Chapter 1 - Attic

Josie watched as all the adults in her life decided they were going to play poker and leave her to her own devices. Josie preferred it this way. Ever since her mother and grandmother passed away her father had gotten so protective of her and her elder sister, Julliard. This was her favorite time. She would sneak up to the attic and continue to rummage around through the boxes. As soon as the first hand was playing, she went upstairs and right up into the attic. She was so curious about the box with hay in it. She flipped the switch and lit up the hot room. Her green-eyed gaze darted around the neatly organized room. She could tell her father had been up there. His logbook was open on the very box she was after. He hadn't been through much if his entry page was anything to go by.

She found all the sketches and the old leather-bound journal. Those were coming with her. They weren't in his log so he would never know they were gone. The box she wanted to sift through had a number on the side. It wasn't in the book so hopefully she could examine what she wanted to. Placing the book to the side she opened the lid of the crate. Moving hay around she dug into it. There wasn't much in there. There were some crosses, looking to be made from silver. A small leather bag with an embroidered cross on it. She opened it and to her surprise there was 6 smooth stones. Maybe stones. Pearls, possibly. They were slightly pointed on one end and a bit jagged on the other. The longer she looked at the more the more unsettled she became that they may be teeth. Josie placed them back in the bag and into her back jean pocket. This was creepy.

She found nothing else of note. Carefully with the bag, the journal, and the sketches she hightailed it down to her room. The doorbell rang and her father's voice carried up the stairs just as she opened her bedroom door.

"It's Rebekah." he said.

"Thanks, Mr. Emerson." Rebekah's voice came with the sound of footsteps on the stairs.

Josie stood at the door until Rebekah was on the landing. She waved her over. Her best friend hurried into her room and Josie closed the door and locked it.

"Didn't know you were coming, not even a text." Josie said looking at her phone.

"I didn't either until my feet came to your door." Rebekah stated and looked directly at the sketches, "What are these?"

"My dad had them in the attic. He and Uncle Ed and Alan brought them from that old cave at Hudson's Bluff." she explained.

"Cool. Find anything else?" Beck's asked.

"Yeah, I'm not 100% sure what these are but... I... think they're teeth." she answered and pulled out the bag.

Rebekah took the bag and dumped the contents out on her palm. Two of the teeth came straight pointed side down into her palm, planting themselves deep into her palm. Beck's yelped and dropped the other teeth. Josie was wide eyed and tried to pluck them from her friend's palm. All she succeeded in doing was slicing her fingers open on them. Her bay windows over her window seat slammed open and there was a loud revving of motorcycles, whooping of male voices and one singular male laughing mockingly. It scared them and they screamed.

Her door burst open as her family careened into her room. Her father gathered her into his arms. Her uncles rushed to her window looking around frantically and Aunt Zoey frantically checked Rebekah over to see if she was alright.

"It was them!" Edgar shouted.

"Did you see anyone?" Alan directed at the teens.

"No." they both said.

"But we heard them. It felt like someone was here with us." Rebekah said almost breathless.

Josie nodded vigorously. She had noticed that Becks hadn't said a word about the teeth or what they had done to them. She needed to know why. Becks wasn't one to keep secrets. The girls sat quietly on Josie's bed as they watched the adults scurry around.

"Send them to Mike." Alan said suddenly, all eyes on him.

"Mike and Star are in Hawaii. The kids are home though." Sam said to him.

"I'll call Michael and Star. They'll want to know." Zoey said and began dialing on her cell.

She left them room to talk to them. Sam called Rebekah's parents and asked them to allow Beck's to summer with them. They were going to Luna Bay to visit family and Josie would appreciate the company since all of her cousins were older than her. They agreed. Sam started throwing Josie's clothes into her suitcases. He flew around her room, and she just watched him. She was getting angrier by the minute the more she watched him. Becks held her hand to help her stay calm. She squeezed her hand in turn and then stood. She grabbed other essentials to pack such as her hygiene equipment and her phone charger and of course her small makeup bag and the stuff she had taken from the attic. No sooner had she finished that Sam was ushering them out the door and into the Jeep, heading for Beck's house, which was the next block over.

Her mother came to the Jeep with about three suitcases and a small duffel full of her own essentials. Her parents kissed and hugged her goodbye. And waved as they drove off. The Luna Bay drive would be a few hours and it was already getting late. Becks drifted off shortly after the drive started. Just as Josie was drifting off Becks jerked up right. Edgar pulled a knife quickly from his position in the passenger front seat, looked over at Alan who had pulled Josie over into him trying to protect her.

"Little Emerson" a voice that was not Becks came from her lips.

Sam pulled over quickly. Terror on his face, as well as Alan and Edgar's.

"David!" Sam answered looking into the rearview mirror.

"Mmmm, that's right. Run Run as fast as you can but you will not get away from me."

"Leave my family alone!" Sam seethed.

Beck's arm moved up and her hand moved in front of her face. David's blue eyes glowed in her sockets instead of her own chocolate eyes. Her plump lips parted, and fangs slid down. In a flash her hand moved, and her petite body lunged towards Josie. Josie shrieked and Alan tried to fight Becks possessed body from them. Josie heard her father and Edgar yelling and then red-hot heat blossomed at the side of her throat. Josie strained against her friend and when Becks pulled back, she looked into the eyes that did not belong to her friend. A smirk came across Becks's lips and then they descended upon hers, giving her a fiery kiss.

"You taste so sweet. You will be mine, baby." the other voice, David, spoke, "The little witch's body came in handy."

Josie was confused then she looked around her. Her father and Uncles were frozen. Edgar had his dagger raised and her father was turned, coming out of his seat. And Alan was frozen with his arms out in a shoving motion.

"Who are you?" she asked him, shaking and touching her neck.

There before Josie, Becks's body disappeared, and a man appeared where she had been. He had beautiful eyes, so icy blue. She would have admitted that he was handsome in a rugged sort of way if she was not afraid. He was suddenly in her face, holding her chin, literally smelling her. When he pulled back and smiled, Josie froze as his teeth and face shifted.

"I am David Powers, leader of The Lost Boys. Your daddy knows all about me." Daivd said to her sending shivers down her spine, "How old are you?"

"I.. I... I just turned 19." she stuttered trying to be as small as possible.

"Same age then." he said and then grimaced, "Well, Josie, it's time for me to go. I will be seeing you again. Wait for me."

Then he was gone, and everything was in motion again and Beck's was slumped over in her seat. Edgar recovered first from being frozen and was putting his dagger away by time Alan and Sam had their wits about them. Beck's slumbered on blissfully unaware of what had transpired around her and with her own body. That was going to be one hell of a story to tell her. Becks was going to be so pissed!

AN: Yeah and that's it for this chapter.
