Epilogue: Dreams Come True
5 years later.
Zelda adjusted her glasses slightly as she examined the small, glowing vial in her hand. "Let's hope it works this time.." She muttered to herself, placing it into the back of the now deadened slate. The Sheikah Slate had not lasted much longer after they had sailed from Hyrule, she'd been spending the last few years working on various machines inspired by the Sheikah, along with experimenting with perpetual power in the hopes that she could find a solution to replace malice. She waited for a few moments before tapping the screen of the Sheikah Slate. "Come on.." She whispered, adjusting the vial slightly before watching the screen crackle to life. She giggled with disbelief. "It works!" She exclaimed, removing the vial from the Slate and placing it down carefully to the side, making note of the design.
They had made it to a remote island 5 years ago where they began working on a home together. Zelda had created her own laboratory whilst Link worked on a kitchen. They had a farm where they bred the animals which inhabited the island whilst also growing their own food, which Link had made quite a good job of. It felt liberating to finally have what they'd dreamt of together, so many years ago.
She poked her head up from the desk, to look out the window as she heard laughter in the distance. She saw Link on the shore, helping their son catch a fish whilst their daughter was creating a structure in the sand. She smiled softly as she looked out at the trio. They'd named their son Rhoam, after her father, and named their daughter Saria after Link's sister. Rhoam was proudly holding up a fish no larger than the palm of his hand. Link had been insistent on teaching them how to cook and fend for themselves, which Zelda had been more than supportive of. She removed her glasses before getting up from her chair, grabbing the vial along with the Sheikah Slate.
She made her way downstairs, exiting the house before making her way down to the beach. "You all seem to be having fun." She commented as she arrived by the seaside. "Mother! Look at what I caught!" William ran up to her, holding the fish out for her to examine. She knelt down, taking a closer look at the catch. "Your father can cook that for your dinner tonight, how does that sound?" The boy nodded excitedly before placing the fish into a basket and returning to the sea, fishing rod in hand.
She stood up as Link approached her, a smile on his face. She held out the Sheikah Slate and watched as his eyes widened. "You figured it out?" She nodded gently before bursting into laughter as he picked her up with his arms, spinning her around a few times before setting her back down on the ground. "That's incredible, I'm proud of you." He complimented, taking a look at the Sheikah Slate. "It seems that the Shrine of Resurrection is still activated after Maz Koshia's activation of it.." Link pointed out. Zelda glanced at the screen for a moment before glancing back at their house. "Perhaps I'll be able to make a fast travel point some time in the future, allowing us to go back to visit our friends." She suggested before turning back to Link. "But that will take some time. I can help you cook this evening if you'd like." Link smiled with gratitude. "I'd like that." He looked over his shoulder. "William, Saria, it's time to head back." The children spent a minute or two getting their things together before making a head start back to the house, racing each other. "Aren't they just perfect?" Zelda stated, a fond smile on her lips. "Most of the time, when they aren't making a mess." Link chuckled lightly before taking hold of her hand and walking with her back to their home.
They had sent the kids to bed after dinner, deciding to enjoy the evening together. They strolled along the wide expanse of beach as the sun came close to setting. "It's funny to think how much disaster we prevented, had we not intervened Hyrule would be in an apocalyptic state by now." Link stated, gazing out to see where the sun was setting, in the direction of their old home. His mind was at ease now that he knew how much pain and suffering they had prevented. He had managed to get over the guilt of the destruction of their real home back in their own timeline, knowing that someday, somehow Demyrule would be destroyed, and evil would be suppressed by another Hero and Princess.
"I wonder how our past selves progressed their relationship at this point.." Zelda mused before coming to a stop and sitting down. Link took a seat next to her before shrugging lightly. "I'd assume you've gone on to become queen, as for my past self, I'd like to think I'm ruling by your side." Zelda rested her head on his shoulder. "If everything we've been through has shown me anything, it's that you'd be more than brave enough to take on that task." Her voice was as soft and gentle as ever, sending warmth throughout Link's body. "Nonetheless, I much prefer what we have now. Just being free to do as we please." He closed his eyes, feeling the warmth of the sun beam down on his skin. "And do as we please we have." Zelda giggled lightly as she took hold of his hands. "We'll see them again someday, when they're ready." He nodded gently at her words. "But for now I'm more than happy to sit in our little bubble." The last few rays of sunshine began to disappear over the horizon. "Why don't we sleep out here tonight?" He suggested, opening his eyes and looking down at her. Her eyes peered up at him. "How could I say no?" She smiled sweetly at him before turning around, her body facing his as they wrapped their arms around each other. "I love you." Link whispered softly. "I know." Zelda teased before their lips met, their love burning brighter than ever.
And never planning to burn out.
The End.
