A place where only the strong will survive.
Chapter 1
It was dark as night ascended upon the 19th century foggy London. Almost every window was dark, except for a few where the light still illuminated from the candles inside the rooms. One such room was a nursery with pink walls, a closet full of clothes and a small shelf filled with what little toys there were.
Aside from that, a crib was placed near the closet. Inside it was a toddler, a girl with brunette hair with blue eyes, playing with stuffed animals of all kinds. The baby girl giggled as she innocently pulled the tail of a tiger, fully embraced with her innocent imagination as she did not notice the window opening, followed by a man wearing the clothes of the working class people. The girl noticed the man once he approached her crib as she chewed the stuffed black panther. Next, everything seemed to happen so quick for the girl as the man took her, along with her panther. They crossed the city before reaching a boat and rowing to a steamship with sails. When she began wailing for her mother, it was too late as she was put in a cage with other three children, with the kidnapper being paid by the crew right in front of her.
As the ship left the British Isles, the girl looked at the other kidnapped children, their eyes red and cheeks wet from the tears. There was a girl with dirty-blonde hair, a boy with his hair dark brown and slightly long and an auburn boy. The four began finding comfort in each other as the ship sailed.
It was raining heavily on a tropical island far, far away from mankind, as a storm reigned, but the sound of thunder was mixed with multiple roars and howls as the animals of Kipling Isle fought each other not for life, but for death. For generations, the animals were divided into factions of their kinds, which constantly fought against each other. Nobody knew why the wars began, nor that anyone really cared, for what mattered was the survival of their tribe. This night was no different than the other days and nights; wolves fought tigers, tigers fought elephants, elephants fought monkeys and apes, and primates fought the smaller animals, with a giant python snake trying to devour as much as possible.
An elephant roared in pain and anger as a tiger jumped on its back and merging its sharp fangs into the elephant's flesh, trying to knock the carnivore out of its back with its own trunk. An orangutan was hanging on the tree, throwing everything what it could find on the meerkats that ran beneath him. A wolf stood in front of a tiger, eager to protect its mate, while an elephant crushed a chimpanzee with one of its front feet while a meerkat was biting the snake. A bear was assisting the wolves in their fight against the tigers, only to be wrapped in coils by the snake. If not for the meerkats, the bear wouldn't have escaped the python's grip. Yet none of them noticed as a ship was approaching towards their island through the stormy ocean.
A loud thud was heard as the ship crashed into the rocks on the coast of the island, followed by an explosion, causing the animals to disperse in fear, forgetting about their bloody battles. They hid behind bushes and trees for some time, with the rain and thunder being the only sound. After some hesitance, the beasts emerged from their hiding places and approached what left of the ship. With a black panther being the first, the animals soon found four naked human toddlers wearing nothing; two boys and two girls. A tall boy with dark brown hair and a brunette girl, while the second boy had auburn hair and the other girl was dirty-blonde. They were holding their hands together, with their faces filled with tears and fear. Though, truth be told, the tallest boy tried to display some bravery in front of the animals that surrounded them. Just then, one of the tigers decided to jump at the four children. The four screamed, with the brown-haired boy embracing the brunette girl. They would have been killed if not for the panther as it stood between the tiger and them, roaring in anger. Before the tiger could answer, the panther stroke its face with its sharp claws, spilling blood on some of the leaves nearby. This lead to tiger streak's leader, a tiger who was surprisingly white, apart from his kin and his subordinates, who were as usual, red, to approach the panther.
"Bagheera," the white tiger roared. "You dare strike one of my royal tribe?"
"I will do more than that if you or you pack take one step closer." Bagheera, the black panther with yellow eyes answered.
"Surely, the ferocious Bagheera has not developed some sort of soft spot for these creatures that interrupt our grand battle." The tiger suggested mockingly as he was backed by his streak, the tigers snarling while he licked his lips. "Let us celebrate this respite with a feast, jungle sister. The littlest looks most delectable."
"I am not your sister, Shere Khan." Bagheera snarled at the tiger. "I care not for these creatures' lives, but they have done what no animal has been able to do since this battle began… they stopped the war. And for that, the arrival of these cubs should be seen as an omen. A punctuation to this endless, pointless fight."
"We will care for them. We will take them in. Teach them the laws of the jungle." A wolf answered to her, only for the white tiger to argue once more.
"And let you train an army to hunt us all down? Unacceptable, you murderous dog!"
"We will take care of the cubs in our own way." Shere Khan purred. As the wolf and tiger argued, an obese langur with golden fur appeared out of nowhere, behind the four naked toddlers. Hanging from a tree, he grabbed the nude baby boy with auburn hair.
"I'll take one!" he proudly exclaimed and before anyone could react, he pulled the boy with him up the tree before the two disappeared among trees. The rain continued to fall as Shere Khan looked at the remaining three.
"Hmmm. Despite his insanity, Bandar Louis has a point. Why should the wolves have them all?" Shere Khan suggested as he approached the three, which led to the naked toddler girl with dirty blonde hair to run away in fear as she cried. She was looking back, not seeing where she was running until she turned around and stopped, crying as she was scared by the gigantic size of the elephants in front of her.
"Do not look for help from the Payari, speck. We will have nothing to do with this." One of the elephants spoke. "This creature is much too small to be of import in Pyari matters."
With that, the elephants turned their backs to the naked girl and stomped away. The girl, being naked, trembled from the cold and fear as she was soaking from the heavy rain. She squirmed when meerkats appeared and surrounded her. Some of them approached her and climbed her nude body. The girl giggled as one of them sat on her head.
"If the great not want it, the small claim this one." One of the meerkats who watched, declared.
"The club be giant to the tribe Tavi. We take. We take." His fellow meerkat added. Soon, the naked girl followed the meerkats, no longer afraid of the other animals around. That was two, two more left. Knowing that, Shere Khan circled them before releasing a loud roar, causing the naked brunette girl to embrace the equally naked boy, closing her eyes. Shere Khan's eyebrows twitched as he watched the boy held the girl closer, as if trying to protect her, while trying to look brave in front of the beast that was right now superior in strength and size.
"This one is brave." An impressed Shere Khan noted. "We will take it."
"No!"
"Dog, I have had enough of you and your pack. After all have I lost…" Shere Khan snarled at the wolf, only for the pack leader to interrupt him.
"We have all lost much in this war!"
The two looked at each other with pure hatred and rage, which led to Bagheera interfere.
"Take the boy. If it is harmed…" she told the white tiger. "You will answer to me."
"Grrrr. It will be treated as royalty." Shere Khan growled in response. Happy that at least he will get the apparently stronger one, Shere Khan gently grabbed the naked girl and gave it to the wolf.
"Here, dog. Take the smallest." Khan mocked the canine. "It will need the most care. The runt will most likely not survive the night."
With that, Shere Khan gently took the naked boy and went off with his tigers following him. The wolves left the battlefield too as both factions ignored the cries and wails of the two naked toddlers, longing for each other. It was around the middle of the night and the storm was still raging, the rain lashing and the lightning bolting, followed by thunder.
