Chapter3

The next day I woke up and made myself some coffee while cleaning up the outrageously messy apartment that the previous occupant left. Using my kagune I cleaned up the room leaving it squeaky clean without dirtying my hand plus, I get to practice control using my kagune. I sat down beside the window with a coffee in hand as I planned how to live my life from now on.

Fighting in the ring like I used to would be a dead giveaway since ghouls are usually seven times stronger than normal humans while working ordinary jobs even though I technically qualify would make my desire to explore the world hard to achieve not to mention it would make a waste out of my abilities. I silently thought through possible legal or illegal jobs that I can get into where I can earn a large amount of money, have a lot of freedom and make use of my abilities.

For an hour I sat there while sipping terrible instant coffee then an idea hit me or rather, a memory from my past life gave me a somewhat brilliant idea. When I was scheduled a heavyweight fight in America the opposition hired a Gunman to assassinate me making him win by default, though I honestly can't blame him for hiring someone since I have a tendency for sending my opponents to the E.R. Since Japan is divided by wards, the ghouls in each wards would usually congregate themselves and make an organization which means there will most likely be numerous fights and skirmishes between factions of ghouls in-between each wards allowing for mercenaries and assassins to thrive.

A predatory smile bloomed on my face as I thought about how to proceed getting my name in there but I stopped since I may have already left an advertise last night. All I need to do is wait for 'The perch' to check here for my victim last night. It seems that I'll need to start training again; now that I'm here I feel like I have no need to keep suppressing the urges I have unlike in the previous world where I would need to keep a tight lid on it if I don't want to be labeled as a psychopath and emotionally hurt Carmen again. With ghouls prowling the night and CCG investigators hunting them(us) it's obvious that strength matters here the most.

For the last couple of weeks, I've been training inside the apartment and in the nearby gym which prompted me to work hard in holding back my ghoul strength focusing solely on technique and execution. As for my financial needs which is gym card, coffees, clothes and rent; I've been hunting random lowlifes eating and robbing them of their money. Although I admit that this maneuver is not sustainable, I just need to hold out until 'The perch' take notice of one of their members disappearance.

My gains have been quite substantial; I've honed my boxing skills enough, stacked enough food to last for two to three months, learned how to control my physique and lastly learned the trick when eating human food.

19th Ward: Kato District-16th Street (3rd P.O.V)

"Hey Kato do you want to bet?" Hado said to his fellow ghoul colleague with a very expectant tone. He sat on top of an electrical pole while observing a particular window on a building across the street.

The guy named Kato grunted before replying in a bored tone. "What bet?" Kato was standing on a roof top of a house behind the electrical pole that Hado was sitting on.

Hado snickered mischievously "I bet that our target has a Rinkaku kagune." He confidently stated while nodding contentedly. Kato just sighed; he was paired with Hado since he is the only one most likely to not snap from Hado's antics. "Very well, I will bet on him having a Bikaku kagune." Kato said with an unenthused voice.

'At the very least he will do his job earnestly, even if he's being annoying about it.' Kato thought not taking his eyes away from the target location. "I'll enter through the window; you go and use the door so the target won't have any chance to escape." Hado ordered while Kato nodded while leaping down from the pole and then sprinting down towards the building entrance.

Hado activated his Kagune and then flew to the other buildings window where their supposed target is located. "My instincts are getting a little restless. I just hope the two of us are enough to accomplish this task. The Perch is having a lot of problems nowadays and we can't have another unknown variable here in our territory." He mused out loud as he accelerated his descent to the window.

I stopped my musing when my instincts flared. I activated my kagune to weave itself and harden around me forming something akin to a cocoon. As soon as that was done the windows and the apartment rooms' entrance door burst into the room revealing two ghouls with identical bird masks.

The ghouls didn't waste time and charged at me as their kagune's sprouted behind their respective backs. The ghoul that charged from the door sprouted a blood red Bikaku on his back while the one that entered through the window has a beautiful light blue Ukaku. The Ukaku dude shot blue shards to me while the other one jumped to the ceiling right above me fully intending to strike me from above and not getting shot by his partner, though I personally thought jumping mid-air when facing me is a bad idea.

I shot 5 conjoined threads at the Bikaku user while he was mid-air wrapping it into his sharpened tail and flung him into the shards' direct line of fire. He painfully exclaimed as numerous shards imbedded themselves into his body flinging blood all over the apartment and then using the same conjoined threads, I flung him again to the other guy's direction.

"Fuck!" I heard the Ukaku bird man curse out of frustration as he dodged to the side evading the body. I took advantage of his slight relief, shooting numerous sharp threads in his direction.

*SLRKCH!(X6)

"Aaaghh!"

As six grey threads pierced him and rendered him immobile, I sauntered near him but he suddenly flared his kagune and shot a large singular shard to me though I immediately weaved to the right and then threw a right hook to his jaw that made a resounding crack knocking him out.

'Urgh! Crap this is bad. Seriously! I thought this was just a simple bug problem, Fuck! I don't even know what kind of Kagune that guy has.' Hado groaned painfully on the floor while plucking out Kato's kagune shards. As soon as he plucked out the last shard, he reassessed the situation around him.

Hado looked to the only to witness his partner receiving a nasty right hook while getting skewered by their targets' thread-like Kagune. 'What kind of kagune is that?! This is bad, this is really bad! The Perch is already having terrible territory Issues we can't have another variable inside our territory; especially something this dangerous!' An unpleasant feeling started growing on the pit of his stomach as he found their target getting closer to him.

He activated his Bikaku in a moment of panic but was immediately swarmed by numerous threads of Grey kagune which pierced the none vital areas of his body while the other threads bound his Kagune. He screamed in pain as he felt the threads slither their way into his body, wrapping themselves to his bones and organs which effectively immobilized him. As the steady stream of pain trickled down, he looked up only to see Yu's unsympathetic coal black eyes and pale stoic face. Hado felt despair creep up on him for the very first time of his ghoul life.

"Well, that was easy." I chuckled lightly while facing the shivering form of the Bikaku bird man, the other Birdman was knocked out so I just let him rest for a bit. Now my future will be decided by how this interaction goes. As soon as the other one woke up, I cleared my throat and manipulated one of my threads to drag a chair behind me so I could get comfortable while talking to these ghouls.

"Please calm down for a bit gentlemen. I'm not here to cause trouble and the guy you assigned to this area was being rude so I have no choice but to eliminate him." I pleasantly said with a wan smile. Raising my hands in a faux surrender I decided to start my 'Job' explanation. "I am a Mercenary from Korea. I'm just here for vacation. I don't mean no harm."

I gently retrieved my threads back so my words can have a lot of impact and lessens their skepticism. "Here take this" I handed them a black business card with a grey font and a phone number engraved on it. I recently made a lot of this things since I figured that business cards are important for mercenaries because they act as advertisements and a way for clients to call me for jobs.
