attending a Halloween party but not recognising each other because of costumes
Hermione didn't know what she was thinking when she decided she was going to throw a Halloween party for her and her friends. Maybe it was because she was trying to impress someone, or maybe just because she had lost her mind.
"Halloween parties are so dumb," Ginny complained, and Hermione wanted to slap his friend. She knew why Ginny was kinda moody, but she wanted a little support.
"Just find a hot pirate to hit on to pass time," Hermione replied, finishing putting the drinks on a table. "I bet you'll find someone to entertain you."
"You know what? You may be certain about it," Ginny said, dusting invisible lines from her dress. "See you later, 'Mione!"
Giggling, Hermione continued arranging the beverage table, looking around her living room and smiling at every person who arrived. She tried not to stare, trying to find Theo, but it was difficult.
Theo had been so kind to her when they started working together, and she has had a little crush on him ever since. Inviting him to her party hadn't been a difficult decision, but finding him in a crowded living room was.
"What happened to normal Halloween costumes? Like witches or something?" a voice from her left startled her. "It's like everyone wants to be the most absurd character they could find."
"I think it's because Marvel and DC became more popular in the last years, alongside some of the fantasy books turning into movies," Hermione replied, looking at the person's costume and not recognising who it was. "I liked your costume."
The person was wearing a very believable costume of Captain America, and Hermione was trying not to droll. Cap was her favourite Avenger, and one of the reasons why she chose to dress as Black Widow.
"Thanks, I liked yours too," Captain replied, and something in his voice stirred a memory in her mind, but she couldn't understand what. "Black Widow and Captain America, I think it was a match made in the comics."
Hermione giggled, blushing under the red wig she wore. She never heard something so cliché, but so adorable before.
"I'm sorry, this was awful." Captain blushed and scratched his neck. "I don't think this is the best first impression I could have made, huh?"
"I think you made an amazing first impression," Hermione said, before putting a hand over her mouth. "I mean…I don't really know what I meant. I'm Hermione."
"Hermione?" Captain asked, widening his eyes. "Wow, you really went into the whole costume thing, didn't you?"
"I'm sorry, do I know you?" Hermione cocked her head to the side, trying to discover where she knew the stranger from.
"I hope so," Captain replied before smiling shyly at her. "It's me, Theo."
Hermione stared unblinking at him, trying to understand how Theo could be such a good Captain America, and what were the odds of them wearing something that could pass as a couple's costume.
"Wow, Theo…you look great!" Hermione said, smiling wide at him. "You make a great Captain America!"
"Thanks," Theo said, blushing at her praise. "You look amazing too. What made you choose this costume?"
"Always loved Black Widow, and Scarlett Johansson is amazing!" Hermione said, biting her lip. "And what made you choose your costume?"
Theo blushed and Hermione was curious to discover what made him blush so much.
"I heard you mentioning to someone at work, how Captain America was your favourite Avenger and well…I thought it would impress you," Theo answered softly, blushing harder.
"You're adorable, you know that?" Hermione said, touched by what he said. "Do you want to get something to drink and dance?"
"I would love that," Theo replied, smiling and grabbing her hand. "Lead the way."
Hermione beamed at him, deciding that throwing a Halloween party wasn't so bad afterall.
