Summary: Dedicated to Alex Lover who asked for something similar on how they're doing in the future. Completely AU! What if Steve and Grace's relationship went downhill since she found out he was her father? This is my take. Physically and emotionally hurt Steve included.

*Five Years Later*

Strained. That's the word to describe Steve and Grace relationship in the last three years not the whole five years ago though since she found out he was her actual father though. Things were going well the first two years but the last three years things became strained in a way that could probably never be repaired.

The worst part was that Danny had to be a mediator between them to try to diffuse the situation currently about to happen. He was walking into the kitchen with a bag of groceries he had just gotten back from getting. He caught the tail end of the argument.

"... you're the Problem and I CAN'T stand being around you," Grace yelled as she stepped up close to Steve poking him in the chest hard. "I don't want you anywhere near my wedding. In fact, I don't even want-"

Danny quickly dropped the bags and went to stand between the two hands held out to separate the two.

"Whoa Whoa Whoa. What in the world is going on here?" he said cutting off Grace.

"What does it look like Danno?" he said as he continued looking at his daughter. "You don't want what?"

"I don't want you to walk me down the aisle," she snarled as she watched him take a step back as if burnt. "I wish you never told me you were my father and then maybe we wouldn't be in this predicament now."

"Maybe it was a mistake on my part but what if you had got sick and you found out Danny wasn't your father to begin with... you would've hated me for hiding it that's what and I couldn't go down that route so I'm not sorry you found out the way you did because I would do it all over again..." he said as he trailed off as he turned his back on her wiping a hand down his face.

"Grace before you speak again think about what you're saying." Danny said looking between the two.

She wanted to tell him she regretted saying that she wishes she hadn't known he wasn't her father. Most of all, she wanted to tell him she could never ever hate him no matter what. So, realizing her mistake she started to apologize but her mouth had other ideas and what came out wasn't pretty as if she didn't even hear what Danny said.

"Why couldn't you have just stayed my uncle? As far as you're concerned, Danno is my father not you. You mean nothing to me!" she spat loudly.

"STOP IT GRACE NOW!" Danny yelled with authority but his words went unheard.

"I never want to see you again!" she yelled and then quickly covered her mouth afterward reliving the moment she told him that the first time and his expression as she said it. He was wearing that same expression she never wanted to see again.

"You hate me that much?! You don't want me at your wedding at all?" he said looking at me now with tears running down his face demanding an answer.

When he received no answer, he nodded his head before turning to leave but Danny blocked his way.

"GET OUTTA MY WAY DANNO NOW!" he demanded while holding a hand over his chest where his heart would be.

He pushed Danny away from the door almost knocking hm down but not succeeding because that's how weak he felt at the moment.

"She didn't mean it just look at her. You know how she gets-"

"Too late Danno," he said softly before leaning in to whisper into Danny's ear: "You win."

Danny began to wrestle Steve back into the house after he had vomited into the bush wishing this day never came about.

"What do you mean?" Danny said as he begin talking some sense into him. "You're my friend and she is just as much yours as she is my daughter."

"No she's not. She said as much. Remember that deal we made well I'm fulfilling my role seeing as you wanted me nowhere near your family if that happened now let me go."

Danny heard a gasp nearby and knew it to only be her for they were the only three in the house. Rachel was at work. He looked over his shoulder and saw Grace covering her mouth tears running down her face at hearing what he had said.

"No! She's going to apologize and we're going to put this all behind us. Right Grace?"

She nodded and came over where they were at wiping her eyes. "Danno is right about everything dad. I'm-"

He shot up from the couch still holding his heart with one hand. "Don't call me that unless you mean it. I don't want to hear it!"

The last thing he saw was the miserable expression on Grace's face as he was about to leave. "I don't feel so..."

His legs gave out on him and everything turned black but not before he heard his names from the two people he loved most in this world one of which he didn't think loved him anymore.

"DAD!" What do you know? Turns out she did mean to call him dad.

"STEVE!"
