Revised Author Notes: I'm going through and fixing some tiny things. That's
it for now, below is the original A/N.
A/N: This is a very short fic about how Masami felt when she heard the news of what happened to her dear friend. Some things may have changed, so bare with me here. ^^; *SPOILERS ABOUND FOR THE FOURTH DVD*
Disclaimer: I do not own Generator Gawl, unfortunately. The story and its characters belong to their rightful owner. (Who it is I'm not certain.)
Good-Bye, Dear Friend
Masami's head was spinning. She was only dimly aware of the two young men standing before her, sad looks upon their faces.
"Generators? The FUTURE? Please tell me you're kidding," Masami eyes darted from Ryo to Koji wildly.
Ryo shook his head. "We're dead serious."
"But . . . how . . ." Masami suddenly remembered something else. "Wait a minute . . . where'd Natsume go?"
The tension between the threesome grew thicker and thicker. It was like the plot of a novel, only once it reached the climax it stayed there and hovered over them.
Koji handed her a small, pink envelope, its top torn open. "This will clear things up." His voice was soft.
With shaking hands, she pulled a piece of paper out, and began to read. A few sentences seemed to stand out to her.
'When I saw Gawl transformed, I was then told the truth. And from then on . . . I have been betraying you.'
'Masami has been through many disappointments in her life. And I'm afraid I just add to that sad list.'
'I was a Janus, hiding one face from you and showing my false self to the world.'
'Maybe when Ryuko Saito finds out what I did, she may even feel a sense of sadness.'
' . . .and please, tell Masami what a good friend she was too me!'
Those were Natsume's final words.
Masami was cold all over. "This can't be, what does this mean?!" She crumpled the letter into a ball, clenching it tightly in her fist. She sank to her knees, hiding her face with her trembling hands.
The letter. Masami could feel Natsume's anguish radiating from it. Why?! Why hadn't she told her about this? She would have helped! She would have! Why?! Natsume never hurt anyone! She didn't deserve this! Why her?! Why?
Masami felt something warm stream down her cheeks. Something warm and salty. Tears? She hadn't cried for so long. She had forgotten the sensation.
A sob escaped her lips. Her best friend in the world was gone, ripped from her.
She could have helped . . .
She would have helped . . .
Ryo knelt down eye-level with her, and had her in a tight embrace. She wept on his shoulder, wetting the white fabric of his shirt.
Good-bye, Natsume.
And somewhere, in the deep breeches of her mind, she heard a melody, a synthetic yet haunting melody . . .
