Chapter 3.
Draco rang the bell of Number 12 Grimmauld place at 5:55pm. The door swung open before he could remove his finger from the bell. He found himself looking at a tiny blue haired boy in pajamas and slippers who stared up at him with curiosity.
"Umm...I must have the wrong house..." Draco started to back down the stairs and to his horror the little boy started to follow. The little boy hadn't spoken but was standing on the top step, his large blue eyes boring into Draco's panic filled gray eyes.
"Uhhh...where is your mummy and daddy? I'm sure they wouldn't want you outside." Draco asked the boy timidly; He never knew how to behave around children.
The little boy kept his eyes on Draco and yelled, "MUMMY! THERE'S A MAN HERE!"
Draco heard the click clack of heels and a little witch with brilliant red hair came into view. She was wearing a fitted dark blue cocktail dress that showed off her very small, but noticeable baby bump.
"Teddy dear did you call me?" she asked as she rounded the corner, putting an earring into her ear. When she saw the open door and the little boy on the porch, her eyes went wide as she grabbed him.
"Teddy! What did I tell you about answering the door without mummy or daddy? And it's cold outside! You could get sick. Go find daddy so he can put you in bed." She kissed him on the head and swatted him on the bottom as he ran back into the house.
She stood up and smiled warmly at Draco who was standing hesitantly on the bottom step.
"Draco! I'm so sorry; I was in the kitchen and I didn't hear the bell. Do come in."
He walked through the door and handed her a bouquet of pink roses.
"Oh thank you! These are lovely! May I take your coat?" she asked.
He handed her his coat and said as casually as he possibly could, "I didn't know you and Potter already had a child. Why didn't you mention it at your appointment the other day? That's important to know."
Ginny smirked at him, "Harry and I don't have any biological children yet." She dropped her voice and continued, "Teddy is actually your cousin...kind of."
He looked at her incredulously. She nodded and finished explaining.
"His parents were Remus Lupin and Nymphadora Tonks. Harry is his godfather and we adopted him when we got married."
"Excuse me if I'm being too forward, but does he know about his parents? He called you mummy--"
"We've told him as much as you can explain to a six year old. We've shown him pictures and everything. We told him he doesn't have to call us mum and dad but he keeps insisting that I'm his mummy and Harry is daddy. He says he's a lucky boy because he has two mummies and two daddies who love him so we stopped pushing the issue. We'll explain more as he gets older."
A tear fell down her cheek. "I'm sorry for the tears, it's the hormones."
"Hey Gin, Teddy said you told him he didn't have to go to bed--" Harry started as he came into the entryway. He broke off when he saw Ginny crying and Draco standing there awkwardly patting her on the back.
"Malfoy when did you get here?" Harry asked as he pulled his wife into his arms and she broke down sobbing, Draco just stood there staring at the crying woman.
Harry noticed his concern and reassured him.
"She's fine, she's been crying on and off all day. OW! Ginny!" She had stomped on his foot and stormed off.
Draco laughed inwardly as his former enemy looked up at the ceiling and closed his eyes, trying to curb his frustration.
"Anyway, Malfoy--er--Draco. Welcome to our home." He extended his hand to Draco who shook it tentatively.
"Come into the drawing room for now; I'm sure Ginny will want to give you a tour once we get Teddy into bed."
Draco took a seat on one of the couches as Harry hurried out of the room calling after Ginny. He found it very amusing that the man who survived the killing curse twice was putty in the hands of the small but fierce Ginny Weasley.
He was pretty sure she was the reason Harry had called him by his first name. She had him on a very tight leash indeed. He was looking at a picture of them from their wedding that was on the side table when Ginny came into the room and flashed a bright smile at him.
"Sorry about that Draco!" She came and sat on the couch next to him. "I just wanted to tell you how happy we are that you came to dinner!"
He smirked, "It's not like you were giving me a choice were you?"
"What an astute observation Malfoy; I was not. Now, what time is it?"
He looked at his watch. "6:09."
"Okay, perfect. I told Hermione to be here at 6:15. Knowing her, she won't be able to wait so she'll be here right about...now." She smiled as she heard Hermione stepping out of the fireplace.
"Gin, I know you said to be here at 6:15 but I couldn't wait any long--" Hermione looked up as she exited the fireplace at Grimmauld Place and froze mid sentence, gaping at Ginny and the tall, blonde man on the couch next to her.
"Hello Hermione! So glad you could make it." She walked over to Hermione and ignored the death glare Hermione was giving her.
"Don't just stand there, come say hello to your friend." She pushed her towards Draco.
They stood there in silence staring at each other. Ginny spoke again, "I'll let you two catch up; I'm going to go check on dinner." She left the room, leaving Hermione and Draco in awkward silence.
Hermione fidgeted with her hands and tucked a hair behind her ear, trying to avoid Draco's pointed gaze.
"Long time no see, Hermione." He said softly. Hermione's face went bright red when she heard her name flow silkily off his tongue.
Ginny poked her head back into the room. "Mione can you give Draco a tour of the house before we eat?"
"Uh sure...You can follow me Draco." She led him from the drawing room and walked around the house with him, showing him the different rooms.
"You know this house pretty well." He smiled at her.
"Oh yeah well, we stayed here during the war, before it was renovated and Harry, Ron and I lived here together after I finished school. And then Ginny insisted that I stay even after she and Harry got married; She didn't want me living alone." She laughed nervously.
"I just moved out a little over a year ago so yeah I know the house well."
"So you guys are all still very close?" Draco asked as she gestured quietly to the closed door behind which Harry was putting Teddy to bed.
"Yeah for the most part. Ron is engaged so I don't see him as much but you know Harry is like my brother so we have lunch together at least once a week. Plus, we work in the same building. And Ginny is my best friend so we obviously hang out a lot as well."
They walked back into the drawing room and sat down on the sofa. Draco looked at her pensively.
"Draco? Why are you looking at me like that?"
"No reason." He shook his head and looked away from her.
"So have you been seeing anyone lately?"
She didn't get a chance to respond because right then Ron Weasley walked out of the fireplace having a whispered argument with Padma Patil about the child sleeping in her arms.
He stopped when he noticed Draco.
"Oi, Malfoy!? What are you doing in my sister's house?!"
"He's my guest Ronald," Ginny said as she re-entered the drawing room carrying a tray with hors d'oeuvres and Harry right behind her.
She set the tray down and glared at her brother.
"I thought you were bringing Ravi later so you could get dessert before you leave?"
"We were going to but Padma decided--" He stopped as Padma pinched his arm hard.
"WE decided we wanted to get a head start on the trip."
"So you aren't staying for dinner then?" Hermione asked.
"Hermione! I didn't even see you there!" Ron gave her a hug.
"No, we're going on a little vacation this week and Ginny and Harry are keeping Ravi for a few days before taking him to mum and dad's."
"Oh okay. Hello Padma." Hermione tried to be cordial as she braced for whatever pity Padma was going to supply.
Padma gave her a quick hug and a sad look before turning to Ginny and whispering, "Are you running out of viable options for our poor, poor Hermione? Draco Malfoy?... Really? You couldn't find anyone else to see her up with?"
Ginny looked at her future sister-in-law with disgust.
"You shut your mouth before I hex you into oblivion, Padma. You think you're so special because you slept your way into my brother's heart? Well, you're not! And just because 'our poor, poor Hermione' has standards, you think you can look down on her!"
Padma's jaw dropped and Ron sighed as Harry tried to steer Ginny away from her.
"No Harry! Maybe it's the hormones, maybe I'm just sick of her always looking down her nose at my best friend but it needs to be said!"
Harry shot a desperate look at Hermione who interjected before things could get more heated.
"Ginny why don't you and I take Ravi and lay him down in Teddy's room," she said taking Ravi from Padma who had yet to recover from Ginny's outburst.
Hermione followed Ginny from the room as she continued to rant about "Rude witches who don't respect other people's homes."
Padma turned on Ron, "I told you your sister didn't like me," she said bracingly before plopping down into the nearest armchair.
"Padma, dear, you know she has a temper, why must you provoke her?" Ron asked as he took her hand in his.
Padma looked up at him and glared. "You always take her side!"
Draco coughed to remind them of his presence.
Ron, Harry and Padma looked over to him as he spoke to Harry.
"Harry you have a lovely home. Thank you for having me."
"Oh! Uh, yes. Thank you Draco. We'll have dinner just as soon as Ginny and Hermione come back."
An uncomfortable silence fell over the room again until Padma turned to Draco.
"So, Draco. What have you been up to since Hogwarts?"
"I'm a healer at St. Mungo's. That's how I ran into Harry and Ginny," he replied, grateful that she was trying to ease the palpable tension in the room.
Ron turned to Harry confusedly.
"When were you at St. Mungo's?"
"Uhhh...I'd better let Ginny tell you," Harry told him.
A few moments later Ginny re-entered the room with a forced smile on her face.
"I apologize Padma for threatening to hex you. It's been a rough day."
"Gin? When and why were you at St. Mungo's?" Ron asked his sister hesitantly, worried that she would explode at him next.
Her eyes snapped angrily at Harry. He shook his head and pointed at Draco who blushed. She sighed and walked over to the Christmas tree in the corner, picked up two gift wrapped boxes and shoved them into Padma and Ron's hands.
She walked over to the couch where Harry had sat down and stood next to him while he wrapped an arm around her waist and stroked her back in an effort to soothe her.
Ron and Padma looked at each other before turning their confused faces to Ginny.
"Don't just sit there! Open them!" She said with a little smile.
Ron got his open first and pulled out a shirt very similar to the one Ginny had given to Hermione that read World's Greatest Uncle. He looked over at Ginny, confused until he looked down at her stomach and saw the small bump, he glared at Harry.
"Been shagging my kid sister mate?" He narrowed his eyes and furrowed his brow.
"You can't be serious Ronald!" Ginny screamed at him.
"At least we had the sense to get married first unlike you and your who--"
"GINNY!" Harry cut her off and Draco coughed to cover his laugh.
Ron looked starting line. "Gin. I was kidding."
Ginny blushed and ran to hug her brother. Ron looked down at her with amusement in his eyes and kissed her forehead.
"Congrats you two. Hopefully the kid gets Harry's temperament."
They all laughed as Ron and Padma headed to the fireplace and disappeared into the green smoke a few moments later.
Ginny turned to her guests. "Dinner?"
