Jamie stood in front of the long mirror in the corner of their bedroom and attempted to tie his tie. He was due to meet with Lieutenant Fleming in an hour at 1PP. He only knew so much about a Field Intelligence Sergeant from the details he was given and was a little more nervous than he liked to admit, especially since this new position was given to him less than a week ago.
He sighed in frustration as his hands fumbled with the tie.
"Damn it," he whispered as he shook his hands out and tried again.
"Need some help?" he suddenly heard.
He looked up to see Eddie in the mirror behind him, leaning against the doorway of the bedroom.
"You clean up nice, Sergeant Reagan," she said suggestively, giving him a wink once they locked eyes in the mirror.
"Oh yeah?" he responded, letting out a small chuckle as some of tension left him. "Thanks."
She walked up and turned him around. Then, she grabbed the two ends of the tie and went to tying it with ease.
"You know, there is actually a few perks for me with this new job of yours," she said after a minute.
He arched a brow at her, "What perks?"
"Seeing you in a suit everyday will be great for me. And for Officer Garber too, especially with the way she's always staring at you every time she passes your office. I might have to have to fight her off you if she sees you in this."
"Oh geez," he responded with an eye roll. "Officer Garber doesn't have a crush on me, Ed. At least not anymore. I'm sure she'd be scared as hell to try anything with you around. You probably traumatized her the time that you caught her staring at me."
"I didn't say anything to her!" she exclaimed.
"Yeah but the look you gave her said enough," he laughed.
Eddie simply shrugged and flashed a small smile at him.
"Your meeting with Lieutenant Fleming will go just fine," she said encouragingly, patting his chest once she finished with his tie. "I know that you're nervous about it. I stood at the door for a few minutes watching you fight with the tie. This was all sudden, but you will do great, Jamie. I know you will. Anything you do, you always give it 110%."
He couldn't help but press a quick kiss to the side of her head, "Thanks Ed. I'm nervous but I'm looking forward to seeing what this is truly all about."
"I'm excited for you."
Suddenly, Jamie stopped and winced as he placed a hand on the bottom of his abdomen. His hands clenched as he took a few deep breaths.
"Spasms?" she asked gently, putting a hand over his.
He nodded, "Yeah."
She stroked his hand comfortingly. Even though the shooting happened over a month ago, it was still fresh for her any time Jamie was shirtless and she would have a view of the surgery scar of where they had to cut him open to remove the bullet. If she was being honest, she was going to be forever scarred from that day.
The love of her life was almost taken from her and it was the most terrifying thing she's ever been through. She would never admit it, at least not yet, that she's had quite a few distressing dreams since that day. They would make her wake up in a cold sweat in the middle of the night and frantically look over at Jamie to make sure that he was okay. As usual, he would be sleeping soundly next to her.
Jamie didn't know that these dreams were happening and she didn't plan on telling him anytime soon. He needed to focus on himself and his recovery. She knew that she needed to process everything that happened herself before she felt comfortable talking about it.
"Is it better now?" Eddie asked.
Jamie nodded, his face clearly more relaxed. "It's better."
"Good."
He looked at the time on his watch, "I should get going." He reached for his suit jacket on the bed and slipped it on. "So, what are you going to do while I'm gone?"
"Nothing much," she responded, taking a seat on the bed in front of him. "I'll probably clean up around here."
"I was thinking that maybe you could meet me for an early dinner at Fratelli's if you're up for it," he suggested.
"After almost four years of marriage, I would think that you would know that I will always be up for eating at Fratelli's."
"Noted," he chuckled.
Then, he went around the bedroom gathering his phone, wallet, and other belongings as Eddie watched. Since the shooting, she's counted her lucky stars time and time again. Seeing him just being able to walk was a blessing, especially since there was the possibility that he could've been paralyzed. According to the surgeon, if the bullet would've gone just half a millimeter deeper, Jamie would've been paralyzed from the waist down in an instant. The thought of it still makes her emotional.
She's positive that someone was watching out for him that day, more specifically, the in-laws that she never got to meet.
"Well, I'm out of here," Jamie said, breaking her out of her thoughts when he appeared in front of her. He leaned over and pressed a kiss to her lips. "I love you."
She smiled up at him, "I love you too. Good luck."
