Korra opened her eyes. Her waking was never subtle, but now she had to get used to having another body permanently in bed.
Despite what she thought, Mako always knew when she woke up. It had to do with the fact he was usually up first, but even when Korra tried to be gentle and not leap into a sitting position, she woke him if he wasn't.
He'd never tell her though.
Korra wasn't used to checking, but even if she did Mako usually pretended to be asleep. Truth was, he loved watching his girlfriend sleep or stretch first thing in the morning.
The way her body was relaxed and her hair was a mess. The way her dark hair covered her bronze skin and a few scars with it.
Another thing Mako would never tell Korra is that he loved her long hair. He didn't mind it short; he would always love her for her.
Every time he gazed at the Avatar; he couldn't help but think flawless.
At least to him, she was.
Not everyone would agree but not everyone knew Korra like he did. Throughout the years he learnt to appreciate every single second spent by her side.
Korra yawned and threw her arms in the air to stretch.
Mako peeked at one eye at first then both to shamelessly stare. The sight of her back muscles in a stretch, the sun peaking though the blinds and glazing them. Her biceps and full shoulders, he was smitten over every inch of Korra.
What a treat for Mako. Only for Mako.
Now he was fully awake and his mind was going places even if he remained still.
She then combed her hair with fingers. The strands of hair reached past her shoulder blades. Korra admitted it was a nice change from the bob cut she kept for years. It brought her back to older times, when she was a teenager yet it made her look bolder, stronger and grown. It also connected her better to the Water Tribe's traditions. Yes, it was a lot more work but it was worth it. And Mako liked to touch her hair.
At this point the Mako was bending all of his will to stay at rest. He didn't know for how long he'd succeed at that for it was such a hard task. His amber eyes traveled down Korra's back and his face reddened as he became aware that they were both very much naked. It's like he forgot about last night.
Korra shifted again and the sheets creased around her bare hips, revealing more of her lower back. Her blue eyes scanned the room and saw Mako's foot twitch under the covers at which she smirked.
She turned her head to catch him staring but found him seemingly asleep.
Kora huffed.
So, he was asleep, she had to get out of bed unnoticed.
Mako was hypnotized with her curvaceous figure but when her body tensed to move, he lounged at Korra. His arms wrapped around her and he heard her genuine gasp.
"Where are you going?" He croaked out, voice heavy with sleep. Whatever she had to say he would protest.
"I knew you were awake," Kora pouted but relaxed in the warmth of his embrace.
"The Avatar is on vacation. Police orders." Mako reminded softly.
Yep, they had taken the break off and it was only two days in. Korra never allowed herself to get too comfortable with hanging loose.
When Mako held her like that, she let go of all responsibility. The weight would come off her shoulders and she would take a breather.
Instead of saying anything, the young woman closed eyes with a smile, becoming present in the moment.
Mako placed a few wet kisses against her skin, taking in her scent and pressing her body against his. There were no barriers between them, only the mere sheets.
"You're so divine," He whispered. "You're gorgeous. Perfect," he worshipped her in the comfort of their bed.
Korra felt her face heat up.
She placed her arms over his, stroking one of his hands and resting her head against his shoulder. Her fingers brushed the rough, scarred skin of his left arm and it brought her memories of the day it all had happened. It was an affirmation of how Mako would always have her back.
She had zoned out but his lips against her neck brought her back to reality.
To him.
"Mako," Korra hummed, lips curving into a pleased, soft smile.
"I love you," he blurted out.
It shouldn't catch her off guard but sometimes it did. Hearing him say it always made Korra melt. Her teenage self wouldn't believe where they were at now together.
She brought her arm up and found the back of his head. She brushed his dark hair and squirmed as he kept kissing her neck.
"I love you too, City boy."
He pressed a long kiss on her jaw and swiftly pulled Korra down with him. Korra kicked in the sheets to find his skin on hers. Giggling in bliss, she cupped his face with both hands. Their eyes met for a long look that held so much love and admiration.
"This is my favorite part of the day," Mako broke the silence and watched Korra grin. She pressed her mouth against his and draped her leg over his waist. With a single tug their bodies intertwined.
"Then you're lucky for once we have as much time to enjoy it as we want," she gave in. They'd roll in bed for the whole day if Mako insisted.
"Good, I hate sharing you," he caressed her thigh. Ironically enough he had to share her with the whole world.
"Mm, now you don't have to."
"Oh, I wasn't planning to. Not during our vacation."
Mako sealed his promise with a deep kiss.
Korra put her arms around his neck and let her desires take over.
She deserved the break and she deserved to lay around with the love of her life.
"You're mine only," Mako breathed against her mouth.
