Prologue: Awakening
Darkness.. everywhere he looked he was surrounded in a barren void. He felt so energised, yet he could not move. He couldn't remember where he was or why he was there. He could remember things though, language, items, but he could not recall where he had learned about them. He wasn't sure how long he had been here, a minute? An hour? Longer? He couldn't tell, he felt like he'd been here forever but he had no reason to believe that. He saw a small spark of light, it began to grow. He felt he had seen it before, had felt it warm his being before, but he couldn't recall where. Just as something was coming to him it went away, it was so frustrating. He heard a soft mumble, barely audible. It was in his head, was he crazy? The light continued to get brighter. "..Open your eyes.." That voice.. it felt so familiar, yet so foreign. He longed to hear it again. His eyes began to open, his vision was blurry at first, he could see blue above him, his skin felt wet as though he'd been submerged in water. "Open your eyes.." The voice made him feel comfortable, but why it did was unknown to him. "Open your eyes." It was perfectly clear now. He could feel a liquid receding. "Wake up, Link." He felt his limbs now, felt his entire body. He slowly sat up, looking around. He was in a small room, it was dark. Above him was a strange, blue glowing device. He slowly stepped over the edge of whatever kind of bed he had woken up on and looked around. The room was empty except for a small pedestal in the corner, and a door that was locked. He made his way over to the pedestal. As he approached it the interface spun around before raising up, and a small device propped up. He couldn't help but feel he had seen this before. "That is a Sheikah Slate. Take it. It will help guide you after your long slumber." Who was speaking? Why were they helping him? He had so many questions that he couldn't ask. He reached out and took the device before seeing the wall open up. Tenaciously, he stepped forward, seeing two small chests, he opened one, finding a shirt inside, it looked old but he figured he may as well wear it to keep himself warm. He opened the other chest and found some old trousers inside. He slipped them on before seeing another pedestal. He walked towards it cautiously before hearing the voice again. "Hold the Sheikah Slate up to the pedestal. That will show you the way." He did as the voice instructed, it wasn't like he had much of a choice anyways. Upon placing the Sheikah Slate against the pedestal it retracted for a moment before being presented to him again. He took it as the door began to open. As he walked towards it he was blinded by light after being in a dark place for so long. "Link.. You are the light- our light- that must shine upon Hyrule once again. Now, go.." He looked up at the exit, freedom. He quickly stepped forward, barely even registering the small puddle. He climbed the rock with ease before running up towards the edge of a cliff ahead of him, wanting to see his surroundings. He stood at the edge, seeing tall mountains, a volcano, and a castle. He smiled gently as he felt the sun on his skin, the breeze in his hair, and he inhaled a breath of the wild.
He had been exploring for some time, he had met only one person, but they were very secretive, he doubted that no matter how hard he tried, he wasn't going to get much information from the old man. He had found an axe which he carried around with him. It seemed as though there was dangerous creatures around the place, he wished to avoid them for the time being. He wandered around aimlessly, picking apples from trees and eating them before moving on to whatever else sparked his interest. He felt so carefree, so weightless, it would've felt perfect if only his questions could be answered. He hadn't heard the voice in some time, though he desperately wished for it to speak again. He felt he had some sort of connection with it, but he didn't know what connection. Then, he heard it. "Link.." She had said that before, was that his name? "Link. Head for the point marked on the map in your Sheikah Slate." He frowned slightly before taking it out and staring down at its screen. It came to life before showing him a blue screen with multiple lines intersecting. He saw a lone, yellow dot marked not too far away from him it seemed. His location was shown in the form of an arrow from what he could tell. He checked the rest of the map, looking for anything. This was odd, from what he knew, maps were supposed to have information and place names on them. He pondered this for a moment before hearing something behind him. He turned, seeing one of those foul creatures, it raised its hand, it held some sort of carved weapon. As it swung, instinct kicked in. He stepped back before pulling his axe out and splitting open the head of the beast. He gazed down at the creature as it faded into a small puff of magenta. He was overwhelmed with fascination and horror. He needed to get to that point, maybe there he would get some answers. He quickly made his way over to the area, seeing another creature guarding it. He pulled out his axe and threw it forwards, upon hitting the creature, it shattered. He reckoned it may have been flimsy after not being used for very long, the old man hadn't objected to him taking it so he didn't think it belonged to him. He walked over to where the creature had stood previously before picking up a small blade and a shield. He looked up, seeing another pedestal. He quickly made his way over before placing the Sheikah Slate down onto the pedestal. As soon as it settled into the pedestal the whole thing glowed orange, it warned him of falling rocks which struck him as odd. Before he had time to move the ground shook and he fell backwards. As he looked up the ground continued to rumble before he noticed that he was rising up. He stared up at the sky for a moment until he came to a stop. He slowly got up onto his feet before looking around. The view was incredible. The pedestal turned blue and he noticed an object above it beginning to glow, he watched as a drop of some liquid fell from the stalactite before hitting the surface of the Sheikah Slate. He slowly picked it up and realised that he could now see one section of the map. He glanced around, seeing more elevated towers, he must require them to discover more. He turned away from the pedestal, prepared to leave. "Remember.. Try.. try to remember.." He turned around after hearing a soft resonating sound in the distance. There was a glowing light coming from the castle. "You have been asleep for the last 100 years." He frowned in confusion, how was that even possible? "The beast.." He looked at the castle, still confused before seeing a mist appear, it was magenta in colour. He remembered hearing about it, malice, and he couldn't shake the feeling that this very voice had told him about it. "When the beast regains its true power, the world will face its end. Now then.. You must hurry, Link. Before it's too late.." He watched closely, seeing the spectral beast disappear as the light began to fade. He wanted more information. How was he supposed to kill that thing? Why was he even chosen to kill that thing? So many questions.. so little time..
He soon realised, that the only way to get answers, was to find her.
