"Aunt Beckyyyy!"
Rebecca awoke to hear the muffled sound of DJ's voice coming from somewhere downstairs. The tired mother turned over onto her side, trying to pretend that she did not hear her niece calling for her.
"Aunt Beckyyyy, Uncle Jesse is on the phone for you from Japannnn!" Donna Jo's voice sounded throughout the house again.
That woke her aunt immediately and she sat up in the bed, yawning with a stretch before she stood up in her white pajamas with blue pin stripes vertically placed on the top and bottom. She was standing for about thirty seconds before the thought of hearing her husband's voice gave her a boost of energy and she happily started to rush down the attic stairs and then made her way down into the kitchen to take the telephone from her niece and place it up to her ear with a smile. "Hi, honey." She said excitedly.
"Hey, Beck. I've got news. Great news!" Jesse told her on the other end of the phone.
"What kind of news?" She responded.
"What do you mean what kind of news? I just said great. Did I not say great?"
"No. No. You did." She chuckled a bit before yawning and running her fingers through her hair. "I just meant what is it about?"
"Oh! Well, it's about the tour. And I want you and the boys to come out here for the weekend to see the surprise."
"Surprise? Jesse, what do you mean? The boys have plans to spend the weekend with my parents. You know that. They'll only be in San Francisco a few more days." Becky reminded him.
"Oh, that's right. But Beck, you at least gotta come over here. I'll have Danny give you the plane ticket and pay him back as soon as I get back. Please? It's so important to me." Her husband practically begged. "You will flip once you see the surprise."
"Alright, Jesse. I'll come to Japan. But not just because of the surprise. But because I want to see my husband whom I haven't seen in almost a month."
"Yes! Yes, Becky! I'm so happy you're coming! I'm so happy she's coming." He said to someone else in the room with him.
"Who's that?" Becky asked.
"Oh, it's just Sophia." Jesse answered her.
"Who's Sophia?" Becky asked, emphasizing the girl's name.
"She's one of my groupies."
"Oh, you have groupies now? How old is this Sophia?" Becky wondered.
"Uhh, 23. Why?"
"No reason." She said before hearing the sound of a girl giggling in the background. "I will see you this weekend, sweetheart." The talk show host said with a bit of an attitude before hanging up the phone.
"Sophia?" DJ asked once Becky set the phone down. "Groupies? Man, Uncle Jesse really IS making it as a musician now, huh?"
"Oh yeah…He's doing just great." Her aunt said as she stepped over to the kitchen table and took a seat at it.
"What's wrong, Aunt Becky? Don't you trust him?"
"Oh, I trust him. It's Sophia I don't trust."
"Come on, Aunt Becky. Uncle Jesse is too crazy about you to ever do something that stupid."
"Yes, you are right. I think I just really miss him. I'm sure once I see him, this feeling will go away." She tried to reassure herself and DJ stood behind her chair to rub her back. "I just know how groupies can be. And I'm not getting any younger."
"You are becoming more beautiful though." DJ told her. "Uncle Jesse said so himself."
"He did?" Becky looked up over her shoulder at her niece behind her.
"Yes. I overheard him, Dad, and Joey talking the last time he was home and that is what he said. He said he couldn't believe how much more beautiful you are now than when you both met."
"DJ." Becky chuckled a bit. "I appreciate you trying to help, but-"
"It's true!" DJ swore. "I wouldn't lie to you about that."
"So he REALLY said that?" Becky smiled and when DJ nodded, she felt her love for Jesse grow as well as her own confidence. "Alright, well…I better go pack then." She stood up, happily and kissed DJ on the cheek before running upstairs to the attic.
When Rebecca arrived in Japan, she went straight to the nearest bathroom to touch up her makeup and smooth down the black and red tight dress that she wore. She remembered what DJ had told her two days before and she couldn't help but feel sexy again. Ever since she had the twins, she wasn't sure she'd ever get that feeling back, and now that she had it, her excitement to see Jesse grew more and she hoped that they would be alone long enough before his concert for them to….
"Mrs. Katsopolis?" A man in a tuxedo approached her in the airport by the double sliding doors. "Mr. Jesse sent me here to pick you up." He told her, his accent thick yet understandable.
"Yes. Hello. Thank you."
"Do you have any more baggage to claim?" He asked her.
"Oh. No. Just the one." She held up the bag she brought with her.
"Ah. Let me take." He nodded and kindly took the bag from her. "I am parked right outside. My name is Kenshin." He told her as he gestured for her to step through the automatic sliding doors first.
"Well, it is nice to meet you, Kenshin. Thank you." Rebecca smiled at him and went out onto the sidewalk where she saw the long black stretch limo and her jaw dropped open when she saw Kenshin place her bag in the limousine's trunk. "THIS…is the car you are driving me in?"
"Yes, ma'am." Kenshin closed the trunk and opened the back door for her. "Mr. Jesse only wants the best for you."
"He has never sent me a LIMO before." She grinned before stepping into the back seat of the limo and Kenshin shut the door before getting into the driver's seat and he drove her to the concert venue where Becky was shown to Jesse's dressing room.
"It is that door there, Mrs. Katsopolis. Allow me to let Mr. Katsopolis know that you have arrived."
"Oh..No. Thank you, but I want to surprise him." She smiled at the woman that brought her to the dressing room.
"Yes, ma'am." The woman smiled at her and left.
Becky smoothed down her tight dress again before running her fingers through her hair and she cleared her throat before trying several different poses that she wanted to stand in while Jess opened the door. But after the sixth pose, she felt silly and rolled her eyes at herself before putting her fist in the air, about to knock on the dressing room door when she heard the same giggles inside that she had heard on the phone the other day.
"Jesse! Stop it!" The girl behind the door laughed.
"What are you gonna do? You gonna make me?" Jesse's voice and words seemed to startle Becky and that fear she had days before had returned.
Her heart started pounding and she felt sick to her stomach briefly before the door suddenly swung open to reveal that Jesse was about to throw something out the door but he caught himself as he saw his wife. "Rebecca!" He smiled and allowed the girl behind him to rip the teddy bear he was about to throw out of his hand just in time for Jesse to hug Becky, lifting her up and spinning her around. "Oooo, that's my girl!" He smiled and set Becky back on her feet, kissing her right away. "I missed you." He smiled. "How are the boys?"
"The boys are great." She said, with less excitement than her husband had.
"You look great." Jesse told her. "Why didn't they tell me you arrived?"
"I wanted to surprise you." She weakly smiled. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to interrupt you and-" She knew it had to be Sophia, but she wanted Jesse to tell her that himself.
"Oh, sorry, sorry. Becky, this is Sophia. Sophia, this is my wife, Bec-."
"It's true! You're married to Becky from Wake Up San Francisco!" She let out a squeal and went over to Becky, taking her hand and aggressively shaking it. "I can't believe I'm meeting you in Jesse Katsopolis's dressing room! Ah!" She squealed again. "You are so pretty. Wow!" She turned a bit red.
Just then, there was a knock on the door. "Mr. Jesse! Twenty minutes!"
"Thank you, Haru!" Jesse yelled back through the door. "Sophia, you better go get your seat before one of the others takes it."
"Yes, you're right! You're right. I will see you after. Break a leg!" She laughed before squeezing her teddy bear and leaving the dressing room.
"She gets her own seat?" Becky asked once she was gone.
"Yeah, all the groupies get V.I.P seats."
"ALL the groupies? How many do you have?"
"Like ten." Jesse told her.
"Oh….Well, where are they?" Becky crossed her arms over her chest. "Why does she get to be in here all alone with you?"
"She doesn't. She left her bear in here and came back to get it." Her husband looked at her with suspicious eyes. "Why?" His brain answered his own question before Becky could. "You don't think something is going on between us, do you?"
"I don't know. I heard her giggling on the phone with you the other day. And giggling behind the door when I first got here."
"I was teasing her with the bear." He told her.
"She giggles a lot." Becky said, looking off to the side as if she didn't hear him over her own thoughts.
"Becky, babe. Are you listening to me?" Jesse stepped closer to her. "Nothing is going on between us. Alright? I promise. I would never do that to you. Okay? Never! Besides….how could I when you come in here looking like that?" He smirked, looking her up and down, his eyes roaming her legs longer.
Rebecca's eyes cautiously looked up at her husband's face and she couldn't help but smile at the way he looked at her. She stepped closer to him and slowly wrapped her arms around his neck. "You're right. I don't know what came over me." She said in a sultry voice before kissing him slowly and hotly with a soft hum.
When she broke the kiss to look at him, she noticed the smirk on his face, knowing what would come out of his mouth after it. "Have mercyyyy." Jesse said and Becky softly laughed before kissing him again.
"Hmm…you know, Jess." She spoke against his lips between kisses. "We do have twenty minutes." She smiled, kissing him again.
"Mm, yeah? What do you think we can do in twenty minutes?" He asked her, already knowing the answer to his own question before he kissed her again and lifted her up, carrying her to the couch in his dressing room and laying her down on it without ever breaking the kiss.
Becky stood in front of Jesse's dressing room mirror, replacing an earring in her ear that had fallen out while she and Jesse were going at it on the sofa. The musician moved to stand behind her to fix his hair before he could go out onstage to start his concert.
"So…" Becky began once she had fixed her earring. "What is this big surprise you needed me to be here for?"
"Baby, I can't tell you that." Jesse wrapped his arms around her from behind. "It'd ruin the surprise." He kissed her neck. "Come on. I got you a special seat."
"You did?" She turned to face him with a smile as he took her hand. Jess nodded and led his wife out of the dressing room and as they walked passed the door to the auditorium, Becky looked at it. "Don't I have to go in there?" She wondered with a chuckle.
"No, no." Jesse told her before leading her to a different door that led directly backstage.
"Jesse!?" Becky yelled over the loud crowd that was chanting his name. "What are we doing back here?!"
"This is your seat!" He yelled back to her with a grin. "Come on, it's almost time for the surprise!"
He led her closer to the stage and let go of her hand once he could go out in front of the crowd that cheered even louder once they saw him. Becky smiled from backstage as she watched her husband in all his glory. Her smile grew so wide that she swore she'd pull a muscle in her cheeks, seeing him this happy causing her entire body to shake with joy for him.
She watched as he and his band played a few covers of other songs and a few songs of their own before she felt a hand on her shoulder. She turned to see who it was, her jaw falling open with shock as the man's sunglasses reflected the lights from the stage. His black hair was slick and shiny and she could not believe her eyes as he walked by her and onto the stage.
"Ladies and gentlemen, Michael Jackson!" Jesse said, gesturing to the King of Pop entering the stage with him for a hug and the band began to play "Smooth Criminal," thus resulting in Jesse and Michael singing together while Michael danced.
It was only halfway through the song that Becky finally snapped out of her daze and realized that Michael Jackson was singing with her husband….Michael Jackson TOUCHED her shoulder. As soon as it kicked in, she began to cheer and scream from backstage almost as loud as the groupies in the V.I.P section were.
When "Smooth Criminal" ended, Becky was clapping and thinking to herself that Jesse truly made it as an Artist. Her joy for him only grew and she felt every bone in her body fall in love with him all over again. Jesse and Michael then sang "Man in the Mirror" together and Becky swayed backstage and even sang along a bit herself.
After that song was over, Michael gave a short speech congratulating Jesse and the band before thanking them for allowing him to join and then he turned to leave the stage.
"Oh, oh, oh. Michael, Michael." Jesse said to stop him from leaving right away. "Permission to sing another one of your songs even when you're not here?"
"Alright, but only one." Michael half joked and everybody laughed before he left, walking right by Rebecca again.
"Oh, oh! Mr. Jackson?" Becky held back a squeal as he stopped and looked at her. "That was wonderful! I know that meant the world to my husband."
"Your husband?"
"Oh, Jesse! Jesse is my husb-I'm Rebecca Donaldson. Hi." She took his hand and shook it.
"Rebecca Donaldson….From Wake Up San Francisco."
"Yes, yes! That's me!" She almost squealed again but tried to keep her composure.
"I'm not from San Francisco, but everytime I'm there I watch the show. You and your co-host are hilarious." He told her.
"Oh! We would just love to have you as a musical guest sometime. I don't know why I'm telling you this. It's not like YOU'D ever wanna-"
"Give my agent a call." He smiled. "We'll make it happen."
"Are you for real? I mean…oh, I am still holding your hand." She let out an embarrassed laugh and finally stopped shaking his hand. "Great sunglasses by the way."
"Here." The pop star removed his sunglasses and handed them to her.
Before Becky could say another word, she took the glasses from him with her jaw dropped again and watched him leave, positive that this was some crazy dream. She let out a surprised breath and an exhilarated laugh before putting Michael Jackson's sunglasses on over her own eyes. She turned to face the stage again, watching Jesse start the next Michael Jackson song.
"You'll never make me stay
So take your weight off of me
I know your every move
So won't you just let me be
I've been here times before
But I was too blind to see
That you seduce every man
This time you won't seduce me
She's saying, "That's okay
Hey, baby, do what you please
I have the stuff that you want
I am the thing that you need
She looked me deep in the eyes
She touchin' me so to start
She says there's no turnin' back"
She trapped me in her heart
Dirty Diana, nah
Dirty Diana, nah
Dirty Diana, no
Dirty Diana
Let me be"
Becky bopped along as he sang, remembering that she loved this song when it first came out and hearing Jesse sing it made her feel so hot for him again.
"She likes the boys in the bands.
She knows when they come to town
Every musician's fan, after the curtain comes down
She waits at backstage doors, for those who have prestige
Who promise fortune and fame, a life that's so carefree
She's saying, "That's okay
Hey, baby, do what you want
I'll be your night lovin' thing
I'll be the freak you can taunt
I don't care what you say
I wanna go too far
I'll be your everything
If you make me a star"
Dirty Diana, nah
Dirty Diana, nah
Dirty Diana, no
Dirty Diana"
Just as Becky started to sing along a little, she noticed Jesse's eyes continue to fall in the same direction in the audience. Peeking her head out passed the curtains a bit, she saw the group of the band's groupies and in the front row was Sophia. Rebecca gulped as she looked at her husband on the stage again and he smiled and smirked as he sang before pointing in Sophia's direction. His wife's heart dropped and her smile faded as she watched him sing the next verse, paying even closer attention to the lyrics now as she pushed Michael's sunglasses up onto her head so she could see her husband in the proper lighting while his eyes gravitated toward the 23 year old over and over again.
"She said, "I have to go home
'Cause I'm real tired you see
Now I hate sleepin' alone
Why don't you come with me?"
I said, "My baby's at home
She's probably worried tonight
I didn't call on the phone
To say that I'm alright"
Diana walked up to me
She said, "I'm all yours tonight"
And then I ran to the phone
Sayin', "Baby I'm alright"
I said, "But unlock the door"
'Cause I forgot the key
She said, "He's not coming back
Because he's sleeping with me"
Before the next bridge could begin, Becky felt sick to her stomach and she ran off the stage, leaving and rushing to Jesse's dressing room. She closed the door behind her and leaned back against it before sliding down to the floor to cry.
The crowd continued to cheer for Jesse and the band for the next hour or so as Becky debated leaving and catching the next flight back home but she stayed frozen on the dressing room floor. Her hand reached up to run her fingers through her hair, accidentally knocking Michael's glasses off her head and she picked them back up from the carpet. Staring at them, she thought about how the first time she laid eyes on Jesse, he had similar sunglasses on and she heard her favorite two words from him: "Have mercy." She couldn't help but wonder how many times he had said those words to Sophia, or any of the other groupies for that matter, and her tears continued to fall.
She soon found the strength to stand up again and she put her hand on the door knob, about to leave when something urged her to stay and talk with him first. It made her sick to think about seeing him right now, but she let go of the door handle and went over to the sofa, sitting down on it before sighing and turning to lay flat on her back, watching the ceiling as the muffled songs from the band down the hall pounded in her head.
Once the last Encore was finished, Jesse left the stage, removing his guitar from his shoulder with the biggest grin on his face. He looked around at the crew members backstage and his smile faded a little. "Rebecca?" He looked around some more. "Hey, have you seen my wife?" He asked some of the crew and they pointed toward the door to leave backstage. Confused, Jesse quickly handed his guitar to one of the band members and rushed out the door, looking down both ends of the hallway. When he didn't see her by the drinking fountain nor the bathroom, he ran to his dressing room, calling her name. "Becky?!" He called out just as he reached the door.
When he opened it, his eyes landed on her at the couch, her eyes closed and her breathing steady. He smiled to himself as he remembered that it would only be about five in the morning in San Francisco and Becky had to feel exhausted and jetlagged. He closed the dressing room door and walked over to the couch, kneeling in front of it to watch his wife sleep, but once he was closer to her, he could see the tear stains on her face and he gently reached up to wipe them away, accidentally waking her.
"Hmm?" Becky could barely open her eyes, but once she did, the first thing she saw was the love of her life. For a split second, she smiled, so happy to see him, then her smile vanished as she remembered everything. She sat up, setting her feet down on the floor between her and her husband.
"Hey, darlin." Jesse said, resting his hands on the side of her thighs.
She gently pushed his hands away. "Don't you 'darlin' me, Jesse Katsopolis."
"What? What did I do?" He asked her.
"You shtooped a 23 year old hyena!"
"Shtooped? Wh-"
Becky stood up and went over to the door. "Goodbye, Jesse!" She angrily placed Michael's sunglasses over her eyes before going outside and slamming the door shut. Jesse opened his mouth as if to yell to her but before he could, the door opened again and Becky peeked her head inside. "And yes! These ARE Michael Jackson's sunglasses, in case you were wondering!" She slammed the door shut behind herself again. Then, the door opened again. "I am going home by the way." She informed him before shutting the door again. Jesse stepped over to stand directly in front of the door just as Becky opened it again. "And by home I mean San Francisco!" She almost shut it but this time, opened it again before the latch could click. "Because our sons are there or else I would go home to Nebraska."
"Are you finished?" Jesse asked her with his hands on his hips, feeling bad for finding this a bit amusing as he held back a laugh.
"No!" Becky said with the door shut and then she re-opened it, "I mean no." She corrected herself by making sure the door was open this time as she said it.
"Rebecca." Jesse smirked a bit as he caught her eyes with the door open.
"What?!" She said dramatically.
Jesse curled a finger to beckon her back inside the room, which he knew would work once she'd calm down a little and she stepped back inside, closing the door again and looking at him a bit embarrassed. "Feel better?" He asked her.
She stubbornly refused to look him in the eye as she answered. "A bit! Yeah."
"Good, because guess what?"
"What?!" She asked him, still trying to sound angry though a part of her had already stopped feeling that way.
"That 23 year old hyena is engaged to Marcus."
"Marcus?"
"My drummer?"
"Your drummer? The one that looks like a giant football player?" Rebecca asked him, feeling a bit more calm than before.
"The one that used to be a semi professional wrestler, yes." Jesse chuckled. "He'd kill me if I ever touched his girl."
"Oh….Hm." Becky still refused to look him in the eye. "So?"
"So…I love YOU and our boys. And I don't think any woman or 23 year old could hold a candle to my gorgeous….sexy…smart…funny wife and I thought that by now, you'd know this." He reassured her.
"A-Alright, well then….why did you sing Dirty Diana while looking all sexy and pointing at the groupies like-" She made a silly face imitating him and pretended to point the way he was on stage.
Jesse softly laughed. "I point to everyone, babe. And just so you know…when I listen to that song, or when I sing that song…the only person on my mind is you."
"Me? Really?" She asked, starting to smile a little again as Jesse held her hips.
"Yes, you…My Dirty Rebecca." He joked and caused his wife to laugh, thus making him smile so brightly at her. "That's my girl." He grinned and poked her nose before tracing her jawline with his pointer finger. "I love you, Becky. I will love you forever."
"Forever." Becky smiled, now tears of joy escaping her eyes and Jesse wiped them away while his wife put her arms around his neck. "I'm sorry, Jess." She hugged him so tight. "I don't know why the thought of you around other girls makes me so crazy."
"I feel the same about you, babe." Jesse said as he hugged her back and they just held onto each other….
Forever.
