"Hey, there kiddo."
Hunter starts a little in surprise mostly considering he'd thought the famed Owl Lady would have been elsewhere at the moment.
Considering the next day would be the actual final battle for the future of the Boiling Isles.
"Hello, Mama." The Grimwalker answers in a low voice.
Eda scoffs at the greeting "Come on kid, I think after everything you've more than earned the right to call me Eda." She decides with a pleased grin.
"Eda." Hunter echoed testing the name out officially.
"So, Luz told me what happened with you two." The Owl Lady goes in her eyes like Hunter's dropping below them to the human girl wandering the backyard of the newly restored and rebuilt Owl House.
"I couldn't let her just give up her paliasmen like that." Hunter defends. "She'd already given me so much I…I couldn't take that from her too." The former Golden Guard sniffed fighting back tears as his violet eyes track his human friend from his perch sitting on the roof of the famed Owl House.
Keeping a lookout was the least he could do.
"I heard." The Owl Lady nodded. "but I also talked to our old friend BQ about it and she rustled up this little gem."
Hunter couldn't hold in his gasp of shock when she held up the uncut log of darkened Palastrom wood from the truly magical depths of her hair.
The fact that she also produced a small knife as she gingerly balanced the rough log in her more magical stable hand had Hunter's heart beating double in his chest as he looked from the log to the knife and then over to meet the Owl woman's expectant mismatched gaze.
"Really?" Hunter asked hardly daring to hope as he looked once again at the offered chance of a new paliasmen.
"No time like the present." Eda smiled thinking that could be because she like Hunter could hear the growing tones of Raine's soothing bard magic muffled as it was coming from inside the house. The fact Camila was also seeming to be singing along this time made the listening Grimwalker smile a little more honestly.
Luz's human mother must be attempting to teach Amber or Ed another song from the human realm again.
"So Willow did give me a hint at what you might want to do considering…." Eda trailed off as her eyes dropped to the hand-sewn shirt the young man favored since coming back to the isles. "anyway, Gus and the others drew up a few thoughts but it's your choice considering we don't really have time for another egg."
Hunter can't help but smile at the reminder as his eyes find the impressive plasmin curled at Luz's shoulder as she talked with a more mature King below them. The growing Titan had woken from another heartbreaking nightmare a few moments before and needed the comfort of his human sister.
"Or if you don't want…." Eda backtracked misunderstanding Hunter's tearful half-smile for something else.
"No." Hunter denied "I would like this opportunity. Flap… Flapjack would want me to, so I have a fighting chance against Belos now she's…." he trails off his hand resting against his chest as he trails off.
Eda's mismatched eyes go wide at the name. None of them had spoken about how the former Golden Guard had lost the rascal of a first red-winged bird and none of the others, not even Eda had dared push for anything more on the topic considering that each of them even Camila grew pained at even the smallest of probing questions on the topic. The look of pure heartbreak makes every Palilsmen holder give their significant staff toppers an even tighter hug than normal when they get the chance.
As it was even Raine had noticed how both of Eda's shoulders held deepening imprints of Owlbert's talons as well as his interlock night after night regardless of the separating layers of the abomination interchanged hand Abidor had fashioned for the now one-armed more powerful witch on the isles.
"This is redwood, isn't it?" Hunter questioned in awe as he gives a deeper look as the sun starts to set over the horizon.
"is it?" Eda asked absently spinning the bald in her more human hand. "So what do you want to start with? Have...have you considered a name?"
"Evelin." the grimwalker said still considering each wolf sketch Eda had brought with her. "Her name will be Evelin."
