For a second that felt like a lifetime, everything stopped; Brianna felt like she was floating in nothingness. Then she blinked, and, when she finally opened her eyes and focused again, she couldn't believe what she was seeing.
Brianna found herself standing at the mouth of a small cave situated on a large hill, overlooking a quiet, moonlit valley. She could see a grand castle on the other side of the valley. A large and very dark forest stretched out as far as the eye could see, separating Brianna from the castle. Treetops glistening silver in the light of the full moon. The hills around us undulated into wildflower-filled meadows that lay sleeping in the dewy night.
Far down in the valley, she could see a little village, its lights twinkling in the distance. In the distance, a giant squid seemed to splash playfully in a large black lake. The moon here was fuller and larger than Brianna had ever seen it, and the night sky was awash with a fantastic array of glittering stars.
Brianna looked around her mind filled with questions, Had she really passed through the tapestry? Where was she? Why her?
Brianna looked around, disbelief clouding her judgment. She was still trying to get my bearings after that strange moment when she had been inside the tapestry and nowhere at the same time. It gave her a funny feeling, as though she had been lifted out of her own consciousness and then put back into her body.
A warm breeze brushed past her face and played with her hair. Gone were the cloudy grey mist and the cold, nipping wind of the British countryside.
Brianna drew in a sharp breath—the air was crisp and clear, sweet smelling, and fresh. The moonlit valley was filled with wild looking rolling meadows, tall broad moorland mountains and wild dark forests.
"How did we come here? Where are we?" Brianna asked, still confused.
"Blimey, Brianna, with magic of course" said Hagrid glancing at her, "Now we'd best head to the castle. We'll have to go through the forest. We'll be alright as long as ya stay close to me, their are things in the forrest that'll hurt ya, but not when ya with me"
With that they walked silently towards the grand looking castle. Brianna stumbling and slipping as she went. She fell a couple of times causing her hands to become grazzed. Her slippers and dressing gown were soaked and muddy. Each time she fell, Hagrid picked her up, asking if she was alright.
An hour later Brianna was sat in a large, beautifully decorated office. It was the headmaster's office, the castle they had walked too was Hogwarts, it was a school for witchcraft and wizardry and it would be Brianna's school come september.
Albus Dumbledore, sat opposite Brianna, he was tall, thin, and very old, judging by the silver of his hair and beard, which were both long enough to tuck into his belt. He was wearing long robes, a purple cloak that swept the ground, and high-heeled, buckled boots. His blue eyes were light, bright, and sparkling behind half-moon spectacles and his nose was very long and crooked, as though it had been broken at least twice.
"I trust you are now put at ease with the change in environment" said Dumbledore calmly as he sat back in his chair. A red and gold phoenix crooned softly, on its perch next to Dumbledore's chair. Brianna nodded. Dumbledore had spent the past half an hour teling her everything that Hagrid had done only in a slightly morr understandable way.
"So what happened to me now?" Brianna asked softly, "where do I go now, will I stay here?"
"Hogwarts is a school, not a home, although many students consider it their second home considering how long they live in its walls. No I will take you to your Aunt and Uncle's"
"My aunt and Uncles?"
"You're aunt Petunia, you're mother's sister and her husband. They live in an all muggle village in surrey"
"Muggle?"
"No magical person. Your mother Lily was a changling, a witch or wizard born to muggle parents." Dumbledore paused for a moment and then continued. "Your Aunt was not on speaking terms when your mother died, I am not sure whey but they seemed to have fallen out several years earlier. However I am sure she and her family will be more than happy to take you in. they have a daughter who is around you're age. She too will be starting at Hogwarts this september"
"What if they don't"
"Then we well find you a home, no doubt many families will be eager to take you in. however not all will have your best interests at heart"
"Now I believe we should be on our way"
Dumbeldore guided Brianna out of the school down a sweeping path and through a set of gates. Once there, he escorted Brianna into a small village and then pushed her inside a red phone box. Only instead of a telephone their was nothing. Dumbedlore smiled at Brianna's confusion.
"Teleportals, they are very clever magic, combing the floo network and apparition. They are safe for anyway, you do not need a licence and you can travel too more palces without the restrictions of the floo network" dumbeldore explained, he then spoke in a loud clear voice.
"4, Privet, Drive, Surrey"
Brianna blinked. She felt the same strange sensation she had when she'd travelled through the tapestry.
They were no longer in the small village surrounded by shopes. They were now somewhere else entirely.
