Chapter 5 - Many a New Day/Dream Sequence
Scene: In front of Laurie's house. Judd drives to pick her up for the dance. Laurie is sleeping on the front porch.
Judd: Wake up!
Laurie: Hi, Judd.
Judd: Are you ready to go to the dance?
Laurie: I guess so.
Judd: You looked like you were having a nightmare.
Laurie: No, just worried.
Judd: Why?
Laurie: People treat you like dirt. They don't understand the real you. I think you are royalty.
Judd: Thank you. I don't get complimented often.
Laurie: I am here to help you and I know exactly what you need. I've been watching television from the Coasts about people getting treated poorly. I know exactly what you need. It will fix the problem.
Judd: OK, what is that?
Laurie: Gender reassignment surgery.
Judd: Huh?!
Laurie: Yes, all of the bullying is related to certain EEO conditions. You are not a racial, religious, or ethnic minority. Also, even if you were, the town would not treat you badly for that reason. I know the people in this town.
Judd: No, I don't see that in this town.
Laurie: You are obviously trans. You throw like a girl, you hit like a girl. You should be a girl.
Judd: Well, my father keeps asking if me I am gay, but I am not.
Laurie: That's strange. You don't have the type of body that a female would find attractive.
Judd: Why did you agree to go out with me. You said I was royalty.
Laurie: I view as a queen. You would have been a great role model on for this town. You could have gone to the either coast and been very successful. You are nothing but a joke.
Judd: I don't like being beat up, doped up, locked up, or chopped up. You are not doing me any favors. It is just not right for me. I was actually going to kiss you, but I gather you don't want it.
Laurie: Of course, not. Curly was right. You are creep. You should kill yourself. You will never amount to anything. Keep away from me.
Laurie grabs the keys in Judd's hand, runs to his car, and drives away as fast as possible.
