Hi everyone how are you all today?
Looking back at when Daniel and Johnny tricked Kreese with an offer to help with his legal issues then renegaded on it, I've personally started to think that their actions may have been dishonorable.
While they're not perfect and have flaws though they both, but Johnny especially, seem to be growing up the story presented within the series shows them as men who strongly believe in honor. As evidenced by them honoring their original deal they made with Kreese by shutting down their dojos upkn Cobra Kai's win and only reopening them since they could not in good conscience allow it to be a negative influence upon the young kids and teenaged adults of the valley or worse the world.
While I do understand why they did not help him since he is unquestionably a villain and perhaps want him kept contained so he won't cause further trouble, them betraying Kreese after he'd been helpful seemed to be against how their characters were written from what I've observed. And putting honor aside, their decision could end up backfiring.
Therefore I've decided to rewrite the scene and have the two younger men make a different decision for Kreese following the info he provided them.
Disclaimer: I don't own "Cobra Kai", its characters, or its dialogue.
Episode 5x07 Correction I: Prison Meeting
Setting: The Valley
Location: Penitentiary
Daniel and Johnny had gone to prison to visit Kreese that afternoon while leaving their students in Chozen's more than capable hands, hoping the former Cobra Kai sensei could enable them to ascertain what Silver's ultimate goal was. They knew the latter was boasting about expanding the dojo beyond the valley but were unsure regarding the details of how exactly he'd accomplish it or how far his plans extended.
What both former rivals were certain of was that Silver's plans couldn't be anything good long term and that the current stakes were higher than ever.
Kreese however refused to aid them in their endeavor until Daniel offered to assist him with the former's current situation by means of a lawyer who could help him and following a bit of negotiation Kreese had finally agreed to the deal. Afterwards the disgraced sensei shared with the two other men some of his past history with Silver in regards to how they'd trained under mysterious and legendary sensei Kim Sun Yung, the founder of their karate style, The Way Of The Fist, back in 1980.
During that time, his then best friend and partner had shared with him his ambition to not only expand Cobra Kai but to do it on an international scale, making their style of karate and Kim's teachings the dominant martial arts style and philosophy worldwide, The Way Of The Fist being the only way.
As Kreese explained to them, Silver had intended to accomplish this by entering their dojo in an international tournament that was the equivalent of the Super Bowl of karate tournaments and if they won then Cobra Kai would become the next Super Bowl of karate. Kreese had refused however, not feeling that they were ready to commence such an enormous step and because his primary focus was on his students and Johnny in particular.
Silver had been disappointed but acquiesced though promising he'd always be there for him whenever Kreese needed him.
Returning to the present Daniel, wanting clarification, questioned him if he was saying that Silver was planning to enter Cobra Kai into another tournament to which Kreese affirmed but further clarified that the tournament the latter's former partner had in mind was the largest one in the entire world. And should Cobra Kai win…
"Cobra Kai goes global," Daniel had finished in realization while sharing an apprehensive look with Johnny as both of them imagined the scenario of tens, if not hundreds, of millions of individuals worldwide and of all nationalities and ethnicities being trained and indoctrinated in the Way Of The Fist. Frankly they did not even want to imagine what such a scenario would look like and especially for the next generation of humanity.
Not to mention if some of those students entered into politics and became highly significant players upon the international stage.
Johnny in particular felt a wave of guilt wash over him since he'd been the one to revive the pertaining dojo.
"I guess this makes me the chosen one of Cobra Kai. Some f…ing chosen one I am," he internally chastised himself.
"Silver has taken the Valley. Now he's putting together the pieces to take everything else," Kreese further added matter of factly before continuing. "You may have found the will to fight. But you're outmatched, and outnumbered. Silver is on the verge of getting what he's always wanted."
Following his words Daniel and Johnny's faces morphed into a thoughtful expression, both senseis knowing they couldn't allow Silver to succeed no matter what.
"Well I think I've held up my end of the deal. The lawyer's number?" Kreese stated and then requested of them to which the other two men shared a look before Daniel slid a piece of paper towards him. The former sensei lifted up the paper and upon unfolding it and to his surprise there was an actual number written upon it.
"Well whaddaya know? A part of me honestly expected you were going to renegade on our deal but you actually came through. How about that," Kreese responded with an impressed expression while studying the number.
Daniel nodded with a smile.
"And that's what separates us from you Kreese. We've both committed more than our fair share of mistakes and me sometimes more than others and nor have we always made the right or best decisions. Plus I was deeply tempted to renegade on our end as you stated. But what prevented me from doing so is honor. Something you lack. As such but it would not have allowed us to just use you to obtain what we wanted and then turn around and back stab you. Especially if you are indeed innocent. Perhaps you could actually learn something from this," he calmly responded and explained then suggested with a chuckle at the end.
"Like he said, neither of us are perfect and it definitely took some time before I was ready to grow up," Johnny added and with his own chuckle before turning serious. "And I most certainly was not always honorable no thanks to you. But thankfully I finally managed to learn its importance and value and my only regret is that I didn't learn that lesson sooner. And so as much as a part of me loathes the idea of assisting you in regaining your freedom a stronger part of me knows that Daniel's decision was the right one and particularly in case you're indeed innocent."
Following that he and Daniel lifted themselves up from their seats and exited the visiting room before leaving the prison while Kreese prepared to dial the number he'd received.
Turned out the lawyer he'd call was a highly prominent one and who actually knew his stuff and with his assistance combined with Silver's incarceration after Daniel, Johnny, Chozen, and their students had managed to expose the pony haired and villainous sensei, Kreese was finally released from prison and cleared of all charges . And while he still wasn't on entirely positive terms with Daniel or Johnny, he did agree to a truce with them and vice versa provided that neither side caused any trouble towards either side. And that counted for something at least.
End Of Part I
A/N I hope you all enjoyed this alternative version of the prison scene between Daniel, Johnny, and Kreese. As for the next and final part but it will involve a certain fight sequence some of the fans had a significant issue with during the tournament before the Sakai Taikai Panel.
Have a good day.
