After the fight, everyone was tired, so they decided to go home and rest. Davis was in his pajamas, ready for a nap, but when he laid down in his bed, he couldn't sleep. He was happy about his illusion, but he still felt that it somehow wasn't right.
I saw TK's face. He was really upset, like he was really broken. But, when Veemon told me my friends were in trouble, I left the lllusion immediately without a second thought. Do I really like her…?
"Uhh… I'm not good at these human things, but maybe you should think about why you like Hikari.", the cute Digimon replied
Davis thought long and hard.
"Hmm… She's cute, nice, and…. cute?
"That's all you got, buddy?"
He flopped his head on his pillow with a dull thud, and sighed.
"Well, I know whenever Ken goes on and on about Yolei, he has much more specific reasons… Tell you what, we'll go to his house tomorrow and you can see Wormmon!"
"Yay! Going to see my buddy!", he sang to himself
"Alright, goofy, let's get some rest!"
Davis got off the elevator and was walking down the hallway to his buddy Ken Ichijouji's house, with Demiveemon in his arms, particularly antsy.
Daisuke knocked on the door, and a brown-haired lady answered the door.
"Hello Daisuke, hello cutie!", she said, patting the blue Digimon's head, causing him to smile
"Hey Mrs. Ichijouji! Is Ken home?", he asked
"He sure is, he's in his room,'' she told him. " Come on in. Ken, honey! Your friend Davis iis here!", she called out to her son.
Within a few seconds, Ken came out of his room, Wormmon on his shoulder, and, to his surprise, gave him a hug. He stepped back, and blushed, thinking he had made his friend uncomfortable.
"Hey Ken! You really missed me, huh."
"Hello Davis, hi Demiveemon. Yeah, I just wanted to make sure you are ok after the battle."
"That's really nice of you Ken, I'm good, are you?"
"Yeah. By the way, thanks for saving us. You were really brave", the black haired boy said.
Davis put his hand on his neck, flattered.
"It was nothing. Anyway, want to go to your room?"
"Sure. Let's go."
"My illusion was about Kari. She had told me she liked me, and we were about to, you know, kiss, then Veemon told me it wasn't real, and that everyone might be in trouble, then I snapped out of it.", the spiky haired boy said.
"Hmm… interesting..", Ken, in his normal smart fashion, said. His expressions and tone of voice showed that he was in deep thought
"But later, I realized that something felt off, you know? Demiveemon helped me realize that my feelings for her may be shallow… What do you think?"
"Hmm… before I can come to a conclusion… I'll need you to tell me exactly what you like about her."
"Well, she's cute and she's nice, that is about it."
"I think you may be putting her on a pedestal.
"Whaa?..", Davis said in shock
"When you first start to like someone, you are attracted to their superficial qualities, such as their looks and obvious personality traits."
"Hmm… makes sense…", he replied
"Kari isn't shy per se, but she is timid and reserved. You fell in love with the Kari that is happy and cheerful. But, she isn't always like that."
"Huh? How'd ya know that?"
"Do you remember when me, Yolei, and Kari went missing when we were looking for Gatomon's tail ring?"
"Yeah…"
"We didn't go missing. We were sucked into the dark ocean. When we saw the ocean, me and Kari both flipped out. But, she was able to snap out of it, though I wasn't much help. Point is, she has a secret insecure side, and she's really good at hiding it."
"Wow… I never knew that. I'm such a terrible friend for not helping her!"
"No, you're not. I didn't either, so we're in the same boat. But, I know for a fact that if you had, you would have dropped everything and ran to her rescue."
"Yeah… I guess…
"And, you did the same for me, even when I was your enemy. You accepted me and met me where I was, and helped me through my trauma."
"Well, it was the right thing to do! I couldn't just leave you there, all alone and miserable."
"That's just who you are, Davis. You may be air-headed and stubborn, but your friends mean everything to you. You are kind and would help anyone in need and give them a helping hand.
"Ken…"
Tai sure did pick the right person to pass the goggles onto."
Davis leaned over and warmly embraced Ken But, this time, he didn't tense up
"Thank you, Ken."
"No problem", he replied, his arms still tightly around his friend.
They let go and he paused and thought a minute
"Hey, wanna go play some video games?"
"Sure, buddy."
