A Movement and a Glance
I sat there, watching her movements, as if they could not be duplicated. She moved like a swan. Starting out clumsy and growing in grace as she went on. She resembled a swan too. Her long delicate neck, topped with a main of such shining hair. Hair that flowed like feathers.
Surely there was no other creature like her. She was enchanting in her movements, her attitude, and her pure innocence of her surroundings. Oh the spell she cast on me. If only she knew. if only I could tell her.
But I can't. Not yet. Not ever. As enchanting as she is. her heart belongs to another. He can't even see it. The way she steals a glance at his turned back, or the way she smiles as he compliments her. The pure adoration in her eyes whenever he accomplishes a task as simple as cooking a meal. If only such a simple task of mine could extract the same reaction. There's the way he acts. calmly being her best friend whenever she needs him there for her... Pulling her away from me when I feel I finally have a chance. She's not the only one who steals glances. Whenever she turns her back, he watches her intently, calmly, and protectively. He's a lion who has claimed his mate. Although, as protective as he is, he won't take her for himself. He works to keep other males away, and his swan as innocent as the purelydriven snow. No one is to touch her, even he himself.
It drives me crazy to watch the game they play. He compliments her. She smiles. He stares at her so adoringly it sickens me. As soon as he turns away and speaks, she glances up at him with love in her heaven-sent eyes. If only she would look at me that way. I would pay the Gods with my life to receive just one look like that. But I will never get one. At least not from her. A heart already claimed is one less heart to be won. And I've lost. Lost in a race I never had a chance in.
