainly cleaning, as the Blue Blur wouldn't stand still. The Fox heaved, as Sonic was doing his head in, yet again. He was a young Fox cub about half a head shorter that the Blue Blur with a unique genetic mutation giving him two tails instead of one. He had mostly amber fur with white fur around his muzzle with cheek tufts, front torso with fluffy fur on top of his chest, and the tips of his tails. He also had sky blue eyes, triangular ears with white canals on top of his head, a small black nose, and three locks of hair on his forehead.

He wore a pair of brown goggles with orange lenses on his head that change shape when worn on his eyes, a brown work belt with a strap around his shoulder, which can store small items. A small, golden, circular buckle adorned with his signature symbol rests in the centre, while white medium-long gloves with no cuffs adorn his hands. He also wore red sneakers with white toes and cuffs, which have white sports tape wrapped around the middle. He occasionally wore his Communicator. He roared in pure frustration.

"Sonic!" He grilled, only for the Blue Blur to finally stand still. "What's gotten into you today. You've cleaned everything so hard, you've actually worn holes into stuff." He spat, throughly unimpressed. Sonic gulped, very fidgety.

"Sorry." He stammered. "I think got a little carried away there." He grinned, only for the Fox to roll his eyes in yet more frustration. He sighed.

"An understatement, as always." He growled. Suddenly, a female Badger suddenly burst into Tails Workshop, brandishing a wooden staff. She growled.

"Alright. Who ate all the ice cream?" She streaked at the top of her voice. Both Sonic and Tails just stared at the extremely random comment. Sonic sighed.

"Sticks. No one's stolen any ice cream." He sniggered, but the Badger just rounded on him. She was a Badger only slightly taller then Tails. She had orange fur with long thick hair on the back of her head, which she keeps in two locks with auburn strings, and two brown stripes across each of her eyes and bushy round ears that reach the end of her hair. She was rather scrawny, with a peach muzzle, a small black nose, blue eyes and a medium-long bushy tail.

Sticks' wore a midriff-baring tube top and a skirt with an auburn rope belt, each made of worn-down grey fabric stitched together, and tan fur-skin boots, one which had a fur cuff and the other which had metal bands on it. As accessories, she wore a golden band on her right upper arm, a spiral bracelet on her left wrist and a necklace braided with seashells and a gold ring. She looked throughly unimpressed at Sonic.

"Then why can I smell seaweed in here." She growled. Tails stared and sniffed, unable to smell anything, but Sonic subtly tighten his neckerchief still further. He knew the real reason of what that meant, but he heaved, making it look as though he knew nothing and then stared at the Badger somewhat disgusted.

"Oh, Sticks, gross. Who eats Seaweed flavoured ice cream, let alone invents it?" He hissed, but Sticks, just growled at him, still unconvinced. She growled, again.

"Well, someone had, because all of my stores are empty." She spat. She stormed so close to Sonic, that she backed him right up against the workbench, causing him to pant hard. Suddenly, someone walk in to the workshop behind her, looking horrified at her friend treating her Sonic so badly. She scowled.

"Sticks." She hissed, folding her arms. Amy Rose was a pink-furred, thin, Hedgehog with green eyes and peach skin covering her muzzle, inner ears, and arms. She had a small, black nose, triangular ears on top of her head, and no back spines. She also had two long eyelashes on each side of her eyes. Additionally, her five short head quills point downwards, somewhat resembling a bob cut. She also had three spikes for bangs on her head, and a short tail. She wore both a cerise hairband and a cerise minidress with a white collar, yellow buttons on the her left side, and a lavender sarashi around her waist. She also wore white gloves, purple sports tape and golden ring bracelets around her wrists, purple stockings, and dark-pink/violet shoes with light pink soles and toes, grey straps, and pink plates with two yellow buttons on top. She also occasionally wore her Communicator. She growled.

Upon seeing her, the Blue Blur squealed in pure relief. He stammered.

"Amy, get this weirdo off of me." He spat, of which both Amy and Tail oblige, grabbing each by the arms. Sticks fought against them until she finally relented the other side of the Workshop. She brandished a finger at the Blue Blur. She gritted her teeth.

"I'm watching you." She spat, and then huffed out of the Workshop, to calm down in the main square. Amy heaved, rounding on Sonic.

"What was that all about?" She spat. Both Sonic and Tails shrugged, but someone who had just woken up the other side of the Workshop, suddenly cut cross them. He yawned.

"I don't know, but the ice cream sure sounded good." He giggled, somewhat dizzy. But Sonic just sighed, rolling his eyes.

"Seriously, Knucklehead. Seaweed flavour?" He heaved, but the Echidna just drooled. He grinned.

"Oh, yeah." He howled, standing up and punching the sky only to knock several of Tails' devices flying. He gulped. "Oh, sorry." He added, looking somewhat sheepish. He was an extremely large, over a head taller than Sonic, with red fur that covers most of his body, peach skin on his muzzle, a white crescent-shaped patch of fur on his chest, and purple eyes. He had a rather large torso, broad shoulders and thick muscular arms, making him very top-heavy, and possesses long, if somewhat thin legs in comparison. He also had seven long dreadlocks-like spines around the sides and back of his head and a medium-sized, tri-crooked tail.

He wore a pair of red and yellow shoes, designed with wrap-like markings, that have green cuffs and grey metal plates on top. He also wore gloves with knuckle-spikes on them and had white sports tape wrapped around his hands, the lower half of his arms and legs, and his biceps, making him similar to a Muay Thai boxer. He also occasionally wore his Communicator. But Amy just scowled in pure frustration.

"I can't believe Sticks is still going on about that dam seaweed. I can't smell anything, and yet she claims it's everywhere." She roared. Sonic gulped, but thankfully, nobody noticed as suddenly, Tails' Eggman Monitor just went absolute berserk. Beeping like crazy, alarms going off. Tails runs over and examining the device, the colour drains from him, as he turns around. He swears, much to the stares of the others. He gulped.

"Guys. This isn't good."
