Haunted

Reigen balanced a pencil on his face in boredom, staring at the phone. It was a calm and boring week for Spirits and Such, their last job not even involving the supernatural. It was baffling how a client thought his fish had been possessed when it was clearly stressed and suffocating due to the water temperature being too high. All Tome had to do was Google search the symptoms.

The phone rang and the pencil fell, Reigen let it ring twice before answering. No need to seem desperate for work. "Spirits and Such Consultation Office."

There was heavy breathing on the other end, along with a tense silence. "Uncle Reigen? Remember how you said that it's okay to run away from problems you can't tackle?" There was a sharp intake of breath. "Do you mind me visiting early this year?"

"You're always welcome here kid. Just don't be surprised when you see my other employees." There was a stunned silence, then a snort. "You actually conned someone into working for you?"

"You say that like you didn't enjoy being my assistant when you were a pipsqueak." Reigen states, leaning back in his chair.

"I liked helping people, not lying to them! I get enough of that from dad."

Reigen grimaced, the urge to punch his brother-in-law increased every time his nephew mentioned him. "Fair enough."

There was a sigh. "You're a saint compared to him and after the bullshit he's trying to drag me into, I'm setting him on fire the next time I see him."

"Why am I not surprised? Just don't set the office on fire, I haven't gotten around to buying another fire extinguisher."

"Thanks uncle Reigen. I should be there in a couple hours." Tsuna says, his tone relaxing significantly.

"No problem kid." Reigen hung up the phone and recalled the meager amount of food he currently had in his apartment. "Ah crap, I need to go shopping!" Tome walked into the office, seeing him writing a list.

"Good afternoon Reigen-sensei." The girl greeted. The man sat up, his hair disheveled. "Tome, you know what teenagers like right?" Before she could answer, she found herself being dragged to the supermarket.

A boy with spiky brown hair and orange eyes walked into the office, shadowed by a spirit. It was a woman wearing all white, radiating a soothing aura. "I am sorry for the rude behavior of Reborn." The woman says apologetically, Tsuna sighed. "It wouldn't be fair to blame you. If anything it's the fault of Iemitsu for sending the man in the first place. I can see why you can't rest in peace."

Serizawa sensed the powerful esper and fidgeted nervously. "Welcome to Spirits and Such. Do you need an exorcism?" He asks, looking straight at Luce.

"No no, Luce isn't malevolent or anything. I had a panic attack and she helped me calm down." Tsuna says sheepishly. "I'm here to visit my uncle Reigen. Is he here yet?"

Serizawa vaguely remembered Reigen mentioning a relative that almost became a shut-in like he'd been. If his nephew was an esper it would explain the way he treated psychics in general. "Boss went out with Tome-chan to get some snacks. I'm Serizawa Katsuya, his employee."

Tsuna gave a respectful bow. "Sawada Tsuna, I usually visit during the summer but I couldn't this year. It's not often that I meet another esper." The teen grinned, the air around him warming up.

Luce gave Serizawa a discerning look. "Keep an eye on him, little Skies shouldn't be unprotected." The ghost warns before fading away. Tsuna looked at the spot in terror, the monsters plaguing his childhood had called him the same thing.

An office plant burst into flames, the crackling fire snapping him out of his daze. "Sorry!" He yelped, smothering it instantly. Serizawa winced, a pyrokinetic. At least he could control it to a certain extent. Now he knew why Reigen was muttering about fire extinguishers.

"I think Reigen-san has some games around that we can play while we wait."

Tsuna hesitated briefly. "Do you know how to play Mario Kart?"

Serizawa raised an eyebrow. "I'm not that old. I'm currently undefeated."

Reigen thanked any deity willing to listen that Serizawa was in the office with his nephew. Both espers were comfortable enough with each other to be brought out of their shells. An object would float by occasionally but thankfully nothing caught fire. "How's my budding arsonist nephew?" Reigen quipped, the office plant was once again engulfed in flames. "Uncle! You make it sound like I set fire to things on purpose!"

"You have a nephew?" Tome asks in surprise, Teruki had raised eyebrows. The blond esper had decided to tag along when he spotted them while grocery shopping. Tsuna gave a polite bow. "Sorry for intruding but I couldn't think of anywhere else to go. I'm Sawada Tsunayoshi, pleased to meet you." There was a slight tremor in his aura around the teens, thankfully no new plants were set ablaze.

Reigen puffed out his chest. "He was my first pupil!" He brags, Tsuna deadpanned. "You screamed like a little girl the first time I set something on fire."

"What was I supposed to do when you lit my pants on fire?!"

"Stop lying? Dad was obsessed with English sayings and I took the pants on fire part literally."

Tome and Teruki laughed, already starting to like the teen. Reigen cleared his throat, giving Tsuna an irritated look. "Alright, enough laughs at my expense. You said you needed help?"

The teen froze, his good mood gone in an instant. "I found out recently what dad is really doing overseas. Apparently he's a high-ranking member of a mafia family."

Reigen strung together a series of swears that would've made a sailor blush. "I knew that bastard was no-good, and just when I thought my opinion of him couldn't get any lower. Does Nana know?"

Tsuna shook his head, giving a weak chuckle. "You know mom, she's always off in her own world. A talking baby in a suit claimed to be a tutor sent by dad and didn't she bat an eye. He claimed to be there to make me the next leader of the family. I don't want to be a criminal!"

"Does this... talking baby know where you ran off to?" Reigen asks, trying to calm his nephew down. Tsuna shook his head. "I reported him to the Hibari family and Yamamoto-san smuggled me out of town. Luce-san said she would try to convince him to leave me alone but it might not work. The curse that he's under makes it easy to sense him."

Reigen slumped in his office chair. He had a habit of bluffing his way through danger but this time he couldn't handle it alone. His sister and nephew deserved so much more than what Iemitsu had given them. They were much needed pillars in his life when he started his business and when the world decided to kick him while he was down.

"Is there any threat to Nana?" Reigen asks, Tsuna glared. "If there was I would have brought her with me. Dad wants her oblivious and I doubt he'd be happy about anyone harming his dream of a perfect family. That and the Hibari are really nice to me for some reason."

"We can show you around town." Tome offers the distressed teen.

Tsuna looked at Teruki, the blond sighed. "We've dealt with the Claw before; we'll keep you safe from the goons your dad might send."

Fon had just completed a hit in China when his mobile rang. He raised an eyebrow; it wasn't often that his family called him.

"Meifeng, it isn't often that you ignore your own pride to call me. Has Hisoka upset you again?"

The voice on the other end growled. "One of your coworkers just showed up in Namimori and scared away my son's Sky. My baby boy is out of his mind with worry." In the background there was a heavy thud, followed by the tinkling of falling glass and terrified screams.

Fon frowned. He wasn't aware there were any active Skies in Namimori. Whoever it was instinctively knew to flee an Arcobalenco. He could think of one person in particular that would garner that sort of reaction. "It's Reborn isn't it?"

"We will not hesitate to kill him if he harms one of our protected. So rein him in or we will use every resource available to make him feel the same pain my boy is."

A loud beep ended the call and Fon felt conflicted. It seemed Reborn's thirst for chaos was going to bite him in the ass. He wasn't even aware his grand-nephew was courting a Sky. He dialed the number for Takesushi, hoping the former assassin would give him more details about what happened.

"Fon, if you side with that chaos magnet I will permanently ban you from my establishment." Tsuyoshi states before Fon could even speak.

"Why is everyone so determined to keep this Sky out of the mafia?"

There was a slight pause. "Tsunayoshi is… special. He can see dead spirits, including victims of the mafia. He has enough problems without having to deal with vengeful ghosts. Used to run into my store whenever he'd feel overwhelmed. The mafia will break him."

"We both know that Vongola is powerful enough to get whatever they want."

"The kid already has some elements that would happily raise hell for him. Not all of them are… alive. And no one is suicidal enough to invade a city of espers."

Fon raised an eyebrow. Espers? Mammon claimed to be one but their tricks could be attributed to their Mist flames. "I will keep silent my friend but the mafia is going to find him whether he likes it or not. Once you're involved, escape is impossible."

There was a brief pause. "I am well aware. That's why I'm sending my son to keep an eye on the situation. I hate to admit it but despite his civilian upbringing he still has the instincts of a hitman."

"I wish you luck." The call ended and Fon sighed. He was not looking forward to the call that he would inevitably get from Reborn.
