Thank you to all my lovely reviewers. At least I'm not the only one who still loves Patrick and Teresa and the gang!

It was as Jane was unlocking his room that it dawned on him that he'd left just after a gunfight and the arrest of two potential murderers. He had no idea what condition the room would be in.

He needn't have worried. Obviously, the Blue Bird was a class act – as the room had already been cleaned and tidied. He couldn't tell that just a few hours ago dramatic events had taken place here.

"I love this hotel," Teresa yawned. "It would be nice to come back sometime for a vacation."

"Let's make it a vacation now," Jane suggested. "We're both on leave and we need some downtime." He walked to Teresa and took her hands in his. "We deserve some time together."

"That sounds nice," she smiled, "Except I do have to get back to Austen to fix things with my landlord and the moving company. Some guy I know messed up my plans to move."

"He did, did he," Jane smirked. "So, what are you going to do to this guy."

"Hmm," she murmured, leaning forward and resting her head on Jane's chest. He released her hands and put his arms around her, holding her close. "I guess – never let him go?"

"Sounds about right," he sighed, gently resting his head on hers.

The two of them stood there, simply holding one another, too tired and still too unsure as to what to do or say next. It was Teresa who finally lifted her head and looked up at Jane.

"I don't know about you, but I'm feeling grimy and exhausted and starving, and I don't know which need to address first."

Jane grinned, reached down and kissed her on her cute nose. "Why don't you go shower and change into something more comfortable," he waggled his eyebrows at her, but then continued. "While you're doing that, I'll order room service." He looked at his watch. "It's not even 8 o'clock yet, so they'll still be serving breakfast. After you're done, I'll shower and then we can eat and try and sleep for a few hours."

"Sounds heavenly," she said, stepping back and grabbing her small bag. As she headed to the bathroom she stopped and looked back at Jane. "You know, on second thought I can call my landlord and the moving company so why don't we spend a couple of days here," she suggested.

He nodded and smiled. "I like that idea."

As the bathroom door closed the smile faded and he closed his eyes and took slow, steady breaths. He needed to regain some equilibrium – and to get his heart to settle down. It felt like it was ready to launch itself out of his chest.

This happiness stuff was going to take a while to get used to.

When Teresa came out of the bathroom she was dressed in a large, oversized t-shirt. He received a rather nasty jolt for a second, wondering if it was one of Pike's. But then he saw that it was a University of Chicago t-shirt and he breathed a sigh of relief. He admitted to himself that it was going to take a while to get Pike out of his mind. He was going to have to find a deep, dark basement room – or maybe dungeon – in his memory palace to put the FBI agent.

His mind and eyes snapped back to Lisbon who, along with the t-shirt was wearing some rather skimpy flannel shorts. Jane had to force himself not to stare at the long line of naked leg showing. Obviously, these were her pajamas and, while they were in no way meant to be sexy or enticing, they were certainly having a strong effect on him.

Fortunately, he was someone who had years of being able to hide how he was feeling, so he simply nodded at Teresa and headed towards the bathroom, proud of his nonchalance. As he walked by her, however, he was pretty sure he caught a touch of disappointment on her face.

"I noticed," he said as he entered the bathroom. "I'm just trying really hard to be good." With that he shut the door, leaving a chuckling, but somewhat flushed Teresa behind.

By the time Jane was finished showering, their breakfast had arrived. The two of them were so hungry they simply sat together on the bed, totally unselfconscious as they wolfed down the huge breakfast Jane had ordered.

"Is there anything on the menu you didn't order?" Teresa asked between bites. "There is no way we can eat all of this."

He shrugged and reached for a croissant. "I wasn't sure what you wanted. And anyway – it's our vacation -"

" - which I'm going to start by gaining 10 lbs." she complained.

" – and a celebration," he continued.

"A celebration?" she smiled.

"Mmm hmm – we solved a five-year old murder." Teresa raised her eyebrows at his answer. He grinned and continued, "and more importantly - " he paused.

"Yes?"

"More importantly," he continued, "you stayed."

Teresa didn't know what to say. She suddenly felt like she wanted to cry. Uncomfortable with such intense emotions, she tried to joke. "Well, what could a girl do?" she asked. "I was much too embarrassed to stay on the plane."

"Is that the reason," he asked, semi-seriously.

Teresa realized, at that moment, that Jane was feeling unsure. He was so good at hiding his real feelings, but she had known him for enough years that she could tell he was nervous. He had to have gone through a rollercoaster of emotions over the past few days and probably still doubted her feelings for him, especially after she'd almost flown off to be with another man.

She set her plate on the night table and then took Jane's and set it aside as well. She moved over until she was kneeling in front of him on the bed. "No," she told him sincerely. "No matter how embarrassed I was, I wouldn't have stayed for that reason. I stayed because, after you left, I thought about what you'd said. Until that moment I hadn't been sure how I felt – I knew I hated the thought of leaving you but I didn't know I had a reason to stay – but your words made everything come into focus for me, they changed everything. I realized then that there was nothing I wanted more than to stay."

He gave her a shaky smile. "Thank you," he said softly. "It means more than you will ever know."

There was a deep silence in the room as the two on the bed thought about what it had taken to get them to this point. Abruptly Jane's face changed, and he let out a big yawn.

That broke their profound awareness of the moment and they both relaxed.

"Sleep!" proclaimed Lisbon, throwing her legs over the side of the bed. She picked up the remaining breakfast dishes and placed them on the coffee table.

"Yeah, sounds like a good idea to me too. I'll just put out the 'Do Not Disturb' sign so they don't – well, disturb us!"

A few minutes later the two of them were on the one bed, each of them stiff and unyielding on their own side of the bed.

Jane turned his head and glanced at Lisbon. As nervous and unsure as he felt, he knew he had to do something or else neither of them would get any sleep. Forcing himself to screw up his courage he moved, sliding over to Lisbon's side of the bed. He rolled onto to his side facing her. "I promise," he murmured, "no naughty stuff. I just want to hold you – if that's okay."

She let out a soft sigh, and with a smile turned into him, snuggling up against his warm body. She couldn't see his expression, but his arm came around her and he draped one leg over hers. "Very nice," she said. "You're cozy and warm."

"I try my best," me murmured in return. For the first time in years he felt safe, warm and loved. It was the best feeling in the world.

With that he closed his eyes and allowed the feel of Lisbon, close to his heart, to lull him to a restful sleep.
