I was able to get out of town pretty easy. I had to stop once to change Ethan and once to feed him. I was able to drive half the way to Atlanta before I stopped for the night a abandoned rest stop that had been closed. I had to move the cones out of the road before i could pull the Rv into it. I put the cones back to keep other people from stoping and doing the same thing I was doing. I notice that after about 10 minuets of being there some one else had the same idea and were pulling in a couple parking spaces down from us. I looked to Matt then nodded towards the bedrooms and he nodded grabbing Ethan and pulling Sam along with him into them. I heard the first door close and then the second so I knew that he had gone into the second room.
I had given him his gun and silencer earlier after leaving the gas station so he could protect his brothers if he needed to. I grabbed my bow along with my gun before putting it on my hip beside my handgun before looking out the side window to find a couple other vehicles had also pulled in. One was another Rv and it had a older man with two blond females. There was a guy wearing police ball-cap with a brown hair women and what looked to be her son. A church van had a black couple and a asian getting out. There were a few others that I couldn't see from where I was standing.
The Guy with the police hat, the black guy from the church van, and the asian all headed towards my Rv with weapons in hand and drawn. I drew put my bow on my back before grabbing my hunting rifle from beside the door where I put it loading 5 rounds into it. I loaded the first one into the barrel and cocked it so it was ready to fire if need be. The were now surrounding the Rv. I was glad that I had got rid of the second door and replaced it with a closet instead. I could hear them talking about checking to see if they could use the Rv to sleep in since a Rv this size could sleep 6 easy.
I waited until they had spread out around the Rv so there was just the asian standing at the door. I opened it silently when he wasn't looking and put my gun to his head taking the baseball bat from his hand. "If you make a single sound or move a inch I will kill you nod if you understand." I told him deadly and he nodded yes.
"Good Now you are going to turn around and we are going to go meet your friends." I told him pushing him forward so that I could shut the Rv door and lock it so no one was getting inside.
I lead him around the side making sure his body blocked mine before rounding the front of the Rv I was meet with gasps and yells for a man name Glenn and Shane. I didn't really care who they were I just wanted them away from my Rv and boys. I notice the two guys coming from behind the Rv which would put them directly in front of me. I had a high power rifle while they had handguns and a baseball bat. I had put the baseball bat in front of his throat so that all I had to do was pull up on it and it would choke the guy out. The guy in the police hat started demanding me to put my weapons down and let Glenn go or he would shoot.
"Why don't you put your weapons down." I demanded using my Sargent voice which scared Glenn because shiver went up his spine after saying it.
"No I don't think I will so you go ahead and do it or I will shoot." The white guy said again.
"If you don't back up I will kill him. Put your weapons down and we can talk or I promise you I will kill all of you if I have to." I threatened him squeezing the bat making Glenn choke and start trying to grab the bat with his hands.
The black guy lowered his bat when he saw Glenn gasping for air. The police guy just lowered his gun a little so I let up on the pressure so Glenn could breathe again. It was then that I heard what I was hoping not to hear at this moment in time. I heard Ethan crying from inside the Rv and then Sam's voice asking where mommy was at. I saw the shock on the men faces and took that to my advantage I hit Glenn in the throat making him double over gasping for air as I quickly and quietly ran to the black guy kicking his legs out from under him making him fall to his knees before I hit him over the head disorienting him as I ran and put the gun to the third guy head.
"I suggest you take your men and leave while you are still alive." I told him
"Now Now lady we were just camping for the night." He said
"No you were trying to take My Rv and I won't let you get your hands on it even if I have to kill you myself." I told him backing off and letting him up off his knees on to his feet just as the rest of the group arrived to see what was going on.
"What do you think your doing." A brown hair female Screeched at me.
"Protecting what's mine. Now get out of here before I kill you all." I said as I head peaked out of the Rv door.
"Mom Ethan ready to eat and won't take his bottle." Matt said with his gun raised in on hand and Ethan in his other.
"Okay Matt I'm coming I was just telling these people they won't welcome near my Rv." I told Matt backing up and keeping my gun aimed towards the crowd of people.
"Wait We didn't mean to scare you we thought that a walker might be in there or supplies." Glenn said holding his throat rubbing it.
"Yeah well when 3 armed men approached your home and you have kids your trying to protect and keep safe forgive me for doing what you have to do to protect them." I said taking Ethan from his brother along with his bottle.
"We didn't know any one was in there we are sorry for scaring you." The black guy said being helped up by his lady friend.
"I'm Ellen this is Ethan, that's Matt and Sam" i said pointing towards where Sam had joined his brother at the door but was behind him.
"Now will you leave me and kids alone or am I going to have to shoot you." I asked the Shane guy who had gone back over to the brown hair woman who was still glaring at me while holding on to her son close to her chest.
"Yeah we will leave you alone but I want to talk more in the morning." shane said before leading his small group back over their cars.
I walked into the Rv shutting the door behind me and locking it. I put all the blinders on the windows to the other group couldn't peak inside. I burped Ethan before going to change his diaper. After that I grabbed a two boxes of mac and cheese and two cans of peas. I warmed the peas up in one pot with some butter, salt and pepper. I boiled water for the mac and cheese noodles in another pot. I waited for the water to boil before adding the noodles and letting them cook for two minuets before draining them. I then added the cheese powder and a little milk, salt and pepper into the pan mixing it up before adding in the peas and giving it a another good mix.
I got three bowls and spoons out of a box and dished out food for all of us. I placed them down on the table in front of where the boys were sitting at the booth.I sat beside Matt after turning on season 1 episode 1 of NCIS into the dvd player before joining the boys at the table to watch it. I ate with Ethan in my arms he was also watching the Tv. After we ate I picked up the dishes while Matt watched more of NCIS and Sam colored at the booth in one of his coloring books. I started unpacking some of the kitchen boxes putting everything away where it would go. I put the empty box to the side before reaching for the next one.
The boxes that had movies and tv's series dvd's out the box putting them into one of lower cabinets so that the boys could reach it. I was able to fit all them in two cabinets and still had some space for more when I found them during scavenging. I then pulled out the booth seat that Sam wasn't sitting in and started unloading his box of toys into it. I stacked the coloring books he wasn't using and extra boxes of crayons into it. I had made a sign that fit on the front of the box so that the boys would know which one was theirs. I had Sam move to the other seat so that I could put all of Matt's toys, books, and school supplies into his box. I took the empty boxes and broke them down before taking them and fitting them in the bottom of closet.
It was now getting late so I opened the boxes of summer clothes putting them into the boys drawls. I put the winter clothes boxes into the bottom of my closet to unpack when winter came around. I did the same with my clothes. Ethan started crying from where he was laying in his moses basket. I walked into the living area and took him out putting him in Matt's arms so that he could watch more Tv and feed Ethan at the same time which he was happy to do just that. Sam was done coloring by now so I made him put away his coloring books and crayons into this box.
I had to the boys take shower and changed them into PJ's before putting them in their bunks and got a book out of the bin of night time stories at the end of bed. I read them a Harry potter book until they were asleep. Ethan had fallen asleep before I had given them a shower after I fed him his night time bottle. I laid his moses basket on my bed before checking to make sure everything was locked up and turned off before going to take a shower and changed my self. I had started wearing pants with pockets to bed along with sleeping with a knife under my pillow. I closed the doors to both rooms so that if someone did get into the Rv I would hear them trying to open the doors.
I woke up during the night to feed Ethan and change him before checking on everything. I saw that the other group had put some one on watch but he was asleep and it was almost 5:00 already so I got dressed and put my hiking boots on and made sure the boys were safely in bed before putting up the safety rails on the edge of their beds. I put an asleep Ethan in his carseat and buckled him in before covering him up. I then made three bottles and put them in the diaper bag. I then got in the divers seat of the Rv and turned it on. I pulled out of the rest stop.
I was thinking of places that had woods, close to cities to get supplies but far enough away that you wouldn't have to worry about the walkers, water and had space to set up camp. The first place that came to mind was a Quarry just outside Atlanta and it was high enough up that you could see anybody coming from miles away and would make it harder on the walkers to walk up hill. I used back roads to get there knowing they would be less clogged and not as many people. I had decided to not go to the military base and ignore all farther orders the military gave me if there were any to come. I had to keep my kids safe first and I just hoped that Michael would understand me abandoning my country.
I had been driving for about 3 hours when Matt came from the bedroom to find me driving listening to music off my phone. I notice that he was still half asleep. I smiled at him and he smiled back before going back to bed. I had to stop an hour later to feed Ethan and change him. Sam had gotten up during this so I put in Spongebob for him to watch. I cut him up an apple to snack on and did the same for Matt just putting it in the fridge. I was able to miss almost all the traffic but came across lots of walkers along the way. I saw an abandoned hunting store about 5 minuets from the Quarry so I stopped plus I hadn't seen a single walker for miles Matt was up by now.
"Matt you have your gun and knife right." I asked him grabbing two empty backpacks.
"Yeah Mom why you going in for supplies." He asked me.
"Yeah buddy it's a hunting store so it will have bows, arrows, guns, ammo, camping gear, cooking supplies, even gas, and water containers." i told him
"Can you find me bow Momma please your promised to get me one for christmas this year." Matt said begging.
"Sure if I can find one. Now don't leave the Rv no matter what. Keep the doors locked and most importantly take care of your brothers." I told him as I kissed him on the top of the head.
"I will Momma." He siad
I saw that the store had already been raided once since the walker inside was dead. I went over to the hunting section opening my bag putting extra bow strings into my bag first, oil, cleaning rags, gun silencers, arrow as many as I could fit. I also got several first aid kits. I got some water jugs putting them by the door. I grabbed some gas jugs to. I found some more ammo for our hunting rifle and hand guns. I grabbed a couple extra of those to. I grabbed a large family tent putting it on my shoulder. I carried the first load of supplies out to the Rv handing to Matt who was standing at the Rv door. He put it aside to be put up later. He was smart and had boxes ready for me to dump my bags into. I then went back in. I grabbed all of us a sleeping bag and a few extra.
I found both boys some hiking boots, winter coats, Sam some more coloring books. I grabbed some rope, fish string, hooks, heavy duty socks. This store had everything. It was clear that someone had been in here before us but they only took the basic tent, sleeping bags, lanterns, batteries, food, water, and cooking gear. I found two machetes, ax's, and flashlights. I got everything I needed and some things I got because they were there. I took the second load out to the Rv and got in adding the rest of the supplies into half full boxes. I had got enough supplies to last us a while as long as we got food more food soon. I then started up the Rv and drove off towards the quarry.
It was about 10:30 when we arrived at the quarry there was one other tent there. It was two older men one had a crossbow and the other had a hunting rifle. They looked like low class or rednecks as I called them. They didn't seemed to care that I was there at all. I heard Ethan start whimpering to eat. I grabbed his bottle and him before getting out the Rv. I left Matt and his brother Sam inside the Rv. The two men were cleaning squirrels on a piece of wood. I stopped a good bit in front of their camping area.
"I'm Ellen I was hoping that me and my kids could camp here for a bit." i asked them.
"Sure just stay out of way and try on and don't expect us to be baby sitter" The older one said while the younger one grunted.
"Thanks so how is the hunting going I was thinking about heading out with the boys later." I asked them.
"Good" The younger one grunted to me.
I walked back over to the Rv. I went inside and found the boys watching Tv. They had changed what they were watch and now were on some talking animal show. I went over to fridge pulling out the packet of thawed out deer meat that was in there and fried some of it up before adding some peas, corn, and baked beans to it in larger pan. I added some salt, pepper, and ketchup to it. I let is cooked down for about an hour before adding some water. I didn't know what it would taste like but I was good with just coming up with things and more times then not they turned out good. Ethan was now crying for more food but it wasn't time yet. If I fed him now it would mess up his schedule so I gave him next best thing to milk.
I gave him some 100% apple juice I had leftover in the fridge and added some water to stretch it out longer. I was glad that I had listen to my military instincts and went shopping before all this started. I had stocked up canned fruits, beans, veggies, milk, rice, noodles, potatoes, carrots, lunch meat, meat, frozen apple, orange, and grape juice. I had bought 8 cartoons of eggs, 6 gallons of milk, 20 packets of bacon, 10 bags of cheese, and lots and lots of ketchup, mustard, honey mustard, mayo, butter, flour, salt, pepper, sugar, and spices.
I had lots of storage built into the Rv so that i could fit everything into it. I had a regular size fridge and Freezer combo, I had taken out the tub in the bathroom replacing it with a large shower and storage are from floor to ceiling. I also had bed area that hang over the truck turned into full out pantry and storage area. I had made sure to close the wall off so the access was through a door that I kept a pad lock on. I also replaced the J-cube futon with top bunk with bunkbeds in the bedroom. The dinette seating had storage built in under and above it. I had added storage to the bunk-room where me and the boys slept.
I had given each boy free range to decorate their bunkbed area. Sam had picked dinosaurs themed and had a sheets, bedspread, throw cover, and matching pillow cases. I had even got a dinosaurs shaped pillow. Matt on the other hand had got The Woods Biohazard Green bedding. I had made Ethan's bedding a Woodland themed blankets. While mine was blue and green area. I tried to personalize each of the boys bunks to their likings so that they felt they had their own space in the Rv. I had Matt's old blue cammo bedding set packed away for when Sam or Ethan when they got older if they wanted it. I also had some spare grey and brown sheets if we needed them. I had tried to make the Rv as homey as i could with the budget I had which wasn't much.
I took the tent, sleeping bags, some of the canned goods that were put into two boxes along with some snack foods on top. Another box was of medical supplies, and the last box was of toiletries like tampons, shampoo, conditioner, soap, washrags, body wash, and toilet paper. I had a another box that had garbage bags, spare kitchen supplies, and other odds and ends out to put in the external storage on the Rv. I notice that the Dixon's as the introduced themselves to me had gone off hunting again. After putting everything away. It was now lunch time so I got bowls of the soup that I had made earlier out for the boys and me. I put them down on the table before grabbing some water for us.
I moved Ethan over to the couch since he was still asleep and due for another feeding for a few hours. After eating I washed, dried, and put the dishes back where they belonged. I put the leftover food into a pan that could fit in the fridge. I then sat down after putting in NCIS and we watched some more. It was about 5 now and we had finished off the leftover lunch and Ethan had been fed and was playing with his toys which were hanging from his play mat that I had set in the spare space in the floor. I heard the bombs before I felt them. I grabbed Ethan and yelled at the boys to get out of the Rv.
"Matt, Sam outside now get to the clearing." I shouted at them scaring them but the listen and I saw that the Dixon's were standing at the edge of camp skinning a dear.
"Merle Daryl there bombing the city." I yelled over to them as a another round of bombs hit shaking the ground. We could now see the smoke coming up from the city from the clearing.
"Momma look Mr. Dixon got a deer how cool." Matt said walking over to it.
"Matt leave them alone please we don't want to bother them." I told him as he stared asking questions and watching Daryl skin it.
"Hey Matt be nice and go get one of my spice bags that I use for our deer meat will you." I asked him letting Sam go back to play with his toys in the Rv.
I took it over to Daryl with Matt beside. "Mr. Daryl here this is what Momma uses on our deer meat." He said as he started listing off the spices that were written on the pice of paper inside the bag.
"Thanks sugar tits." Merle said walking over and taking it from Matt while talking to him about hunting.
"Momma are you going to go catch a deer to." Sam asked me holding on tight to my leg and wasn't letting go.
"I don't know kiddo probably not. I can't leave you boys alone with just Matt with shit hitting the fan plus then bombs would had scared off most of the deer anyways." I told him bending down and picking up to putting him on my hip while Ethan was on my other.
"Come on guys let's leave the Dixon's to cook their deer it's almost bed time for you." I said putting Sam down and leading him back over to the Rv while Matt followed close behind.
"I have canned goods, rice, pasta if you want to do a trade." I told them before walking back over to our Rv with Matt in toll.
