A Life That Has Meaning
Pairing: Hakuno (female) x Sakura
Genre: Friendship/Drama
Disclaimer: I do not own the Fate series or any of its characters.
Author's Note: Haven't shown my love for Sakura in a long while. So here it is. I really want to show that even females can love and protect other girls. Sure they showed it in Heaven's Feel III, but still. I want to show more of it, this time with the female protagonist of Fate/Extra.
Please enjoy.
Sakura Matou. A dear friend that I am madly in love with. She brings such a peaceful aura that even I can feel it. Her appearance as well. Long, beautiful purple hair...violet eyes...her wearing a white sun dress. But she also brings a melancholic kind of behavior in her...like she's suffering from pain and agony...both inside and out. It pains me to see her this way. I want to protect her with my life.
Well...at first I didn't feel it when I first met her. I, Hakuno Kishinami, will experience a life that will have true meaning...and should not always be taken for granted...
Hakuno Kishinami takes one last look at herself in the mirror. She is wearing a blue schoolgirl sailor uniform that consists of a long sleeved shirt, short skirt and black knee high socks. She checks her long, beautiful brown hair that reaches down her back, to make sure that it's all nice and smooth. She gives a nod of satisfaction and then grabs her school bag. She leaves her home after eating a nice breakfast, her parents not going to be home until late tonight. She goes to the train station and gets a ride to school.
Hakuno-chan is a girl that is quite reserved and has nothing to do with most people around her. Not that she has been bullied or anything. But for her, life is just the same old same old. People take life for granted, thinking it's just a piece of cake. That's why she tries to distance herself away from those kinds of people. In fact, she does that so much, her expectations of people being so low, this results in people not bothering her, nor touching her nor anything else that would make her life in danger. She's pretty invisible to most people out there, except for her parents and some teachers.
She's quite athletic, but never much of a fighter, which is also the reason why she distances herself from people. She never got into fights with others.
Hakuno-chan has been that way for as long as she can remember. The very reason why she never has any friends nor a lover. She's not interested in anything of the sort. She prefers to be alone.
When she arrives at the school, she walks idly, minding her own business. Some boys stop and stare at the breath-takingly gorgeous brunette, whispering amongst themselves.
"Dude, that's Kishinami, is she not?"
"Damn, she's so BEAUTIFUL!"
"I wanna date her man! Let me ask her out!"
"No can do, dude! I heard she's a very reserved person. She refuses to go out with anybody."
"Aw, really!? Damn, I really wanted to ask her out!"
"Too bad, dude. She wants to be alone."
Hakuno-chan just ignores their gossiping, even though they are true. She is just not fazed by how they are talking about her.
That is until something makes her stop in her tracks. Her eyes widen a little at the sight of a beautiful girl with very long purple hair that reaches down to her ankles with a red ribbon tied to the side and wearing the same uniform as her. Hakuno-chan stops and stares at this magnificent beauty that is walking to school along with the crowd around her. It's the first time she has seen such a beautiful young woman. It makes her...heart race. Wait...heart race? She has never ever felt this way with anyone else before. So...why this time when she is seeing another girl?
Just then, the girl turns her head and she and Hakuno-chan's eyes meet. The beautiful brunette gasps a little as the violet haired girl smiles and then waves. Hakuno-chan's heart skips a beat again. Why is she feeling this way toward another girl?
Classes come and go, but Hakuno-chan doesn't feel like listening to the lectures. She cannot stop thinking about that girl she suddenly laid eyes on. Who was she? Why did she suddenly make eye contact her? Most importantly...why did she wave to her? She still cannot find the answer to those questions. She goes on thinking about them until lunch time.
She walks idly down the halls, having people pass by her when someone catches her eyes again. That very same girl is walking alone with a bento in hand. She seems to be very nervous around other people as she walks by them. Hakuno-chan wants to help out the girl, but being the person she always is, she tries to not get involved with her. She may have some friends she might have been waiting for, probably why she's so nervous around others. However...
"E-excuse me!" The purplenette calls out.
Hakuno-chan gasps and turns around. The beautiful cutie trots toward her.
"Thank goodness you stopped!" The purplenette sighs in relief.
"Um...is there something you need?" Hakuno-chan's voice is soft, but can still be heard.
"I just...wanted to know if um...you would mind eating lunch with me?" The girl looks at the brunette with pleading eyes.
Hakuno-chan blinks twice. It's not the first time anyone's asked her to eat lunch with them. She would just reject them and eat by herself. But...why does it feel different with this girl? It's like she wants to eat lunch with her this time...to get closer to her.
"I, um, rather eat alone," Hakuno-chan responds, slightly turning her head away. "You should wait for your friends to eat with."
"But I don't have any!" The girl says, taking a step closer. "Please, even if it's just for today. I really want to eat lunch with you."
This girl. She's so desperate. Is she telling the truth? Hakuno-chan usually could care less about these things. But...it seems like this girl is being honest.
"Do you really...not have anyone to talk to...?" Hakuno-chan says, softly. "Why go to someone as quiet as me?"
"Um...because you were the one who looked at me earlier this morning," The girl replies. "So I thought you were a nice person."
"Believe me...even if that were true...I am not interested in talking with anybody," Hakuno-chan says. "I just...like being alone..."
"Well I don't!" The girl says with a serious face. "I truly have no one else to sit with!" She then brightens at an idea that pops in her head. "Oh, I know! Why don't both of us head to the school roof? Maybe people won't bother us there~?"
Hakuno-chan is surprised to hear the girl say that. The brunette herself usually eats on the rooftop during lunch and this girl is offering to eat up there. She really has no choice, does she?
"Fine..." Hakuno-chan says softly. "We can eat together...but just for today."
The girl smiles happily and nods. "Oh, thank you so much! You have no idea how happy that makes me!"
Hakuno-chan turns her back toward her, her lovely hair swaying from the movement. "Come. If we don't hurry up, lunch will be over soon."
"Ah, w-wait!" The girl says. "I never...got your name! My name is Sakura Matou, first year!"
Hakuno-chan pauses and then turns her head to the side to look at the girl. "Hakuno Kishinami...second year."
"Ah, then you are my Sempai!" Sakura says, cheerfully. "Nice to meet you, Sempai!"
Hakuno-chan just nods and then starts walking with Sakura following.
*Later*
"Mmmm~! So good!" Sakura says as she happily eats her food.
"Are you always like this when you eat with someone...?" Hakuno-chan asks.
"No, not really~" Sakura replies. "I am just happy that I get to eat with the quietest girl in the school~!"
She's excited just for that...? Hakuno-chan thinks.
"How do you know about me...?" The brunette asks.
"Rumors," Sakura replies. "People have been going around, saying how super quiet you are and not being interested in anyone, not even having a boyfriend. When I realized it was you that morning because of people gossiping, I wanted to at least say "Hi" to you."
"I see..." Hakuno-chan goes back to eating.
This girl, Sakura, seems so desperate in talking to only Hakuno-chan. But why though? There are other people she can trust and rely on. So why did she pick her to be her friend?
"Sempai," Sakura turns to the beautiful brunette. "Would it be alright if I called you my friend~?"
"Wh-where is that coming from all of a sudden?" Hakuno-chan blinks twice at the question.
"We're sitting down, eating lunch together and having a great time~" Sakura replies and takes a bite of her food. "Is that what you call the beginning of friendship~?"
Hakuno-chan thinks hard about this. In all honesty, she isn't sure about the basics of good friendship. She knows that it would take time for a friendship to grow, but doing something like this? Does this count as becoming friends?
"I am...not so sure..." Hakuno-chan says, truthfully.
Sakura giggles and pats her shoulder. "It's alright. I'm just wondering because...well...you are my very first friend. I couldn't have asked a better person other than you~"
Hakuno-chan's heart skips a beat at this. The way Sakura is saying that...it makes her feel warm inside. The way the purplenette smiles at her, how her very long violet hair sways a little from the wind. This girl as a whole. She's so innocent and pure. She's nothing like other people she's encountered.
"Do you really think...I can be your friend...?" Hakuno-chan looks down at her bento.
"Of course~!" Sakura says, her smile never leaving her face. "It may take a while to get used to, but don't worry. We can work through this together~"
Hakuno-chan just nods. This is the first time she's been with someone for this long. Sakura is so eager to become her friend. Maybe it's not so bad once you try and get to know them a little bit.
After our encounter that day...I thought I wouldn't see her again. But the following week, she showed up again, this time at the library where I was studying after school.
"Whew!" Sakura stretches out her arms. "All done!"
"That's nice, now can you keep it down...?" Hakuno-chan says.
"Mmm...! I know we're in the library but you don't have to be so mean!" Sakura puffs out her cheeks.
"I'm not..." Hakuno-chan closes her eyes.
Sakura sighs and thinks for a moment. Then she gets an idea and jots something down. She then hands it over to Hakuno-chan.
The note reads:
"How about we get something to eat after school?"
Hakuno-chan looks at Sakura, who is smiling. The brunette jots something down and hands it to her.
"I don't mind. Where do you like to go?"
Sakura nods and jots something down again.
"Let's buy crepes!"
Hakuno-chan blinks and looks at Sakura, who is still smiling.
*Later*
"Mmmm! Yummmy~!" Sakura cheers after taking a bite of her crepe.
"You're sounding like it's the first time you've eaten one," Hakuno-chan says as she eats her own.
"I've had them before," Sakura says. "But nothing like these~"
"If you say so," Hakuno-chan says.
The two girls are walking along the sidewalk, enjoying their crepes while the sun is setting. Hakuno-chan has never been with someone like Sakura for the whole school day and then spending time with her after school. Is this what friendship is really like?
"Haaaah...I enjoyed our time together, Sempai~" Sakura turns to the brunette. "I must say, though. You need to work on opening up to people a bit more~"
"What I do with my life is my business," Hakuno-chan closes her eyes and turns away.
"Have it your way~" Sakura eats the last of the crepe and throws the wrapping away. "But...I look forward to seeing you again at school. I'm having a blast being friends with you~!"
Hakuno-chan blinks as the purplenette starts to turn and leave. Hakuno-chan would've shrugged it off but...something inside her is telling her the opposite.
"W-wait..." Hakuno-chan calls, getting the purplenette's attention. "Can we really...be friends like this...?"
Sakura nods with a smile. "Of course, Sempai! We can work things out together, you and I. I'll be seeing you in school tomorrow~"
Hakuno-chan finds herself waving to the girl as Sakura happily trots away. For a quiet girl like Hakuno-chan...she is beginning to see life unfolding for her.
