Chapter 2: Halloween
It was later that evening, the night before Halloween.
Team Phantom had done their usual ghostly patrol and after dealing with Skulker's missiles, Technus's latest "gadget", Ember's attempts to either hit on or destroy Danny and the Box ghost's millionth attempt to annoy them to death with his boxes, they were kind of tired.
However, there is another matter that Star and Danny must resolve and quickly.
And that is...figuring out what they are gonna wear for Michelle's costume party.
They were now at Star's house, trying to decide on what to wear.
Mr. Strong was working late tonight due to more court cases piling up that need his legal expertise, and Georgia had the night off to go bowling with Frank the delivery guy.
That left the two of them alone, but unlike most times where they would be making out non-stop, Star was trying hard to come up with the perfect "couple's costume" for them.
"Starlight, I love you with all my heart...but this is taking forever..."Danny groaned, since they were here for almost half an hour and couldn't find one idea that Star was satisfied with.
"Don't complain. This is our first Halloween together as a couple and I want us to make the most of it..."Star said as she was searching the web for costume ideas.
They already rejected prince and princess, cowboy and cowgirl, ninja's and their 1950-esque costumes from the dance since Star didn't want to be "an outfit repeater" or whatever that means.
Now, they were stuck trying to brainstorm some ideas.
"How about explorers?..."Danny suggested.
"Nah, I went as one 2 Halloween's ago. So no..."Star said.
"What about going as Beauty and the Beast?..."She suggested.
"You calling me a beast?..."Danny asked.
Star giggled and sent him a playful look.
"Well...you might be a gentle guy, but you do tend to get pretty wild when we're alone..."She said in a teasing voice.
"I do not..."Danny denied with a playful look on his face.
"I beg to differ, especially with what happened today under the bleachers..."Star reminded, making him blush.
"You weren't complaining..."Danny reminded, making her laugh.
"Who would?..."She said, grinning.
"Enough teasing, you just want me to dress up like that because, hairy face or not, he wore prince clothes and tights too, aren't you?..."He accused.
"Alright, you caught me..."Star said with a shrug.
"Babe, I love you but I am not gonna wear tights just for a couple's costume thing..."He said.
Star pouted but shrugged.
"Can't blame a girl for trying..."She said before going back to thinking.
"How about going as a mermaid and merman?..."Star suggested.
Danny thought about and his mind suddenly envisioned his girlfriend dressed up like a mermaid...particularly with her midriff exposed and wearing a mermaid-like top that are usually associated with those costumes.
He blushed deeply as his imagination wandered a bit...smiling a bit.
"Uh, Boo?..."Star said as she waved a hand in front of his face.
"Huh? What?..."Danny said, snapping out of it.
"As flattering as I'm sure whatever fantasy you just had about me is, you didn't answer me yet..."Star said, while her boyfriend had an embarrassed look on his face.
"Well, uh...mermaid...well, I definitely think you'd make a really cute one..."He said, rubbing the back of his head.
"So, is that a yes for our costumes for the party?..."Star asked.
Danny was about to answer her, only to recall that they were doing this to go to a party...where everyone at school will be...which also means that OTHER GUYS will see her like that too.
He frowned in a protective manner and shook his head.
"I don't think so..."He said, confusing his girlfriend with his sudden change in attitude.
"What's with the 180? You seemed to like the idea a minute ago..."Star said and Danny frowned.
"I wouldn't mind if you dress up like that if it's just us alone...but I don't think I feel like I'm okay...with every other guy...seeing you like that..."He admitted, not making eye contact with her.
Star saw this and giggled.
"Oh, Boo...you look so cute when you're jealous..."She said, still giggling.
"I'm not being jealous! I just don't feel comfortable with...you wearing something so revealing in a place where everyone can see you..."Danny said.
"You are SO jealous..."Star said, loving this side of him.
"Stop making fun of me! I'm serious! I mean...if we do this mermaid thing...how would you feel if I dressed up like one and go shirtless with everyone at school to see me like that?..."Danny asked.
Star was about to say something, until she registered what he said. Star blushed as images of a shirt-less Danny appeared in her mind. She found herself blushing and grinning a bit...until she realized that all the other girls at school will see him like that...including the possibility of Colette if Michelle was crazy enough to invite her.
The blonde girl frowned and quickly shook her head, rejecting the idea all together.
"Okay, no mermaids then..."She said, frowning.
Danny noticed this and smirked.
"You changed your tune on that pretty quickly..."He pointed out. "I thought that you wanted to go as a mermaid..."He said.
"Not if it means every other girl at school will see you shirtless. Only I get to do that..."Star said, being stubborn.
Danny laughed and found this adorable coming from her.
"Now who's the jealous one?..."He said, unable to resist teasing her back.
"Oh, shut up..."Star said, arms crossed and pouting.
They both remained like this for a moment before they ended up bursting into laughter together. The playful banter between them was always fun but it wasn't getting them anywhere right now.
"Boo, seriously...we gotta come up with a costume idea. Michelle's party is tomorrow night and most of the good places will be sold out soon..."She pointed out.
"Fine..."Danny said, calming down.
They went back to brainstorming and tried to come up with ideas. However, it was easier said than done.
5 minutes later
The happy couple were still trying to come up with ideas, but neither could agree on the same kind of idea, either finding a flaw or something they didn't want to deal with in each costume idea.
"What about going as pirates?..."Star suggested, but her boyfriend shook his head.
"No thanks, reminds me too much of Youngblood when he tried to kidnap our parents..."Danny said.
"Oh, right..."Star said.
"How about going as astronauts?..."Danny suggested.
"You are such a NASA fanboy..."Star said in a teasing way.
"I am not. I just think it be fun..."Danny said.
"Didn't you already go as an astronaut during eight grade already?..."Star asked.
"So?..."Danny asked, not getting it.
Star sighed and tried to be patient here.
"Danny-Boo. I love you but you shouldn't repeat if you can help it..."The blonde girl said, like it was obvious.
"Okay, then how about vampires?..."Danny said, but instantly regretted it.
"No way! I've had had enough about vampires to last a lifetime. Both Hopping vampires and ghosts who happen to look like them..."Star said, thinking about two enemies that would be happy to never see again.
"Oh, right...sorry..."Danny apologized before they went back to brainstorming.
"How about going as Cleopatra and her boyfriend?..."He suggested.
"You mean Julius Caesar or Mark Antony?..."Star asked.
"Uh...either..."Danny said, since his history isn't exactly perfect.
Star thought about it but for some reason, a memory that she doesn't quite remember surged and she suddenly shuddered and felt her skin crawl for reasons she can't explain.
"What's wrong?..."Danny asked.
"I don't know why but...for some reason, I suddenly thought about mummies, smelly feet, hand maidens...and I also feel a strong urge to kick Tucker's butt right now..."Star said, feeling angry but she couldn't explain why.
Danny blinked, until he realized what this might be about.
"Oh yeah, Tucker tried to wipe her and everyone's memory from that time...but I guess that staff really doesn't work too well..."He thought, while his girlfriend sent him a look.
"What did Foley do and is it ghost related?..."Star asked, since she had a feeling this was more than just a strange thought.
"Uh...well...we had an incident with a mummy ghost that brainwashed Tucker into acting like a total royal pain, but it wasn't totally his fault and we beat the bad guy and wiped everyone's memory of the whole event..."Danny said.
Star was stunned as her boyfriend continued to explain that incident and all she could do is frown.
"Are you serious? Now, I don't feel guilty about punching him that one time he mentioned "hand maidens", even if I didn't know why I was so mad at the time..."Star said, no longer feeling guilty about that.
"Go easy on him, he already learned his lesson and that was months ago. Besides, Hotep-Ra was the real bad guy in that incident and he was using Tucker..."Danny said.
Star sighed.
"Fine, but if Tucker ever makes me try and wash his feet again or anything similar like that...possible brainwashing or not, I am not responsible for whatever I end up doing to him afterwards..."Star said, making it clear that she won't be so forgiving if she ever goes through that again.
"So glad I'm not Tucker right now..."Danny thought as they kept trying to come up with ideas.
"How about going as characters from Space Wars?..."He suggested, but his girlfriend rejected the idea.
"Can't. I heard that Nathan and his buddies are going as the whole cast and if we do, people might think that we're with them..."Star said.
"How do you know that?..."Danny asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Valerie called me and complained that Nathan pretty much begged her to join them and asked her to dress up as Princess Ablingada...which she vehemently refused each time..."Star said.
"Nathan really has to learn that no means no..."Danny said, not impressed at all.
"No duh, the only reason that Val turned down my offer to use my dad to get a restraining order on him is because, annoying or not, she feels that Nathan is so pathetic, that he's not even worth that much effort..."Star said.
"Ouch..."Danny said, before they went back to figuring out their costumes.
"Okay, then how about we go as Frankenstein and his bride?..."The ghost suggested.
Star giggled as she decided to toy with him a bit.
"Are you asking me to marry you all of a sudden?..."Star asked in a teasing way, making him blush.
Danny flinched and cleared his throat.
"I...Uh...Huh?..."He stammered, looking nervous as his girlfriend couldn't resist teasing him like this.
"He's so cute when he's like this!~..."She thought before granting some mercy on him.
"I'm just kidding, Danny-Boo...and besides, we can't. I heard from Denise that she and Jason are going as that, and I don't wanna be a copy-cat..."Star said, referring to one of her fellow cheerleaders and her own boyfriend.
Danny, who calmed down a bit, tried to think again.
"Why don't we go as some fictional couple from TV? We did talk about cosplaying a while back?..."He suggested.
"You sure that you aren't just looking for an excuse for me to wear a really short orange skirt and bow, or a red wing, black top and cargo pants?..."Star said.
"Maybe..."Danny said, not denying it.
"As fun as that might be, I heard that Paige is dressing up as Kim Possible this year and Mia, Rebecca and their friends are all going as the Sailor scouts, including Sailor Venus..."Star said.
"Sailor guardians..."Danny corrected.
"Huh?..."Star asked.
"You called them "Sailor scouts". They are suppose to be called the "Sailor guardians". The term Sailor scout was an invention of the original English Dub..."He pointed out.
"I know… Habit..."Star said sheepishly.
"Anyway, does it really matter if two people wear the same thing to a costume party?..."Danny asked and his girlfriend raised a brow.
"Uh, yes it does. It's kind of bad for two people to dress as something that someone else said they're going as. It comes off as either embarrassing or just plain rude..."Star said, like she was talking about something as basic as washing your hands every day.
She may no longer be an A-lister and she is a genuinely sweet person, but Star has certain habits and beliefs that haven't been shaken off due to her upbringing, which includes trying to avoid wearing the same outfit as someone else at a party since that would make things awkward, even if it's a costume party.
The blonde girl tried to think of something else and thought of a classic costume idea.
"How about if I go as little red riding hood and you can dress up as the wolf..."Star suggested.
Danny was about to say something, but for some reason, felt a chill go down his spine and not because of his ghost sense. He even had a disturbed look on his face for some reason.
"What's wrong?..."Star asked in concern, wondering what came over him.
"I don't know why...but I rather not see you dress up as that..."He said, looking shaken for some reason.
"Why?..."Star asked, wondering what's up with him.
"I can't explain it...but for some reason...the idea of a blonde girl who is super into me dressing up liking that feels wrong. Super wrong! Like something I went through in a past life or a nightmare that I'd rather forget, even if I don't even remember it in the first place! It just doesn't sit well with me. Even worse than that "Pookie Bear" thing..."He said, still shuddering for some reason.
Star sent him a strange look but decided not to go with that idea if he feels this uncomfortable with it.
"Okay then...what do you suggest?..."She asked.
Once Danny calmed down, he tried to think about it.
"Why don't we cosplay some superhero couple...like Superman and Wonder Woman?..."Danny asked, since the man of steel is his favorite fictional superhero.
"Isn't Lois Lane suppose to be Superman's love interest?..."Star asked.
"Yeah, but they did have a thing once. I still kinda ship them..."Danny said, shrugging.
His girlfriend thought about it and shrugged.
"I dunno...I like the character but I don't feel comfortable since her outfit is practically a swimsuit..."Star pointed out.
Danny remembered his reasons for rejecting the mermaid costume and realized she's right.
"Oh yeah, never mind then..."He said, still not wanting his girlfriend wearing something so revealing in public.
"How about Spider-Man and Mary Jane?..." Danny asked, since that was his other favorite fictional superhero.
"Aww… I wanna be Black Cat… I could even be Ms. Marvel since they went out once..."Star said, since she liked those characters more.
"Original or the recent stretchy one?..."Danny asked.
"The first one..."Star said and her boyfriend thought about it before shaking his head.
"Oh… I would say yes but she wore what's basically a swimsuit too. As for Black Cat… I think that might be too adult for you...given how low her neck like tends to be..."He said, blushing a bit.
Star thought about it and realized his point.
"Right. I'm pretty sure that my Dad would kill me if I ever left the house dressing up like that, even if it is a costume..."She said, realizing that costume probably wouldn't sit well with him.
"I'm sure that you'd look great as any super heroine, but I'd rather you wouldn't dress up as something that might end up with you getting grounded until Christmas..."Danny said.
"I see your point. Plus, this does feel kinda silly since we are heroes, so dressing up as other heroes might feel weird..."Star said.
"By that logic, we may as well go as Danny Phantom and Starlight Spirit..."Danny said, being ironic.
Star giggled. She was about to say something, until she then got an idea.
"Wait..."Star said, as ideas formed in her mind. "I think I have an idea..."She said, smiling.
Danny blinked, wondering what was going on in her pretty head, before she told him her grand idea.
The next day
It was finally here.
Halloween!
The night for spooks, candy and mischief.
School had just ended and our favorite couple were busy getting ready.
After dealing with another "visit" from Johnny and Kitty wanting to cause mischief, Klemper's attempts to "befriend" them and the Lunch Lady trying to "serve treats", it was a long afternoon but they were now ready for the party.
"This is gonna be awesome!..."Star said as she put the finishing touches of her costume on.
Once done, she went to her boyfriend who was waiting for her in her living room. He was also wearing his costume too.
"I'm ready..."Star said.
"You look awesome, Starlight..."Danny said, smiling at her as she twirled around and struck a pose.
"Thanks, now we should go. I'm okay with being fashionably late but there is a limit to that..."Star said.
"Okay..."Danny said as they went outside.
"I also got a text from Sam and Tucker. They are on their way to the party now..."He said.
"Okay. Well, let's go..."She said as they headed out the door.
Soon, the happy couple were outside and saw the entire town decorated and light up for the spooky festivities. They saw that children were already wearing costumes and heading to houses and everyone is ready for a nice night.
"Time to go..."Danny said as he took Star by the hand, which she returned.
"Yeah..."She said, smiling.
The couple soon left, holding hands as they went to Michelle's house for her party, both unaware of what this spooky night has in store for them.
