Harm just stood there, pondering Mac's words. "Were past letting fate decide" once again he let her get up and walk out. He let her go once again, She was right, he was scared, scared he'd make her a widow when he was given the chance to be XO of the Allegiance.
He'd once been told he'd never be given the chance to have his own airwing, so when the opportunity came about, he knew he had to take it, this was his last chance.
He thought Mac of all people would understand, this had been his dream since he was a small boy. He only wanted to make his father proud of him. Yet somehow he now felt he'd let his father down.
He knew he wasn't a young man anymore, and he had nothing to show for his life, except his career. No wife or kids, no one to pass the Rabb legacy onto, he threw that chance away, not once but twice.
He'd asked her to marry him, and she'd said "yes". He agreed to go with her to San Diego. They were going to work on their 4% miracle. He wanted a little girl, she wanted a little boy. His thoughts drifted back to when she told him she was pregnant.

Harm sat in bed reading, nothing interesting, just the new information on the upgrades to the F-18s. It was part of his duty now as a flight instructor. It wasn't his dream job in The Navy but it allowed him the chance to serve and still fly. Plus he was able to keep his rank as Captain. That was a plus in his books.
He glanced up when he felt the bed shift, he smiled as he watched Mac crawl towards him wearing his favorite short red nightgown. Upon reaching him, she crawled into his lap and plucked his reading material from him.
Glancing it over, "Interesting choice in reading tonight Captain."
"Comes with the job now."
"I think I might have something better for you." She said as she opened the nightstand, pulling out a book, and handed it to him. His eyes got wide as saucers."Our 4% miracle?"
She smirked at him; "With your looks and my brains he'll be perfect."
"I want her to have your looks and my brains."
"How about 50/50 sailor?"
"How about healthy?"
"I love you, Harm."
"I love you too Sarah."

After their talk, or lack there of. He was left with more questions than answers. Nothing between them had changed from 9 years ago. Making his way back through the restaurant he stopped when he heard Hetty and Mac talking.
"Did you have the chance to talk to Harm?"
"Yes; nothing has changed from 9 years ago, he is still scared."
"Did you tell him?"
"No, I can't risk him. Especially now knowing that nothing has changed."
"But your final chapter hasn't been written?"
"Hetty this ship has sailed, Harm is happier at sea, I can see that. I can't force him to come back to us."
"Mac he deserves the chance."
"What if he runs again, I can't do that to our son."
Had he heard her right? Do they have a son? How could she not have told him? He cleared his voice, this caused Hetty and Mac to look in his general direction.
Mac sat stoned-faced, she wondered how much he'd overheard. Well, it wasn't going to take long to figure out.
"Mac, we need to talk?"
"Fine."
Hetty stood up; "I'll go join the others."
Harm sat down in the seat Hetty vacated. "Why didn't you ever tell me?"
"It was too late once I found out, you'd already left. Everything was over."
"Sarah, I would have come back, we didn't have to just walk away."
"Harm as much as I love you, we don't work. We both know that. We tried and failed."
"Still why couldn't you tell that we have a son?"
"I didn't want to risk hurting him if you chose not to come back."
"Will you at least tell me about him?"
"Well, he's just like you, in every way, especially in looks, the older he gets the more he looks like you. He loves planes, and he's smart."
"What's his name?"
"Thomas Harmon Rabb- Mackenzie"
Harm sat there stunned beyond words, when this whole day had started, his life had no meaning to it, and now he found out he's got a son. He wasn't sure what to think. He had more questions.
"Does he know about me?"
"He only knows that his father can't be with us. That his job keeps him away."
"Mac, why didn't you tell me? You knew how much I wanted a child with you."
"When I found out you'd already left, we'd walked away from each other."
As Harm just sat there, he started to wonder if this was this all his fault. He just didn't know what to think. He just sat there, thinking about everything he'd done wrong.
Once again Mac knew she had to put herself and her son first, it was clear that Harm was still scared. Deep down she couldn't blame him. Not once but 3 times people he loved had been taken away from him, first his father next was Diane, and last was the daughter they lost.
He told her he felt cursed, that he felt like he was doomed to never have a happy ending, that he needed to walk away, he had to, he had to give her a chance to have a happy life, even if was without him.
She'd agreed to walk away from him, even though it broke her heart. It killed her to leave him. Deep down she would always love him. No matter what, she'd always love him.
He noticed that she had started to get up, he reached for her hand, and she turned to face him."Please let me go with you, I promise I will not walk away this time. I'm in for the long hall."
"Don't make a promise you can't keep."
Hearing those words struck a chord with him. She'd said those to him a lifetime ago. He did make a promise to her, and he'd broken that promise.
"I promise to try, to try and be the man that you deserve. That's worthy of a second chance with you and our son."
She took a deep breath, "Fine you've got one more chance. I feel that fate has brought us back together."
Harm raised his eyebrow, "Fate seems to know us better than we do."
"We'll see sailor."
Mac stood up and reached her hand to Harm, he took it, and together they walked out of the bar and towards the elevator.
Hetty sat in a booth near the exit, she raises her glass, "Here's to the finale chapter."
