A/N: Just a cute, little prompt I found. Hope you all enjoy!

Husbands and wives weren't meant to have secrets. Sakura and Naruto had never had to promise each other to always tell the truth, they just always trusted that they would. But this was a secret Sakura hadn't been ready to share. The kunoichi had wanted time to sort out her own feelings first before she discussed with Naruto.

It wasn't that she didn't want children. She and Naruto often discussed when they had kids, their hopes for what they would look like, what specialties they might grow into. They both decidedly did want kids, but talking about it and doing it were very different.

When Lady Tsunade, her mentor, teacher, former hokage, and friend gave her the good news, Sakura was elated, her heart quickening at the thought. She'd excitedly chatted with Shizune and Tsunade at the hospital, but when she left, the excitement faded into anxiety.

There was a human life forming inside of her, one that she couldn't wait to meet. But she didn't know if now was the right time. The hospital was busy, Naruto was still in Hokage training. They were ninja and could be called away at a moment's notice for missions that she could no longer go on. Was she ready to put that on hold? And once she was back on the field, would she be able to give her all and risk her life? Risk leaving her child motherless?

She'd meant to tell Naruto the news after sleeping on it, but then Naruto had been pulled for a four day mission with Shikamru, Ino, and Choji, and she didn't want to give him the news in a rush. So when she kissed him goodbye, her heart felt heavy with the secret she was keeping. She couldn't even talk to her best friend about the situation seeing as she had gone on the mission with Naruto.

Refusing to tell anyone else before Naruto, the news weighed on her shoulders, wanting to tell her parents when she visited, wanting to discuss with coworkers, and their other friends. She kept it locked away, waiting anxiously for Naruto's return.

Sakura thought of how she'd tell Naruto. She could sit him down and come out with the news. Or, she could have some fun with it. Now that she'd had several days to think of it, she was becoming more and more excited, and it was hard containing something so important.

She bought a shirt that said 'eating for two' and wore it for two days straight since Naruto's mission ended up taking an extra day and she wasn't quite sure when he'd walk through the door.

When he did return, he insisted they get ramen for super as he'd been craving it for the entire mission, which didn't surprise Sakura since he asked for this quite a lot after missions. His reward for jobs well done, he'd say.

Naruto came home dirty and bruised, and Sakura followed him into the bathroom, her hand on the worst of the bruises, healing him. He gave her the play by play of the mission while he stripped and stepped under the spray of the shower. If he noticed her shirt, he never commented on it.

"Naruto?" she called his name as he toweled off.

"Ya?" he glanced at her, lowering the towel.

"Do you like my shirt?" She pulled the shirt straight by the hem to make sure he could read it.

"Ya, it's a cool shirt," he smiled at her before tying the towel around his waist and walking into the bedroom.

She followed him. "Did you read it?" Why was he acting so indifferent about it?

"Sure," he said. "Eating for two. It's funny."

Frowning, Sakura put her hands on her hips. Funny? Her being pregnant was funny?

Naruto caught the change of her mood and turned back to her. "Was that the wrong reaction? Should I hate it?"

"What?" Sakura flinched. "No!" This was going all wrong. He clearly didn't understand what the shirt meant, and she needed to regroup. "Let's just go." She'd think of another way to tell him over dinner.

Taking a deep breath, she calmly left the room, grabbing a jacket and once Naruto was dressed he met her in the kitchen. "Are you okay, Sakura?" he asked her, his eyebrows furrowed in concern.

"I'm fine, Naruto. I'm just hungry." The excuse worked as she could get hangry on occasion.

"Me, too. I might eat five bowls of ramen," he joked as they made their way to the ramen shop. Several of their friends were also there, eating in groups. She saw Kakashi and Gai at a table for two next to a larger table that sat Choji, Shikamaru, Temari, Ino, and Sai.

Joining them, Naruto ordered their usual and proceeded to tell Sakura more highlights from the trip, her friends joining in at certain parts that Naruto started embellishing. Usually Sakura enjoyed their stories, but tonight she barely heard a word they said.

"Forehead, are you okay?" Ino leaned over and whispered.

"Sorry," she nodded, trying to put her usual cheer back into her voice. "Just tired."

"The hospital's been busy," Ino nodded in understanding.

Sakura smiled in agreement but didn't say anything more.

"Let's get some beers flowing for the table!" Choji shouted before he went to the counter to order a round for everyone.

Inwardly groaning, Sakura politely refused the glass once Choji tried to offer it to her. "I'm just gonna stick with the water." When the table eyed her suspiciously, she added, "I have work tomorrow."

"As if that's ever stopped you," Ino commented, and Sakura wanted to smack her.

But no one knew the real reason, and she didn't want to bring it up now in front of everyone. So she took their teasing and ridicule in stride. Catching Kakashi's eye over the table Sakura noticed he was giving her a knowing look. Did he know? She trusted he wouldn't say anything; Kakashi would never betray her like that, but she wondered how he knew.

She wasn't quite sure how it happened, probably when Choji was trying to push the beer glass into her hand and she was trying to keep it on the table, but the drink spilled down the front of her jacket. Jumping up, she cut Choji with a seething glare. He sat back down quickly in his chair, mumbling an apology.

Unzipping her jacket and hanging it over the back of her chair, Sakura grabbed napkins to try and clean up the spill, one of the servers coming over with a rag while another server came up behind her and set their bowls of ramen on the table, to which Naruto dug into immediately.

When Sakura sat back down, she noticed Ino and Shikamaru giving her a weird look. "What?" she asked them.

"Sakura, you're pregnant, and you didn't tell me?" Ino asked.

Sakura was momentarily confused and then remembered what shirt she was wearing. Fuck.

Naruto started choking, and Sakura glanced over at him unsure what to say. This was not how she had wanted to tell him. "Sakura!" he said, his mouth full of ramen. A coughing fit proceeded for several minutes, and the table was eerily silent, watching this trainwreck of a show.

"You're pregnant?" he asked her incredulously, standing up suddenly, which caused his chair to tip over and the table to shake. .

"Yes," she nodded. "I tried to tell you at home, and you weren't really getting it, so I was going to wait and figure out a different way to tell you."

He was at her side in a flash, "That's what that shirt meant?" he asked when he finally got his breathing under control. "I am such an idiot."

"Truth," she laughed.

Pulling her to her feet, he pulled her into a hug. "This is amazing news, Sakura. Honestly, I couldn't be happier." His arms wrapped around her tightly, one hand splayed out across her back, the other on her head, holding her to him. Naruto really did give the best hugs.

"Congratulations, Uzumaki's," Kakashi said, to which the rest of the table echoed.

"Thanks," Sakura felt a little embarrassed, but she and Naruto sat back down to finish their meal, though Naruto held his hand out on top of the table, which Sakura took in hers.

"You mean to tell me that she wore that shirt at home and Naruto didn't know what it meant?" Ino asked, shaking her head at them.

"What did you think it meant?" Temari asked.

"I thought she was eating for two, as in us two," Naruto shrugged, though his face had turned a bright shade of red.

"That is hysterical," Choji started laughing.

"Hopefully that kid gets Sakura's brains," Sai commented.

"I hope so, too," Naruto agreed, smiling at Sakura.

"Naruto, you are such an idiot," Ino teased, but she bumped Sakura's arm playfully and said more quietly just to her. "Congrats."

"Thank you, Ino."

Naruto and Sakura hurried through the rest of the meal to go home. On the walk, Sakura gave Naruto all the details she had, how long she's known, what she felt like, what they could expect in the coming weeks.

When they got home, Sakura peeled out of her wet shirt and changed into her pajamas and flopped on the bed. Naruto followed suit, leaning over her, his hand resting on her stomach.

"So this is real, right?" he asked her.

"Of course it is," she assured him.

"I am sorry I didn't get it. Makes sense why you got so upset earlier."

Sakura shook her head, "I should have just told you at that point. I'm sorry you had to find out when our friends did. I wanted to tell you first."

"I get it, you wanted to make it fun," he smiled. "It's a good story now at least."

"You're excited, though, right?" she asked him, wanting to hear him say it again.

"Yes, obviously!" he exclaimed. "We've been talking about it for a while. It's not exactly surprising."

"I know, but I was anxious when I found out," Sakura admitted.

"About what?" His tone was clear of judgment, for which Sakura was grateful.

"Like if I'm ready to give up going on missions, if I'm ready to have my body start changing to accommodate this kid," Sakura answered.

Nodding in understanding, Naruto said, "I hear that, but you decided that you are ready?"

"Yes," she nodded. "You aren't anxious?"

He sat up and crossed his legs, looking down at her. "Not really. I mean, I want to be a good dad; I didn't exactly have a lot of role models growing up. But I figure if I can be as good as Iruka-Sensei or Kakashi-Sensei was to me, then I have a chance of doing this right. And I know you'll keep me in line."

Sakura smiled before sitting up and matching his position, placing her hands on his knees.

"No matter what, we are in this together."

"Together," Naruto leaned forward to kiss her before he pushed her back on the bed, her head resting on the pillows. Shifting so that he was between her legs and could rest his head on her stomach comfortably, he lifted her shirt and placed several kisses along her navel.

"Hey little one," Naruto whispered. "I'm your papa. And I already love you so much."

Sakura smiled and reached her hands down to stroke Naruto's scalp.

They stayed like that for several long minutes, Naruto talking to their baby, and Sakura listening, content. All her previous worries and anxieties melted away, leaving her feeling silly for having doubted that this would be one of the best things to happen to them.

Here in Naruto's arms, in the safety of his embrace, she was home, secure, content.

Happy.
