Descending through mid-air on a silken thread was a neon green spider with black leopard spots on its legs. A Green Lynx Spider, descending into a glass jar.
Just before the spider continues inside the jar, it stopped, suspended. Something's not right. It waves a leg tentatively through the air...
"Come on... Just a little lower..." whispered a young 14 yr old boy named Darren Shan.
He was standing on the desk, holding the glass jar up over his head.
The spider just hung there.
"Come on... I'll take good care of you. All the bugs you can eat." Darren urged.
The opened as Kurisuta Hikawa entered. A young teen girl with long dark hair always kept up in two buns, and a bouncy personality. She, Darren, and Steve had been friends forever.
Unlike Darren, Kuri wasn't good at sports, she was bookish. But her cheerful disposition and loud nature kept people from ignoring her.
"There you are Darren!" Kuri hopped over. "We're getting massacred out there."
No answer. Kuri jumped on the desk beside him and nudged her head beside his. "Whatcha doin?"
"Shhh..." Darren whispered.
Kuri looked to the ceiling, saw the jar being held up.
"You're gonna scare him away." Darren hushed.
Kuri looked up, recognizing the spider. "Green Lynx, right?" She asked, calling up the knowledge that he had constantly rammed down her throat.
Darren was all concentration as the spider dropped a little.
Suddenly the spider leaped—and jumped right on Kuri! It crawled over her face as she froze, absolutely still, and then gazed at her almost—affectionately?—and then made its escape into a nearby air vent.
Kuri gasped.
"I've never seen a spider act like that before…" Darren whispered.
