RWBY: The Necrotic Rose: chapter 1 what are the odds
The rain fell down on to the forest floor, dripping off the pine trees in fat drops turning the ground a light liquid brown and trudging through it was four figures, all were raged their cloths tattered, their weapons scratched and nicked. They marched through the rain their leader stumbling every now and then.
"how much further?" one of the four asked wearily, her rabbit ears twitching with every drop landing on her head, matting her fur.
"at this rate we'll be at the village by morning" the leader growled as she adjusted her Bert and wiped off a pair of aviators. She moved a few steps along the forest before stumbling again.
"we might go faster if you wore something other then high knells" another of the four said as he shifted a curved great sword from one shoulder to the other, his large frame not helping him stay dry in the rain.
"Not happening" the leader said with a playful glare, a small smile on her face before turning back and wading through the ankle deep mud.
The last member of the four remained silent, his solid white eyes staring blankly as he adjusted a pair of headphones
they continued to wade through the forest slowly the trees seemingly unchanging. After roughly a hour and still no sign of the village.
"great, just great how can this get any-" before the leader could finish a loud crack and boom thundered as lightning stroke.
"REALLY COCO" the rabbit eared girl yelled with a indigent look of anger on her face.
" Coincidence, seriously Velvet even after a whole year with you I still don't know why you still believe that" Coco said with a arched eyebrow as lighting kept striking.
"maybe because it keeps happening?" the white eyed man asked rhetorically with a raised eyebrow.
"not now Fox" Coco said hunching over with a exasperated sigh.
They waded in silence after that the only sounds being the sloshing of mud and the crack of lighting over the rain
another hour and the team started to notice a change in the trees, browning pines, mushrooms growing in the branches and trunks, withering shrubs and a sickly stench in the air and aura of the place. the team tensed, on edge.
"Well shit looks like another Grimm nest, just our luck tonight ain't it" Coco said with a frown the last part in jest.
"y-yeah ugh maybe we-" velvet did not get to finish as a new voice spoke above them.
"well well, what are four kids like you doing out in the butt fuck of nowhere?" the voice asked condescendingly. They all looked up to see a figure standing on a branch in one of the larger trees, the figure was male and covered head to toe in patch work rags a rifle aimed at them.
"Now I don't know about you but I'd like to get out of the rain so how about you drop your weapons and come with us" the figure said as four others emerged form near by bushes and approached for a total of five. Two had rifle, one had a double barrel, the last had a sword and shield, all but sword and shield who was in full plate were wearing the patch work rags of the first.
"How about we kick your ass' and be on our way!" Coco said trying to keep the fear out of her voice. They should have sensed this guys from a mile away! The fact that non of them could be sensed a few meters away was worrying.
Coco looked around, they were in a clearing in ankle deep mud with a boulders scattered around, low on ammo, yellow aura and out numbered by bandits that could hide their aura, in short she didn't like their odds but there was no way in hell was she going to give up to some bandits.
"Fox you deal with the rifles, Yatsuh you deal with tree guy, me and Vel will go after shotie and mc knight" Coco ordered as soon as Fox connected them to his telepathy semblance, everyone gave a silent affirmative, they all sent a prayer to the brothers before leaping in to action.
Coco lunged at the shotgun wielding bandit, who pulled the trigger sending a shotgun blast to her face, Coco winced as the pellets scraped against her skin her aura now at orange, however she closed the two meter distance and grabbed the shotguns barrel yanking it down and to the side, she then lifted up her weapon a weighted hand bag and swung it at the bandit's head, once no flare of aura, twice the distinct snap of a jaw and no reaction from the bandit, thrice the bandit head snaps back before snapping forward and headbutting Coco, losing her grip with a firm pull.
The rest of the team was not fairing much better. Velvet put a picture in a box on her back and activated a switch, where a holographic copy of the armoured bandit's weapon manifested in her hands before having to duck as the armoured man charged her. swing block swing block swing block over and over, the armoured bandit blocked and swung with the grace of dancer despite the heavy armour, Velvet barley keeping pace a irregular rhythm guaranteeing hits sending Velvet aura to orange and what hits she did land bounced off ether his shield or his armour.
Fox ate two rifle shot sending him to orange before reaching the two riflemen. Taking a swing at each of their the chests with a bladed gauntlet the blades leaving behind clear deep cuts that unfazed the riflemen who reversed griped their rifles hand around the barrel and swung them like clubs forcing Fox to bloke and slash, each cut never seeming to bother them.
Yatsuh went for the tree the bandit was at, too high to strike with his sword so he struck the trees trunk burying half the sword in it, the bandit choose that moment to jump off the branch and land on Yatsuh's shoulders raping his leg around his neck, Yatsuh tried to pull his sword free but it won't budge so he grabbed the bandits legs and pried them slowly agonizingly slowly, black swimming in his vision.
"ENOUGH" a new feminine voice shouted with authority.
The bandits stopped and backed off. The team turned to the voice to see a figure standing on one of the boulders, then a crack of lighting illuminated the clearing revealing a rose red cloak splotches of darker red on it and a hood with two triangles on top that was a pit of pitch black with two glowing sickly green tinted silver eyes.
Most of the team did not know what to make of the new arrival but Velvet had wide eyes pupils dilated to pinpricks, her ears flat against the back of her head.
"my lady wha-" the armoured bandit began before the red figure glared at him making him stand up straighter.
"you are supposed to be further out I knew they were here already" the red figure motioned a gauntleted hand to the team.
"aww right wh-" Coco started before Velvet lunged at Coco putting hand over her mouth.
"We surrender!" Velvet said barely below a yell, fear clear in her voice and face as she unhooked the box on her back dropping it to the ground.
Coco shoved the hand off "Vel what th-" Coco stopped as Velvet's head snapped toward her.
"That's the Red Wolf you fucking lunatic" Velvet whisper shouted. Eyes snapping back to the red figure as she headed towards them seeming to float over the mud.
"fine lets play along" Coco said with a heavy sigh, eyes alight with recognition, looking at her other two team mates.
Slowly they put their weapons to the muddy ground some grimacing as they did, the Red Wolf waved her hand and their weapons started to fly over to her even Yatsuh's sword wrenched out of the tree before disappearing under her cloak.
"now thet that is taking care of lets get out of this rain" Red said in a monotone tone as she turned around and walked off. The bandits surrounding the team, with not much choice they followed.
The walk to wherever was agony, Velvet was shaking like leaf in a hurricane, Coco was rubbing her nose still aching from the headbutt the rest just looking around as they slowly moved by the forest. Then through the rain they saw a tower roughly three stories tall a light leaking through a window on the first floor.
Red let out a content sigh as she picked up the pace, forcing the team to follow suit. Once they reached the door to the tower Red puts her hand on the knob then flares her bruise purple aura, with a click and push she enters and beckons everyone else, they went inside to a cramped mud room.
"Wipe your feet. There is a bedroom on the third floor, bathroom on the second, you can rest here for the night and be sure to knock before leaving a floor" Red says as she lowers her hood to reveal a head of shoulder length scab red hair, two red black tipped fox ears on her head. She turns around to show a young crimson and cream furred face with a burn scar that consumes the left side of her face and a large claw scar on the right side
the team was shocked to realize that the Red Wolf was a 15 year old girl.
"tomorrow morning we will head to the village west. from there we part ways, does that sound fair?" Red asked with a head tilt, left ear dipped.
"I-y-yes" Coco said still reeling form the identity of remnants most infamous criminal.
The butcher of mistral, the living Grimm, the fangs angel, the red wolf... was a 15 year old girl!
"Okay good. if you need me I'm on first. Cole, George escort our gusts to the third floor" Red said looking at shotie and one of the riflemen who nodded before shooing the team to a door
the team entered a stairway wide enough to fit two average sized men shoulder to shoulder. They climbed it to the third floor careful not to slip, once they opened the door they are greeted by a queen sized bed with silk sheets and crutions, a fire place surrounded by a stuffed couch and two padded chairs, red and green wall paper with windows to small to climb out of.
"alright team I want us sleeping in shifts. I don't my kidneys stolen while I sleep" Coco said half joking half serous as soon as the door closed. everyone nodded before they all huddled near the fireplace. Coco stared at the fire as it dried the team, she turns her head to the side to see Velvet staring at the fire, her eyes half lidded and a frown on her face.
"Hey Vel you alright?" Coco asked worriedly while shifting to be beside her partner.
"Its not as scary...knowing shes a person like us" Velvet says in tiny voice turning to face Coco with tired eyes
Coco grimaced recalling a news article about how the Red Wolf burned down a whole district of mistral to escape the police "maybe not like us but its still jarring knowing she so young and did all that" Coco said as she looked at Velvet almost nodding off
"Get some sleep Vel. Yatsuh has first watch" Coco said gently as she guided Velvet to the bed.
"night Coco" Velvet said with a yawn before flopping on to the bed going out like a light.
"night Vel. Yatsuh wake us if you suspect any funny business" Coco say as she lays down on the couch and taking one last look around the room gaudy red and green wall paper flaking before closing her eyes as the pitter patter of the rain sang a lullaby.

"Do you think I made the right call bring them here Ed?" Ruby asked quietly as she stared at a glass ball on the desk she was sitting at displaying the bedroom before turning to face the armoured undead who was at a shelf organizing scrolls.
"That remains to be seen Lady Branwen. They're not of the Queens lot that's for sure, so that leaves ether hirelings of your mother or unfortunate souls" Ed said in a baritone as he put a scroll with intricate vomit inducing patterns on it to a pile of similar scrolls that radiated burning cold.
"of course" Ruby sighed as she stood up and started wandering the study, desks and shelf's scattered about, stopping at a mirror. She stared at the face that greeted her, scared and burned, green tinted silver eyes that looked dead inside.
"Is it still possible. For me to become a Hunter?" Ruby asked ears lowered, turning away from the mirror. Ed stiffed then let a sad sigh.
"even if it was possible I doubt that anyone would want one of your reputation to join their ranks" Ed walked over to Ruby weaving around desk to do so then gave her a one armed hug on arrival.
"You are already a Hunter in my eyes though" he said warmly. Getting a small smile form the Red Wolf who wriggled out of his embrace and headed for the desk she occupied prevacly.
"Yeah yeah I know" Ruby said as she sat down and started working on a unfinished scroll its patterns rolling in and out in impossible angles that brought noshia to the Red Wolf as she worked on it. Ed just watched between patrols of the tower. It continued like that for the rest of the night. by morning Ruby finished the scroll and put it in a case on her hip with others of its kind then headed to the bedroom to gather her gusts. Seeing the two of her solders at the door she smiles before giving a order to one of them who gave a knock that was more hammer fisting the door then a knock.
The door swung open and Ruby was faced with a irate Coco.
"its morning. Pack up your things and meet me outside" Ruby said firmly as she could with her monotone voice then went outside to wait, Ruby didn't have to wait long as the four left the tower a few minutes later.
"Okay before we leave I'm going to give you back your weapons. Don't shoot me in the back" Ruby said eyes glowing brighter for a moment at the end as she levitated the teams weapons to them. Velvet nodded her head so fast Ruby was worried that she was gonna break her neck. The rest just gave a single nod the Bert wearing one looking like she was about to say something before stopping and with that the undead took positions around the team as Ruby lead the way.
The sun was bright, the clouds parting to a blue sky and the muddy ground caking back to it regular state, in short it was a good time to travel. Team CFVY and the Red Wolf were walking through the forest, the trees of north western Vale fermilar to the Red Wolf as they marched to the village. As the trees past by steadily Ruby contemplated again if she made the right choice letting these four live, they might be spy's from her mother sent to gather where she was going next or the Queen got wise and sent assassins that knew how to do their job right, not like ether could do anything with her ace in the hole.
A rustle in a thicket of bushes and a growing sense of wrongness draws the attention of the group all drawing their weapons as the thicket shaked and withered, more and more before a massive black furred boneplated bear barrels through it, hate filled gaze focused solely on Ruby.
"Ursa major" Ruby said her fingers dancing with elccrectiy. The undead took the intuitive, the three riflemen firing at the grimm as Ed rushed over to Ruby placing himself between her and it shield raised, sword ready to stab.
The Ursa charged. Most of the rifle rounds bouncing off of its bone plating, the loud boom of a 12 gauge sounded off as Cole fired both barrels at once cracking the neck plates but not destroying them. The Grimm swung its massive paw beheading the undead before he can dodge.
"Brothers damn it Yatsuh!" Coco exclaimed before a vile sense of dread and wrongness that made all of CFVY want to vomit then curl up and cry.
"YOU BASTARD!" the monotone voice of Red cried out as she drawed upon the burning cold, her body was bathed in black and bruise purple lightning, with a flick of her wrist she sent a bolt of the dark lighting that struck the Ursa in the shoulder blowing a chunk off that rode the lighting trail to its caster before being adsorbed, cloak billowing in a unfeeling wind revealing a black tipped fox tail.
The Ursa reared up and letted out a roar of pain, the Red Wolf just bared her fangs then throw another dark bolt that struck the back of the Grimms throat severing its spin, the Grimm calalsped to the ground with a deep thud its form disintegrating into a black mist that congregated to the Red Wolf then disappeared under her cloak.
All was quit. The lighting and vile sensation was gone. The Red Wolf walked over to her fallen comrade and knelled over to loot his shotgun and ammo.
"It was a honour to have you Cole" Red said with another flick of her wrist finger like stones grasped the head and body dragging it under. With a sigh she put away the double barrel and ammo before standing up and turning around to see CFVY in varies states of shock.
"What in the Dark brothers hairy ass crack was that!" Coco asked her shock plain to hear.
The Red Wolf sighed. "Dust" she said, a half lie.
Coco moved as if to argue further but a kick to the shine and a fearful look from Velvet made her stop then headed the way they were going.
Ruby could feel the movement of aura as the four seemed to have a silent conversation, she argued with herself before deciding it was not her business.
After two hours of walking they came across a dirt trail marred by hooves and wagon tracks, they all knew the way to the village now. As they walked down the trail the team heard humming from the Red wolf, a tune they never heard before with Velvet hearing words amidst the humming.
"Down down comes the rain, seared by the flame, branches will loosen there hold, guided by grace ever led" Red sang softly, sadly, too quiet for a non faunus to hear. They travelled further down the dirt road, the only sound being the thud of boots hitting the ground and hummed tunes from Ruby.
Another two hours and a hill climb later they all see the village in a large man made clearing a hundred meters in any direction of the villages wooden walls. As they got closer Ruby can see movement in the guard towers and along the wall. She gave a silent command to her solders who holstered their weapons, Ed hesitant to do so.
As they got closer and closer Ruby could smell the fear and anger in the village. She grimaced, it seems the guards on watch recognized her. "I hope your a good talker cause those guards are gonna think your working for me" Ruby said as she readyed a spell. Coco stumbled catching her footing as she realized that she was about to enter a Village with a notorious criminal.
"I have a idea. Is it true that you can make people see thing?" Coco asked in a whisper making Red grin 'oh yeah almost forgot about that' Ruby thought drawing on the burning cold.
She raised her arms that seemed to suddenly be cuffed hands wrapped in to fists weapons missing, the rest of her undead being the same.
"Oh wow that's perfect!" Coco said in relief as they arrived at the village gate.
"Oui who goes there!" a guard yelled down at them from the wall before leaning over to see the red figure in their mist.
"Oh looks like they caught the Red Wolf, most impressive for a team of freashies" said a another guard impressed.
"lower the hood" the first said tensely. Coco obliged showing Red's face.
"Open the gate!" said the first after a moment of screwtny as the spiked wooden gate raised.
They walked through the gate, thatch roofed buildings and cobblestone streets on the over side, as they went further they were stopped by a squad of guards.
"Nice work, nice work indeed. We'll take this bitch off your hands and send you the reward money" the lead guard said as he reached to grab Red, a malishce look in his eye.
Coco slapped his hand away. "sorry to burst your bubble but she's coming with us" she said tensely as she pulled out her hunter ID
"Fine then" he said angerly, spitting in Red's face.
"keep a eye on this one, she's a slippery sort" another guard said giving hes leader a frown and a squint.
"We will" Coco said as she rushed her team and supposed captives away and to the motel they booked before this whole mess started.
As they got closer to the motel Red suddenly turned down a allyway, the rest of her men following.
"damn it not now!" coco exclaimed as she chased after them. The allyways twisted and turned at odd angles as she followed after them, down at a bend she turned it to see a dead end, Coco searched it to find nothing. A caw grabbed Coco's attention to the roof where four ravens stared at her before flapping their wings and taking off.

"they got away" Coco said with a dejected sigh and shake of her head as she returned to her team on the street.
"we are still telling Oz right?" Velvet asked nervously as she looked about with fearful eyes, biting her finger nails.
"of course we are! Can't have whatever That was loose" Coco said indigently shivering just thinking about that primaly vile sensation
"Then lets stop wasting daylight" Fox said impatiently as they headed for the motel, the rest quickly following suit. They walked in silence for a while all four occupied with their thoughts. after a few minutes they hear cries and shouts. They turn a corner to see faunus, some in red robes with silver flagrie and others with pendents of a rose with a downward arrow in its centre crowding a shop. They were holding signs of varies colateas and saying phrases, in short a protest. The team walked by was villagers Glared at the protesters.
"TAKE THIS YOU BLASPHEMOUS ANIMALS!" a younger villager shouted as she picked up a loose stone off the road and throw it at the protesters, suddenly a glass like purple barrier sprang to life deflecting the stone back at their assailant hitting her in the head causing her to cry out in pain and as if a flood gate was opened the rest of the villagers present started throwing whatever was on hand at the protesters, the result the same as the first.
Coco and Yatsuh moved between the Velvet and the conflict taking place, the last thing they see as they turn a bend was villagers charging the barrier smacking head first as if it was solid stone.
The cries and shouts got quieter and quieter as they got closer to the motel eventoly falling to silence when the motel came in to view. they entered the lobby a lone reshepaist looking up from a news paper as the bell rang. He glared at Velvet as CFVY walked past him, Velvet cringed under the glare as they walked to their room.
They entered their room, two double beds, a TV, a field radio that they brout with them from becane and a bathroom. Coco walked over to the radio and started dialing up Ozpin as the rest of CFVY rested on the beds an floor after a couple seconds of ringing they heard the Headmasters voice crackle out of the speaker
"Ah CFVY what do i owe the pleasure. Mission going well?" Ozpin asked calmly.
"Oz that's the emergency line!" another more feminine voice said over the radio with clear frustration.
"right right. So what is the situation?" Ozpin asked in a more serious tone.
"We had a run in with the Red Wolf" Coco said carefully deciding against saying anything incriminating, looking at her team to make sure that they are on the same page.
"Oh dear are any of you injured?" Ozpin asked, concern seeping in to his voice.
"No. We were out of her sight when we saw her" Coco said sweating bullets trying to not let out that they not only rested with a notorious criminal but also that they let her escape.
"Her?" Ozpin asked neutrally.
"we heard her talking to some underlings" Coco said looking at her team for help.
"Did you get a look at her. any identifiers?" the other voice asked testily.
" Yes. Fox faunus Scab red hair, burn scar that consumes the left side of her face and a claw scar on the right, green tinted silver eyes-" Coco listed off before being interrupted.
"SILVER!. You sure?" Ozpin demanded more then asked.
"uh yeah?" Coco said confused by the Headmasters turn of tone, it seemed a mix of gity and panicked.
"Change of mission, find the Red Wolf and stay with her until I arrive" Ozpin said with a seriousness the team have rarely heard before hanging up.
For a long moment that was a minute but felt like hours there was silence as the team stood still.
"well... shit" Coco said with a enthfinnaus on the swear then headed for the door out side.
"come on team. We should find Red If we don't want our ass' mounted on Oz's wall" she continued as she grabbed ammo from a crate next to the door.

Ruby let a sigh as she watched some of the villagers smash against the barrier the Faunus had set up before the protest.
"why can't people just leave each other alone?" she asked hunching over, her form shimmering like polished clear glass.
"it gives them a sense of control, that they are not completely at the mercy of whims unforeseen" Ed growled out, his form in a similar state to Red's.
"would it kill them to direct that energy to something more productive, like mines or, farming or better defences instead of this" Ruby said gesturing to the fighting down below.
"their blinded by fear and hate. They are surrounded by bandits, Grimm and us, so they look for something to blame" Ed said as he carefully shifted as to not disturb the thatch of the roof.
"how many is that now 30? 40?" Ruby asked changing the subject as she looked the Faunus in robes and pendents.
"seems like it. They have been restless without their champion" Ed said cooly as they got up and started moving from roof top to roof top silent as a ghost.
"Don't remind me. I just hope Adam was and is able to rein in the more zealous of them" Ruby said with a groan as they headed to a shop that she knew would deal with her.
"one can only hope Lady Branwen" Ed said as they got closer, the shop in sight, they went to and over it landing in a dirty ally behind the shop, Ruby looked around, not seeing anyone she turns to a door set in the wall of the shops back and knocks in a rhythm she done countless times.
The door opened, the wolf greeted by a red headed 7 year old donkey Faunus with a rose pendent in baggy clothes. "Hello ms Wolf what do you need?" she asked cheerfully, moving the door to let the wolf in.
"just the usual today lily and where are your parents?" Ruby asked as Ed closed the door behind them.
"Mommy's upstairs packing and Daddy;s doing something on his scroll" lily said as she led the Wolf and knight to the store proper.
"Going somewhere I take it" Ruby says as she picks up varies plants, roots, leaves, berrys and and flowers off of shelves and tables, putting them in labelled bags.
"Yep. We're going to Vale" Lily chirps as she goes the register, "that will be 100 lien ms Wolf" she says when Ruby finishes gathering plants.
"that's quite the discount. Do Mommy and Daddy Know?" Ruby asked as she fished out the lien.
"we're having a moving away discount" Lily chirped with a smile as she took the lien and put it in the register then headed to the stairs at the back. "have a nice day Ms Wolf, mister knight" Lily said as she climbed the stairs.
"we will" Ruby says as she leaves through the back door.
"where to now?" Ed asked softly as they climbed the wall to the roof.
"we pick up the guys then we head out" Ruby said as they hoped from roof top to roof top once more.
"their end of service is today" Ed said with melancholy.
"yeah" Ruby said softly, sadly as they approached the west gate. Looking down she sees members of the Hunter team she shortly travelled with moving about looking for something. She frowned before speeding up to the gate. There standing at the gate in funeral attire was her solders each in fresh bandages, just a few more meters.
Suddenly a bell and gun shots went off.
"BEOWOLVES!. GRIMM AT THE WEST GATE!. GRIMM AT THE WEST!" a guard shouted from a watch tower recing of fear, the towns folk screaming as they moved to and frow. Ruby growled grabbing Ed, her form exploding in a blast of refractles and rose petals before reforming on the watch tower roof.
Six Beowolves were charging down the village, shots from the guards bouncing off bone plate or barley penetrating the pitch like hide of the Grimm. Ruby cursed Before drawing on the burning cold in her head, reaching out and grabbing hold of something that was not spouse to be there that did not belong there, a axe of purple glass appeared in her hand, its weight heavy but light at the same time. She pulled out a vial then drank from it, her body taking a bark like texture as purple glass plate mail encased it. She put away the vial, she channelled aura and burning cold in to her legs.
And leaped.
She launched in to the air, a ball of glass shards and rose petal rising before falling like a meteor, purple glass catching the sunlight in to rays that scotched the ground, one bisecting a beowolf. Falling, falling lighting gathering until she landed in a blast disintegrating the grass and three beowolves. The two left scitered to a Holt, a pause then One of the two remaining lunged at her, a swing of the a axe now bathed in purple black flames severed one of its arms the remains gathering around her as she slammed the butt end of the axe in to it's chest, a ear splitting boom that shook the windows of every building in the village and made everyone at the gates ears ring, The Grimm a black smear on the burned ground, she turned to the last one its plate more prompnt, its eyes filled with hate and fear.
Ruby looked at it with dead eyes as she lifted a hand in the air, a green glow taking the form of a arrow, she throw it like a javelin, striking it in the chest and it screamed its whales almost human as it was struck by the arrow the green substance eating it from the inside out, its whales dying down as it fell to the ground dissolved.
Ruby's ears perked up as the second of silence was broken as a bullhead aircraft quickly flew over to her, the side opening as a figure jumped out at 18 and a half meters in the air, aura flaring around his legs as he landed.
"Hello I am professor Ozpin" a smile on his face. he did not so much as flinch when a lighting bolt missed him by a inch
"what do you want?" Ruby asked, lighting dancing across her body as Ed got between her and the old smelling stranger who's smile grew.
"I'm also the headmaster of beacon and have some sway over the king of Vale" Ozpin said excitedly as the bullhead landed and a green eyed blonde, holding a riding crop stepped on to the scorched earth.
"Again what do you want?" Ruby asked wishing she could sound annoyed, carefully looking at the two veteran Hunters.
