"Author's note: I know, I know, I'm starting something else. This one I WILL finish, I'm handling thing from home for the next week, so I'll have time to write. Smeg's hiatus…..*sighs* I fail to understand how he can have zero time to write for over 8 straight months. Don't hold your breath, I'd expect by this point the next part won't come out till the next Olympics, and then the next chapter in 2028. Go tell him how much you love his writing and you'd love to see him come back. Anyway, here's chapter one of the Spookfest

Chloe sat looking at the rain as it fell outside the dormroom she shared with Aubrey. It was coming down really hard, and there was lots of wind. Aubrey was on her bed, doing the reading for her literature class. Frankenstein, it felt right for this time of year. She was just about ready to turn the page, when there was a clap of thunder followed by the lights flickering and then going out. She looked in the direction of where her redheaded roommate gave out a surprised squeak. "It's ok Chloe, I'm sure they won't be out that long."
"What if they are though?" Chloe asked, turning on the flashlight feature on her phone.
"Then they are." Aubrey shrugged as she put her bookmark in and set the book down. "It's 11:30, we may as well just go to bed and deal with it in the morning if they're not back on."
"I guess you're right." Chloe sighed as she looked out the window. The rain was still coming down, but now in total darkness. "I…I kind of hate asking this…but would you mind if I slept in your bed tonight? I'm scared of the dark."
Aubrey was in the process of getting settled when she heard the redhead's meekly asked question. She wasn't sure how to respond. She hadn't told Chloe that she's gay yet. Especially as she found herself falling for the redhead. She was trying to ignore it, she didn't want to fall for a straight girl she had no shot with, but there's just something about Chloe. She didn't want to pass up a chance to get a glimpse of what it could be like.."Ok, I guess."
"Thank you." Chloe said, moving to Aubrey's bed. "Can I have the wall?"
"Sure." Aubrey said, letting Chloe in. "Do you want to talk about it?"
"What's to talk about?" Chloe answered "When I was little, my brothers would pick on me. Tell me there were all kinds of things that would come and get me."
"That's horrible." Aubrey said, getting comfortable. "Yeah my sister and I fought some times, but she never scared me on purpose."
"They're not all that bad." Chloe defended. "Like, they were always there for me when I needed them. When I came out, they wouldn't let anyone pick on me. Sure in Portland it didn't happen a lot, but it still happened."
"Wait, you're gay?" Aubrey asked when she heard what Chloe said.
"No, I'm bi, is that a problem?" Chloe retorted. "Please don't let it be a problem."
"I am." Aubrey said softly, quickly realizing how it could have come across "I'm gay, it's not a problem."
"I thought so." Chloe smiled. "And I'm glad you are…I like you Aubrey. As more than a friend."
"I do too." Aubrey returned, moving closer to Chloe "I thought you were straight. The last girl I liked in McLean, it didn't go well, and it hurt."
"So, can we date?" Chloe asked hopefully.
"We can." Aubrey answered, kissing the redhead.
"Bree, I have to tell you, I'm not really afraid of the dark." Chloe added, snuggling into the blonde.
