IMPORTANT AUTHOR'S NOTE! If you haven't read Sand and Light, this probally won't make sense. It's a little Vash POV afterthought to that fic, and has a couple of mild spoilers for it. Well, one big one, but nothing that will really ruin the story for you. You can find Sand and Light at: 'http://www.geocities.com/sholio/'. Go read it, because it's worth it!

It's funny how your life can change in an instant. A single look, or a chance word, can make all the difference in the world.

I have chased after Knives across the surface of this planet of the course of several lifetimes. The last time I caught up to him, it was like facing a stranger. Yes, we fought, but it was more than just a simple gunfight. It was more to determine who was right. I think losing that fight was what caused him to retreat for six years. I spent that time watching over him, wondering if I had done the right thing. I wanted him to wake up and talk to me, but I also dreaded it. Could I keep him from hurting anyone else? Would I be able to convince him that his path of destruction was not only dangerous to humanity, but himself as well? Those questions have haunted me as I watched and waited.

Then, he disappeared again.

I think it was Milly's presence that kept me in reality, thought I half think she wanted to strangle me at times. But all I could think of at the time was that the cycle of destruction and horror was going to began again. And it would be my fault for not keeping an eye on him. He might succed in his quest to destroy humanity, and I could only blame myself. I had to find him again, and maybe I could prevent another massacre. Even though other things kept happening to turn me away from my search, that was always in my mind.

Then, I finally caught up to him and looked in his eyes.

And he was my brother again.

The cold killer that had stranded the SEEDS ships on this planet, that had cause the destruction of July and countless other horrors was gone. Those familiar blue eyes were filled with a warmth and life that I hadn't seen since we were very young.

It was all I could do to not break down, to not run over and embrace him.

The danger we were in, the panic of our sisters, even the fact that Wolfwood had somehow survived, all of that faded into the background for that instant, and I somehow understood that everything would work out alright.

It was probably a silly attitude, but I knew it had to come out alright because I had my brother back.

I wasn't alone anymore.
