Teeth

Summary: Kurt and Tina are vampires who have been traveling together for centuries, trying to fit into the world around them. This time they settle in Lima, Ohio.

AN: I really never thought of Glee as something that could lend itself to supernatural elements. Sure, I enjoy reading ZOMBIE stories within the Glee universe and have read a few fantasy situations which were written well, but I never really thought I would be writing a fantasy/supernatural/sci-fi world for Glee, didn't think there was an idea strong enough for it. And... yet... here I am with the most basic concept but this idea came to me and kept bothering me and wouldn't leave me alone until I wrote it down. The concept is basic but I don't know... I like it and it plays on bits from the show and yet is totally not what I typically post and yet is still totally what I normally post, lol. I took the basic concept and I turned it on it's ear... I hope? At the very least, I hope you enjoy it even if you don't agree. I have personally never read anything like this. :)

AN2: So, I know this is going to be out in time for Halloween (at least the 1st chapter), it really wasn't meant for that, it just happened to be sparked around the same time. I had been wondering about a possible supernatural themed Glee fic for awhile and Lady Gaga and Hillywood and another Youtube Channel I was watching talking about Vampire Diaries actually culminated into this idea. I have not seen Vampire Diaries. I have only seen that video of commentary of pieces of the first and last episode (not even showing much of the show at all) and the Hillywood video and that's all I know about it. This is totally not at all inspired by Vampire Diaries nor even really the Hillywood video but more Lady Gaga's song all on it's own, lol and maybe another song along the same lines that I discovered this year. Then a few more songs that I found that were titled Teeth and I was set and on my way to writing this. Also my vampire lore is sadly lacking, it includes but not limited to BTVS, Angel, parts of Moonlight (that was the name of the show, right?), True Blood, Twilight and a version or two of Dracula movies and a couple of movies with Kate Beckensdale (I totally spelled her name wrong and am too lazy at the moment to look it up) which includes the series that she did and whatever the movie was with Van Helsing in it, oh and I guess Legends of Tomorrow/Van Helsing and Sandman the TV show must also be included. I'm sure I'm missing something. That all being said though, I'm picking and choosing what I want and adding in other stuff because other have and I can too. :D

AN3: I might revisit this story in the future and completely revamp it, lol, look what I did there. I have done that to other stories in the past where I liked what I did but later I was like... nope this set up/style of writing would work much better. I have a nugget of that in my brain right now but I also like what I've written/want to release it... So I'm just warning you that this story in 10 years might look totally different (Haha). Ooh so many inside jokes.

AN4 Also, please don't be offended by this opening chapter, I could see the offense being for a few different things but remember these are characters who are 100s of years old. They mature and age and keep with the times somewhat and at the same time some things are deeply rooted in them and take longer to adjust to current political and cultural climates.

Chapter 1

Setting Up Shop

Kurt turned over yet another body, pulling the hair out of the face to scrutinize it closely.

"Ugh, not a single one of them are Asian." Tina groaned in disgust, kicking at a mangled can on the dirty floor. "We're just going to have to keep moving."

"On to another town." Kurt agreed a bit morose, they'd been traveling for months now. They had only had to to do this a handful of times before when times were tough and they had to stay on the move to avoid capture. Months of travel was mentally wearing but at least these days food supply was nearly endless. That made a nice change from previous moves.

"This place would have been perfect. They have no idea what a street camera is." Tina crossed her arms over her chest. Technology was making it increasingly difficult to continue their way of life.

Kurt moved another body and suddenly grinned over his shoulder, catching Tina's attention. "Not all hope is lost yet. Come take a look."

Tina was by his side before he even finished speaking and she crouched down next to him, a faint twist to her lips. "But she's Vietnamese, I'm Korean."

"I know, but we're low on options here." Kurt gestured to the den of overdosed teens and young adults. There were a few older ones in the mix too, people who just couldn't deal and had taken their own lives either by accident or purpose.

Tina frowned. "I'm not going to be able to pass."

"I think you'll be fine." His voice was knowing, and Tina knew exactly why because she had already come to the same conclusion. Kurt looked at the boy who had been laying on top of the Asian girl. He wouldn't do at all, he was a completely different body shape and height, far too tall for Kurt to try and match. He glanced around the room again, there were surely some possible contender for him.

It didn't have to be a perfect match for either of them, they'd even swapped genders at times to fit into the narrative at a given moment. They'd pushed the boundaries even further in getting the locals to believe them. It didn't fully matter though, not with the way they did it, the way they worked. Still, if the opportunity presented itself to be their most authentic selves, to have the disparity be the smallest possible, they took it.

Kurt frowned at the assortment, what a waste. Still, it provided them with shade, so it wasn't completely pointless of these kids tossing their lives away. He spied a boy of similar height sitting in a corner of the room, curled in on himself, hiding away from the others here, still an outcast amongst the fringe. "Found mine." Kurt nodded toward the boy and Tina frowned.

"You are not going to be treated well." She foretold, the boy's posture a dead giveaway for the future.

"I rarely am." Kurt gave a small shrug, that was true enough. Usually they tried to infiltrate at a younger age and have his youthful looks be less of a hindrance but it didn't always work out that way. It didn't matter though, Kurt knew how to make himself appear aged. Tina didn't have to go through with as much deception with her appearance as they stayed since she was blessed with the ability to displace guesses, she was timeless, she could pass as a 12 year old or a 30 year old and all with just a subtle stroke of eyeliner and change of speech and body language. However, younger or older and it was a bit harder to mask or convince. Kurt had helped with that on occasion, especially the older version, but by then they usually figured it was time to go on to the next place.

Their dog nudged Kurt in the thigh with it's head and when Kurt looked down, the dog shook it's head, disagreeing with the plan. Kurt ran his fingers through the long silky fur. "It'll be ok, Bass. What's the likelihood this will be the worst place we ever end up in? The most danger we'll be in?"

The dog gave a little whine, not liking the jinx Kurt had just uttered out loud. Tina crossed herself three times and spat to try and undo it. Kurt didn't believe in curses or jinx. So instead, he just reached out, lifted the boy's hand and bit into his flesh, allowing the fading memories to play out in his mind.

Tina sighed and did the same for her doppelganger of the week. Bass just laid down by Kurt's knee, his head resting on his arms and watched over the two of them with as worried of an expression a dog could muster. Still, he waited them both out and kept an eye and ear out for danger.

Kurt finished first since he had a headstart and he sat back onto his heels and licked his lips. He ruffled Bass's fur and scratched behind his ears. "His mom is dead, his dad spends most of his time at his shop. I'll be left alone at least at home but you were both right, he's sort of the main target for bullying."

"Only Rachel's bullied worse." Tina said, finishing his thoughts as the stolen memories from the girl ended with this warehouse and Tina was able to participate in the conversation once more. "Though, my host was just mainly overlooked and forgotten. Not a great life for her either, except for maybe the guy she ended up here with but even he turned out to be a loser and creep and responsible for her death. I had to look deep to even recall a single interaction between the two of us. I was so consumed with my own life, I couldn't even see your pain." Tina often got confused between herself and the blood she just drank and the memories that went with it. She knew what was one verses the other but right after, she confused the two, merged them into one entity. It didn't last long usually.

Kurt stroked Bass's head some more. Bass had crawled over and just laid his head on Kurt's thigh, looking up at him longingly. "Come on, we've got a home to make ourselves in." He teased, he'd played the corny joke before.

"What a dad you'd have been." Tina gave a high pitched giggle.

Kurt rolled his eyes, that would never have been in the cards for him had he lived long enough to even start thinking about that in his original lifetime. "Probably as good as you'd have been as a mother."

Tina stopped, paused to think about that and then grinned. "Thank you!" It really had been a backhanded compliment, she'd been with him long enough to be able to see those easily and clearly. Tina had been of age when she'd traded existences, she was actually nearly a decade older than Kurt was in terms of years as a human. They were nearly the same age when it came to this life, they'd been made within minutes of each other in the same back alley. They had been forged in fire together and hadn't left each other for long since.

Bass nudged Kurt's hand for more pets and Kurt complied but eventually pushed to his feet, Bass at his side, his shoulders on the same level as Kurt's hips. "All right, time to go." He looked around once more in dismay. "I hate being around all this death."

"Such pointless death too." Tina agreed and took his other hand in her's. "Will you drop me off first?"

"Of course." It was not only the 'gentlemanly' thing to do, but also, he had Bass with him on the remainder of the walk. It was not something either of them needed but they always held out for the very last moment to part. The first few hours in a new place, alone, were always the most dangerous. There were always possibilities of things not being passed on in the memories, things that glitched or didn't make it through. There could always be a surprise waiting for them. It hadn't happened often, but it was often enough that it was always a concern and they were hyper-vigilant.

Tina's 'parents' weren't home when they got there, Tina had pilfered the keys off the dead girl's body and let herself in. They looked around the property together and then Tina hugged Kurt tightly before slowly shutting the door on him and relocking the door.

Kurt headed to his own new home, finding the key where it was always was. He pulled it from the hiding place, unlocked his new front door and rehid the key. He took a deep breath before pushing the door open. It was already pre-furbished.

He held the door open for Bass and headed straight to the stairs leading to the basement, Bass trotting along beside him, his nails clicking against the concrete steps that had never been finished. So many things in this house were left undone with a plan but no follow through, not after the mother's death, at least. Kurt felt badly for the father, to lose both lives so quickly, so pointlessly and in such horrible ways. The bodies in the warehouse would lay untouched and only more would add to the story. Sometimes he and Tina would give their new hosts a proper burial but it wasn't always feasible.

He let Bass into the basement bedroom and Bass quickly jumped up and curled into a ball on the bed. Kurt chuckled and ran his fingers through Bass' fur once more and bent to drop a kiss onto the top of his head. "I'm just going to take a shower." Bass let out a little whine and Kurt laughed again. "Let's see how we settle in first, ok?"

A small growl but Bass settled down and laid his head on his paws, his eyes followed Kurt's movements for a brief time before he closed his eyes. Bass was tired and was definitely the easiest to wear out during these moves.

Kurt showered quickly then sorted through the clothes in his new closet. He quickly tossed aside a few pieces that he earmarked as donation. His host certainly had interesting taste, not exactly his own but also not all horrible. There were certainly a few pieces he would have purchased himself.

There was a lot of quirk and experimentation and fashion-interest in these pieces but weren't quite as stylish or put together as Kurt would have chosen. Still, he could still be tailored and fashionable while adding a few of the quirky pieces in. It would now have some sophistication included and he'd fit the clothing properly to his body. Thankfully their shoe size was the same. Over time he could slowly weed out more of the quirky pieces and incorporate more high end fashion and timelessness he personally preferred. There were a few things he did appreciate from this era of clothing and styling and he had updated his own mental wardrobe to include newer pieces. The skinny jean was definitely one of his preferences when he went more 'casual'.

Bass' ears flattened against his skull and he let out a small growl that wasn't like his earlier one. Then Kurt heard the door open and close. "Kid? I'm home!" The boy's father called out and Kurt took another deep and steadying breath.

His words were directed toward Bass even as he steeled himself. This would be the ultimate test. "Show time."
