Breaking Heads
XxX
The flowers were gone the next day. Someone had either stolen them or discarded them like they were trash. He didn't particularly care which one it was, because the end result was the same, but he was going to rain hellfire down on whoever dared to touch her flowers. Hellfire.
How dare they touch something that had made her smile?
"Who's been messing with Sergeant Makepeace's desk?"
Blank looks and denials surrounded him. He slammed down a pile of files and was gratified at the amount of people who jumped. "I'm not kidding here, if anyone has taken something off her desk I'm going to personally –"
"You're going to personally what?" Harry asked as she walked through the door. "Isn't it a little bit early for you to be making this much noise?"
He ignored her attempted humour. "I'm going to personally break some heads, that's what I'm going to do." He pointed towards the empty spot on her desk. "Some asshole took your flowers."
She was all calm and collected as she settled into her chair. Like she didn't even care. Like they hadn't meant anything. "Yes, I know."
She knew? Where was her outrage? "You know? You don't seem upset about it. I thought you liked them."
Harry gave him a long hard look. "I do. That's why I took them home, so I could watch them bloom. They're next to my bed."
Next to her bed. Where she slept. Maybe naked. "Oh. Well." His rage suddenly deflated but he still glared at the room until they stopped looking at him and went back to their work. "That's alright then."
"You were really threatening everyone over some missing flora?"
He shrugged. It sounded stupid when she put it like that. But yeah. He had. And he'd do it again. Because she didn't smile enough, so anything he could do to encourage that, he would actively fight to protect. And if that meant getting a little physical, then so be it. Her smile was worth it.
"Don't you think that's a little extreme?"
Was she teasing him? Yep, she was trying to hide it, but he could see the twinkle in her eyes. "You think?"
"Maybe just a tad." She paused. "But then again, if someone had stolen my flowers I would want heads to roll. Or break."
He cracked his knuckles and flexed. "I got you covered, little lady."
"That's why you're my favourite head breaker."
