Chapter 2: Chasing Sailor John/Apologies/Grand opening
(Thomas pulls up to a siding near Knapford Station with Mr. Conductor and Junior in his cab)
Mr. Conductor: (Narrating) Thomas found a place behind the Knapford Station buildings where he could keep watch. (We see a little bit of the area from Thomas's point of view, then cuts to him smiling in determination, cuts to Mr. C. and Junior as they climb down from Thomas's cab)
Junior: Well, looks like the waiting game begins. (Mr. C. nods in agreement as Thomas looks up at the clock saying 12:10, later it says 2:35 as Sailor John and Skiff sneak into the station, cuts to Thomas, Mr. C. and Junior sleeping)
Skiff: Where are we going now?!
Sailor John: (Whispering) Keep your voice down. You'll see soon enough. (Cuts to Thomas sleeping, with Mr. C., and Junior sleeping next to his wheels, Sailor John and Skiff pull into Platform 1 as the pirate drops an anchor and grunts upon stepping onto the platform, Henry then comes through pulling the Flying Kipper, Sailor John poses in from of a poster looking like he's holding a beach ball, looks in the direction where Henry went, then sneaks to Sir Topham Hatt's office and looks at the safe through the window and pulls a stick of dynamite out of his coat, an explosion is heard making Skiff jump and waking Thomas, Mr. C. and Junior up)
Skiff: Oh!
Thomas: Huh?
Junior: What was that?
Mr. Conductor: Shh! (Whispering) Look. (Cuts to Sailor John and Skiff coming out of the station with Skiff rotated)
Skiff: It's not right. I don't want any part in this.
Sailor John: Oh, why don't you pretend you're putting your face in the water and keep your mouth shut?! (Stomps on Skiff's deck)
Skiff: Ow!
Thomas: Huh? The treasure?
Sailor John: Thomas!
Skiff: Thomas?
Thomas: Stop!
Mr. Conductor and Junior: (Together) Stop, thief!
Sailor John: You'll have to catch me first! (Laughs as he pulls on Skiff's tiller, cuts to Thomas as he looks in the direction of his cab as his fireman adds coal into his firebox)
Mr. Conductor: (Narrating) Thomas couldn't chase after them.
Thomas: Oh, no.
Mr. Conductor: (Narrating) His fire had gone out and there's not enough steam! (Cuts to Sailor John aboard Skiff as the pirate adjusts his tiller cackling) Sailor John and Skiff were getting away! (Cuts to Mr. C. and Junior with Junior getting panicky)
Junior: Cuz, what are we gonna do? What are we gonna do? We gotta call the cops, Sir Topham Hatt, the Search and Rescue Center, the-
Mr. Conductor: Junior, calm down!
Thomas's driver: Thomas's fire is burning now!
Mr. Conductor: Perfect! Let's go! (He and Junior climb aboard Thomas's cab and he races away, cuts to Tidmouth Sheds with Edward, James, Percy, and Emily sleeping in their berths with Annie and Clarabel sleeping on a siding near Emily's berth and wake up slightly upon hearing Henry as the big green engine runs through the yard)
Henry: Oh, no! Oh, no, he's coming! He's coming! It's-It's the ghost ship! (Sailor John and Skiff pass by with the pirate cackling)
Annie: I'm having a very strange dream.
Clarabel: So am I. (They then hear Thomas's whistle)
Annie and Clarabel: (Together) Thomas! (Cuts to Thomas with Mr. Conductor and Junior in his cab racing by)
Thomas: Come back with that treasure!
Mr. Conductor: Stop, thief! (As Sailor John and Skiff go down the track, the signal changes to red)
Sailor John: Oh, dear, Thomas! (Laughs) Red light! (A whistle is heard and Thomas looks to see Gordon with his evening express)
Thomas: Express coming through! (The signalman changes the points for Thomas to continue his chase)
Gordon: (Looks and sees Thomas as he races by him to chase after Sailor John) Thomas! (Thomas runs through a tunnel and looks up a hill ahead of him with the pirate ship on the skyline with some ropes attaching it to Skiff)
Thomas: (Gasps) The pirate ship?
Sailor John: (Laughing) Superior sailing power, Thomas, me lad! You'll never catch me now! (Throws a rock to move the ship with Skiff screaming as it goes down the hill)
Skiff: Too fast! Way too fast! (Thomas continues chasing after the ship, cuts to Ryan as he puffs around talking to himself)
Ryan: I can't sleep. I keep wondering what Thomas was worried about. If he's in trouble, he might be needing-(Hears Sailor John laughing and looks up to see the pirate ship and quickly reverses) Help! (Screaming) Pirates! (Cuts to the small railway engines, Mike, Rex, and Bert)
Rex, Mike, and Bert: (Together) Pirates? (They then hear Thomas's whistle)
Rex: That sounds like Thomas! (Cut to Thomas rounding the bend chasing after the ship)
Thomas: Stop! Stop that ship! Rex, Mike, Bert!
Sailor John: What? Those little engines?! (Cackling, cuts to Rex reversing, followed by Bert and Mike)
Rex: Quick, give us a push!
Rex, Mike, and Bert: (Together) 1, 2, 3! (They push freight cars of ballast over the line on Ryan's left and it stops the ship, with Skiff coughing out ballast)
Sailor John: Oh, sink me! Ah! Oh, no, we're losing power, Skiff! (Turns to the small engines and shakes his fist) Arr, you little engines!
Thomas: Never overlook a little engine!
Burt: That's right! Go get 'em, Thomas!
Sailor John: Faster!
Thomas: Ryan, the rope!
Ryan: Huh?
Thomas: Stop that ship! (A rope lands on Ryan's buffer and he starts screaming and tries to stop until he hits a set of buffers on a siding, with the ship tipping over and landing behind him, but Sailor John and Skiff get away)
Thomas, Mr. Conductor, and Junior: (Together) Great job, Ryan! (Ryan smiles as Thomas continues his chase and the sun begins to rise upon reaching Arlesborough Harbor)
Thomas: Skiff, stop!
Skiff: But I can't! (Looks down at his wheels) I can't!
Sailor John: Shiver my timbers, you never give up, do you?! (Throws a shovel at Thomas)
Thomas: Skiff! Drop anchor!
Sailor John: Here, let me drop it for ya! (Throws an anchor at Thomas) Ah, scuffer that! (Grabs some sticks of dynamite and Thomas gasps)
Mr. Conductor and Junior: (Together, duck into Thomas's cab) Dynamite!
Sailor John: So long, Thomas, it's been a blast!
Skiff: Thomas, look out! (Tilts slightly causing Sailor John to drop the dynamite)
Sailor John: Oh, no! Skiff!
Thomas: (Charges and bumps into Skiff) Sorry, Skiff, but I have to stop you somehow.
Skiff: That's okay, Thomas. Try again! Derail me!
Sailor John: (Grabs an oar and hits Thomas's buffer beam with it and waves it around) Treachery! Mutiny! I won't stand for it! I'll have you on the dry dock, Skiff! I'll take away your sail! (Thomas bumps into Skiff, but the railboat switches onto another line)
Thomas: Oh, no! (Sailor John and Skiff spin around screaming) Skiff!
Sailor John: (Laughing) Goodbye, Thomas! I'll always treasure the good times we had! Come on, Skiff! We're heading for home! (Thomas looks depressed)
Junior: Look up ahead! (Points to the track forming a curve leading to Sailor John and Skiff's line)
Thomas: I can do it! (Races on as Sailor John notices)
Sailor John: Huh? Faster, Skiff!
Thomas: Here I come, Skiff! (Sailor John screams as Thomas bumps into Skiff again, both engine and boat chuckle until Thomas looks up) Cinders and ashes! (Thomas's crew, Mr. C. and Junior look out of his cab and Mr. C. and Junior disappear in their gold dust while Thomas's driver and fireman jump out and Thomas rolls into the sea) Nooo!
Skiff: Thomas!
Sailor John: You'll never catch me now!
Skiff: We have to help him, Sailor John. He shouldn't be in the water.
Sailor John: (Stomps on Skiff's deck) Sail on, Skiff! 1 more word of mutiny, and you'll be driftwood! Mark my words! (The sea current swerves them forward and around) Whaaat?! Avast, Skiff! You're lettin' in water!
Skiff: It's not me! It's the treasure! It's too heavy! Pull it overboard or we'll be sunk!
Sailor John: No way, Skiff! Sail on, I tell ya! (Tries to adjust the sail as Skiff notices a huge wave coming towards them)
Skiff: Not this time, Sailor John! (The wave rotates Skiff and Sailor John falls into the water, loses his grip on the chest, and he helplessly watches as the treasure sinks, cuts to the surface as Thomas looks over and Skiff suddenly topsides coughing out water and he and Thomas both sigh in relief and chuckle)
Junior: I'm gonna call the cops! (Runs to find a telephone)
Mr. Conductor: Good idea. Better alert Sir Topham Hatt and the Search and Rescue Centre, too! (Cuts to the sun rising with Sailor John's hat in the water and Sailor John himself aboard the top-sided Skiff as the Search and Rescue Centre's boat, Captain, pulls up with 2 cops onboard as we hear Mr. C. once again narrate) The next morning, Sailor John was picked up by the police.
Policeman: Hello, hello, hello, what have we got here, then?
Sailor John: But I'm innocent, I tell you!
Policeman: Ah, tell it to the Judge.
Mr. Conductor: (Voiceover) He was placed under arrest. (Cuts to a distance with Sailor John's shouting slightly faded)
Sailor John: You've got the wrong pirate! (Sobbing)
Mr. Conductor: (Voiceover) And Thomas was rescued by Rocky.
Thomas: (Being lifted onto a flatbed by Rocky, rotates around, sees Sir Topham Hatt and gasps) I'm so sorry, sir. It's all my fault, I know it is, and-
Sir Topham Hatt: (Raises his hand, smiling) Thomas, there's nothing to be sorry about. I'm proud of you. (Ryan then pulls up with Mr. C. and Junior walking alongside him, all 3 smiling) Ryan told me everything, and I know you did your best to stop that pirate getting away.
Thomas: (Sighs sadly) But I wasn't quick enough to save the treasure, sir.
Sir Topham Hatt: (Laughs) Please don't worry about the treasure, Thomas. My engines are much more important to me than any treasure. And you, Thomas, are my number 1. (Drops his proud smile to a look of guilt) Also, Mr. Conductor and Junior told me all about what's been happening at the construction site. Ryan also explained that he wanted to speak up about the dynamite, but didn't get a chance. I'm really sorry for being so hard on you. I was only focused on getting the branch line ready in time for the opening, but I had no excuse to send you to your shed thinking you were trying to hurt Ryan, when you were actually trying to save him and the others. I was also wrong to not let you explain when you were being pulled out of the cavern that you found the pirate ship instead of Rocky. Mr. C. and Junior reminded both me and Gordon of how you felt unwanted during the restoration of Great Waterton and how I once said that it's always important to find out what really happened because what really happened is what really matters. I might have felt a little selfish, but as I told Percy when he rescued you and the Farmer's bull from the mudslide, I promise to do a better job of listening to you in the future and I'll also work on not taking my strictness too far.
Rocky: And I'm sorry I took the credit for discovering the ship, Thomas. I didn't know you found it first. (Thomas smiles and chuckles looking back at the number 1 on his sidetanks, cuts to him at Knapford Station and hears a whistle and turns to see Gordon pulling in with his express coaches)
Thomas: Gordon, I'm sorry about what happened with the coaches. I just felt too cheeky, and-
Gordon: No, Thomas. I'm the one who's sorry. You were right all along. I was too lazy to fetch my own coaches, and had no excuse to call you a silly little tank engine. I also realized when Mr. Conductor and Junior talked with me and Sir Topham Hatt that I was also partly responsible for what happened. I hope you can forgive me.
Thomas: (Slowly smiles) Apology accepted. (Cuts to the grand opening of the Harwick Branch Line as Ryan, Duck, Rocky, Donald and Douglas, Oliver the Great Western Engine, Toad, Marion, Jack, Oliver the excavator, and Alfie pull in)
Mr. Conductor: (Narrating) At last, work on the new branch line was completed. It extended Sir Topham Hatt's railway from Arlesborough to Harwick.
Marion: This is so exciting, isn't it, Oliver? We actually built a new branch line! (Oliver the Great Western Engine and Toad pull up alongside her)
Toad: I think we're meant to be on that siding over there, Mr. Oliver.
Marion: (Looks back and forth) Oliver? Oliver?! But I thought you made a wish. I thought you changed into a digger. There can't be 2 Olivers!
Olivers: (In unison) Yes, there can! (They both chuckle, cuts to Donald and Douglas)
Donald: Shush!
Douglas: (Whispering) He's here! Look! (Thomas blows his whistle as he pulls in with Annie and Clarabel)
Annie: It's good to have you back, Thomas.
Thomas: It's good to be back, Annie. (Clarabel chuckles as Thomas comes to a stop near the stage where Sir Topham Hatt and his family, Sir Robert Norramby, the thin clergyman, Mr. C. and Junior are at as Sir Topham Hatt walks up to the podium to make a speech, but the microphone screeches until it's straightened out)
Sir Topham Hatt: Ladies and gentlemen, engines and excavators, I am very proud to open this new branch line taking my railway up to Harwick for the very first time. My new tank engine, Ryan, will take care of the goods traffic and I'll be calling on a very special friend to look after all the passengers.
Thomas: But , sir, I already have a branch line.
Sir Topham Hatt: (Laughing) Not you, Thomas! (Chuckles) I was referring to Daisy the Diesel Railcar!
Thomas: Daisy?
Daisy: (Pulls up alongside) That's right, Thomas. Me! (Everyone cheers)
Sir Topham Hatt: (Clears his throat) So, without further ado, I declare this branch line open! (He and the guests walk over to Annie and Clarabel)
Thomas: But, sir, aren't you going to cut the ribbon, sir?
Sir Topham Hatt: No, Thomas, you are. (Leans out the window and points ahead) Full Steam Ahead!
Thomas: (Chuckles) Full steam ahead, sir! (Puffs forward and cuts the ribbon as the song "We Make A Team Together" plays in the background)
We make a team together
1, 2, 3
We go full steam together
Him, you, me (As the engines pull out, the construction vehicles and Marion hold their arms and buckets up, with Marion looking at a ruby on hers as it glistens into the sun)
Best of friends forever we'll be
Yeah, yeah
Better together
We need our friends nearby us (As the cavalcade run around the branch line, they pass Max and Monty, the twin dump trucks, and some workmen wave to them, Thomas looks up a hill and notices Bertie the bus driving along until he stops since some sheep were in his way)
Every day
So they can help and guide us
Every way
And we know there's a place they will stay
Yeah, yeah
Forever beside us
Well, there's nothing that I couldn't do
When I'm steamin' along next to you (As they come into Arlesborough Harbor, Thomas meets up with Skiff, now wearing a new coat of white paint with a blue stripe with children riding on him)
Skiff: Hello, Thomas!
Thomas: Hey, Skiff!
Skiff: Hey, look, I've got my own line now just like you! (Thomas chuckles, as the engines continue down the line in the background, some divers aboard Captain were able to pull out the treasure from the bottom of the ocean)
Diver: 1, 2, 3! (Mike, Rex and Bert are seen on their line, then the screen splits to show Cranky the Crane, Bill and Ben, and Porter at Brendam Docks, Percy, Edward and James at Knapford Station, Gordon, James, and Emily running on the main line, Toby and Mavis at the Quarry, Kevin and Victor at the Sodor Steamworks, and Thomas is seen in a circle in the middle)
We make a team together (We see Thomas, Annie, Clarabel, and Skiff later that night pulling up to the dock at Arlesborough Harbor as they look out at the horizon as fireworks begin to go up to the sky)
1, 2, 3
We go full steam together
Him, you, me
We roll along together
All the way
Yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah
We make a team together
1, 2, 3
We go full steam together
Him, you, me
We roll along together
All the way (The song ends as the fireworks form "THE END")
A/N: Looks like Sir Topham Hatt has learned to not take his strictness too far. Hopefully, he'll also keep his word about listening to his engines instead of snapping at them making "excuses." I know some of you might be wondering about Sir Topham Hatt not punishing Gordon, I did think of something, but I decided to leave it as it is since they both felt equally as guilty for their actions.
